Our reader and commenter RemoveBush has made us aware of this story:
WASHINGTON — The Lakota Indians, who gave the world legendary warriors Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, have withdrawn from treaties with the United States.
“We are no longer citizens of the United States of America and all those who live in the five-state area that encompasses our country are free to join us,” long-time Indian rights activist Russell Means said.
A delegation of Lakota leaders has delivered a message to the State Department, and said they were unilaterally withdrawing from treaties they signed with the federal government of the U.S., some of them more than 150 years old.
The group also visited the Bolivian, Chilean, South African and Venezuelan embassies, and would continue on their diplomatic mission and take it overseas in the coming weeks and months.
Lakota country includes parts of the states of Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.
The new country would issue its own passports and driving licences, and living there would be tax-free – provided residents renounce their U.S. citizenship, Mr Means said.

OMG – a free country on this continent. It might be worth a consideration. So does that mean that Bush and Cheney are going to invade the Lakota Nation?

CDWF, this is definitely interesting and a good find by RemoveBush. If nothing else it sends a powerful signal.
(btw. I’d move there, but I would not have the US citizenship to lose)

I wish they’d included part of Washington state in their new country. Sounds like a good place to start life over in a free nation.

Good thing someone reads Fox News. Not sure this story is covered anywhere else.

Let’s see, maybe the Leni Lenape can reclaim their land in Pennsylvania. Hey, they can take back my homestead as long as I can live on their reservation.

I envision BushCo totally dismissing this, and laughing it off.
I’m very proud today. Even though no one would ever tell by looking at me, I’m 1/16 Lakota.

Actually I found this story on Raw Story, and only linked the source not Raw Story.
This is certainly an interresting story and I will be waiting to see just what happens.
One poster on TP just stated that these “leaders” were not the “leaders” of the tribe nation. I wonder how this person knows this? They don’t say who the “leaders” actually were.
Since TP has banned me for less than what the trolls there do, I can’t post and don’t think I would want to anymore anyways.
December 20, 2007 at 12:27 pm
RemoveBush – TP banned you from posting? That sucks. And yet they allow the trolls to post whatever they want.
Thanks for sharing this story.

Coffins Draped with Flags
Apparently, TP really hates FACTS.
When you present them and it counters what they say, you get banned.
Basically this started from the Siebel Edmonds posts a while back…..
I started this by making a comment in the thread about Siebel Edmonds, which was still connected to the thread, and from there all the other facts just made TP look bad.
My guess is from that they decided I should not be allowed to make them look bad anymore.
Hell……. You even had Brad, from the Brad Blog, telling them that Siebel Edmonds was more than just 9/11….

I guess I have to do something to be banned by TP. Looks like this would be a Medal of Honour these days. Don’t worry RemoveBush, I’m glad you’re here.

Zooey, there is an independent spirit in you, I have seen that for a while. Good pedigree
December 20, 2007 at 12:47 pm
Thanks europeanview, it’s always better being someplace that you are wanted than someplace you are not.
If they don’t want to utilize my knowledge and research capability to enhance their threads, that’s no sweat off my back…..

RB, I’m over there only rarely. I have not so very much time to blog and, although I like a good fight with a troll occasionally, I rather spend quality time here. I don’t even get much information from TP they are not so very unbiased. Today they called themselves “progressive” rather than “center left” in a thread and I burst out laughing. In my view they don’t merit the “left” in “center left”.

Zooey what’s your Lakota name? Chief Crazy as a Loon?
December 20, 2007 at 1:05 pm

Here is another good one….

Bush, Maliki Break Iraqi Law to Renew U.N. Mandate for Occupation
On Tuesday, the Bush administration and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki pushed a resolution through the U.N. Security Council extending the mandate that provides legal cover for foreign troops to operate in Iraq for another year.
The move violated both the Iraqi constitution and a law passed earlier this year by the Iraqi parliament — the only body directly elected by all those purple-finger-waving Iraqis in 2005 — and it defied the will of around 80 percent of the Iraqi population.

That again was posted on Raw Story…
