Raw Story:

A House Judiciary Committee deadline passed Monday with former White House adviser Karl Rove standing by his refusal to testify about allegations that he pushed the Justice Department to prosecute former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman.

In his latest offer to settle the matter, Rove sent the panel a letter offering to respond to questions in writing, according to his attorney. But he reiterated that he would not testify publicly and under oath.

Committee leaders did not immediately answer questions about how they will respond. Earlier this month, they threatened to subpoena Rove if he did not agree to appear voluntarily by Monday.

The dispute is the latest in a standoff between President Bush and Congress over testimony from current and former White House staffers on a variety of issues.

Hmmmm. Seems he’s now singing a different tune… What a liar - and a coward.

On April 7th, 2008, Rove’s attorney said he would agree to testify if subpoenaed by Congress. I wonder what changed his mind..? Perhaps the fact that Don Siegelman is out of prison awaiting an appeal - and talking?

Will Karl Rove stall over the course of the next six months in hopes of receiving his very own “get out of jail free” card (more likely “keep out of jail” card) from the president?

  • This is exactly the situation that Inherent Contempt was designed to address.
    Whip it out, Congress!

    And pardon the T ….

  • I thought for a moment you were taking up Golf, RUCerious…LOL…A hug to Amber for me…..Blessings

  • Since when does someone get to pick and choose when, if, or how they testify? Hmmm
Did I miss the amendment to the Constitution that says depending on who you are, laws of our nation can be ignored? How much money do I have to steal to be in the club? How many people do I need to keep down? How many wars do I need to start before the immune to United States law kicks in?
Congress can pass all the laws they want, but if they refuse to enforce those laws, the law-breaking will only intensify. Only the laws these people break have national if not global impact.
I am tired of the letter writing and polite inquiry. It is past time to get tough with these mobsters.

  • Nice post bd. I’d like to get one o’ them get out of testifying free cards that Rover seems to have tucked away… That’d be nice. Fukking asshole.

  • The first Zoo link appears to point right back at this post, rather than any earlier posts about Siegelman.

  • Thanks gummitch. Fixed it.

    Gotta run. See ya.

  • I didn’t post this RUCerious, Muse did. =) I just added my fired up comments. lol And yes, it is a great post. Thanks Muse.

  • Isn’t the common agreement that Rove should not be prosecuted for any crime until Bush has left office? Those nasty pardons can reverse the immediate gain.

  • Walt’s right. In fact, as much as we all despise the principles of the Imperial Presidency for which all of these fucking bastards stand, we all know that there is no way in hell that Bush is going to let Rove serve a minute of jail time. I doubt he would even get indicted. Bush will issue him a full pardon, and Rove will lie and accept it. I say “lie” because you have to admit your guilt when accepting a pardon, and as long as the Wilsons still have a chance to sue him in civil court, he does not want any evidence that he is guilty of anything out there to be used in civil suits. He’ll accept it, then he’ll refuse to cooperate. Because he sucks.

  • WAS,
If KKKRove was assigned the death penalty, W would go for it with relish. No pardon, W loves to see people die.
