One Week? in Iraq?
How in heaven’s name can anyone say no to that? I don’t care what side of the ailse - to deny our children medical care is medieval.
Reason #1579 why I hate GWB.
Really, I just can’t stand the sight of him.

Hi Zooey. It is a less than 1 minute spot on the SCHIP program and Bush’s veto. It is about a toddler, running on the beach, by the name of Bethany who needed a heart surgery at 3 months old. Because of the SCHIP program she is alive today. Her parents couldn’t pay for it, the government did (SCHIP). Of course she is cute and adorable. Then the words “SCHIP keeps her healthy today. Bethany’s parents know SCHIP works. Why doesn’t George Bush? (Photo of GW) Healthcare for 800,000 children like Bethany costs… one week in Iraq. Which one do you value more?” Switch to video of Bethany, cute with curly ringlets and all, holding paper she was coloring that reads “Don’t VETO me!”.

Thanks, muse.
800,000 kids or war.
Hard decision — for the fucking cons.

Wow. That is a powerful ad.

Actually, I don’t think it’s hard for them at all.
They will choose war anytime, of course.
Helping the needy doesn’t build fortunes. Selling weapons, and starting wars to control natural resources, on the other hand, do help. Ask any Bush crony.

The thing I don’t get, Gregor, is that the troll-type people aren’t making the big bucks off this war, so why support it — other than simply being bloodthirsty.
October 16, 2007 at 2:06 am
Zooey,
In my experience, people like that support policies that don’t benefit them because of 1) blind political allegiance, 2) emotional ties to a father figure (usually comes hand in hand with #1), 3) wishful thinking that they, too, can get to be rich and wealthy, 4) loath to upset the status quo for fear of the unknown.
There might be other reasons, but these are the ones I can recall running into. It’s actually a little awkward to try to talk sense into people like that; they get very defensive.

And yes, in this case, some people are just blood-thirsty. After all, it’s only brown people dying.
October 16, 2007 at 2:12 am
Oh. Well, in that case….

Maybe I should have included the “/sarc off ” tag or something like that at the end of my previous post…

No Gregor, I was being sarcastic as well.
