Bush Tops ‘Most Admired’ Poll?

USAToday reveals the results of a new Gallup poll indicating that George W. Bush is the most admired man on planet Earth. Tempering these impressive results is the fact that the pollsters questioned only 1011 people, of which only 10% chose Bush. It is implicit, but not stated, that Gallup polled only Bush family and cronies, and members of the House of Saud.

Interestingly, the USAToday headline is factually wrong. The article indicates that Bush was actually third on the list overall, beaten by Hillary Clinton (18%) and Oprah Winfrey (16%). Perhaps the editors of USAToday are trying to puff up George Bush for political reasons, or perhaps they are presenting an intentionally provocative headline in order to sell “news”, or perhaps they consider women to be of a secondary class. Who knows?

  • The headline “Bush Tops ‘Most Admired’ Poll” is an ironic reversal of the headline from ten years ago: “Clinton’s Most Admired Pole Tops Bush”.

gorn - funny. A right wingnut posted a comment about this poll over on TP yesterday. All I can say is “Consider the source”. Nobody really buys USA Today. It’s a newspaper designed specifically for traveling business people. Ha! :)

The men: Bush, 10%; former president Clinton, 8%; former vice president Al Gore, 6%; Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, 5%; evangelist Billy Graham and former South African president Nelson Mandela, both 3%.

Gallup says each number has a margin of error of +/-3 percentage points. The national telephone survey of 1,011 adults was conducted Dec. 14-16.

    That means it really could be, Clinton - 11%, Gore - 9%, Obama - 8%, Bush - 7%.

At any rate, Hillary scored nearly twice as much as Herr Bush.
