For a little dose of reality..

Did I see today that Germany is erecting monuments to Gypsies and homosexuals (and maybe even some homosexual gypsies). If so, it is really heartening to see a nation assume some reasonability for its actions even if they are only symbolic.

My theory is that Ronald Reagan was popular because he appealed to stupid people. That’s not to say that everyone who liked Regan was stupid (though they would have to demonstrate to me on a case-by-case basis that they aren’t), but only that stupid people really liked him. Why? Because his inane platitudes delivered in that aw shucks folksy manner really went over well with people too stupid to recognize when they were being lied to. People who can actually simultaneously believe two diametrically opposing ideas found wisdom in the ridiculous things he said. And his tough talk against the Soviet Union (the “Evil Empire”) found support amongst those who believe (stupidly, IMHO) that violence was the best way to solve disputes.
If there’s one thing the right wing needs to understand, it’s this: Ronald Reagan is dead, and he should never be brought back again.
