Shirley Chisholm was the first African-American woman to serve in Congress. She was elected in 1968 and served 7 years. In 1972, Shirley earned 151 delegates at the Democratic Convention that year as the first woman to run for President.

I remember Shirley Chisholm’s run in 1972. She was an amazing woman.

Yes, Shirley was. I thought it would be appropriate to mention her because we have both a woman and an African-American campaigning for president. Even though I don’t agree with all their policies, votes and plans, I feel proud that our nation has come this far. It took too long. Maybe there was a “good” side to Bush’s presidency. Maybe the boy Bush made our nation wake-up and smell the coffee.
