‘Combat Outpost Shocker:’ The base that could spark Iran conflict
by David Edwards and Muriel Kane

The US military is building a base in Iraq just five miles from the border with Iran to prevent cross-border arms smuggling. The base, called “Combat Outpost Shocker,” will be manned by 200 soldiers, along with agents from the US Border Patrol, and will monitor truck traffic and cellphone conversations among Shi’ite pilgrims.

“Obviously, [the Iranians] probably won’t be very happy about it,” Col. Mark Mueller, the commander of the border transition team, told ABC News.

  1. I read about this “outpost” a couple of days ago.

It seems to me this administration is hell-bent on a military confrontation with Iran.

The only questions that remain are the magnitude of the attack that is being planned, and the timeline.

But all the moves are so eerily reminiscent of the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. Call it “the Iraq playbook”.

  2. Correction:

I meant to say “But all the moves are so eerily reminiscent of the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, there is very little doubt in my mind military action against Iran is inevitable.”

    There. Much better.

  3. Combat Outpost “Shocker?”

Is that a hint that this base will serve as launching point for a surprise “rear entry” into Iran while they’re being distracted by a frontal penetration from the Persian Gulf?

“US Border Patrol”? Wait a minute. The US Border Patrol is not simply a“Border Patrol” that’s operated by the “US”; it’s the“Patrol” of the “US Border”!

And guess where the money for Homeland Security is being piped. Yeah, you got it. Also to Iraq. Bush GOP is using every trick on the book to fund Iraq’s (and other future targets) war.

Exactly. When I did read the new, my first tought was “it’s an offesive base, not a deffensive one”.

  5. Toasterhead, Thanks for handling the “shocker” issue as I didn’t want to get stuck with it being the juvenile I am. Did you see the high school whose entire yearbook was littered with “shockers”?

  6. Heh. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if that yearbook was the one my youngest son worked on in highschool. ;)

  7. They could have been a tad classier but I still love it when the kids best the adults.

No problem! Juvenile humor is my specialty :D
