Well, its Friday and I am still fuming about what our so-called president did on Thursday.. So..

Here is an open letter to George Bush from Larisa Alexandrovna on Huffington Post:

All the President’s Nazis (real and imagined): An Open Letter to Bush

Dear Mr. Bush,

Your speech on the Knesset floor today was not only a disgrace; it was nothing short of treachery. Worse still, your exploitation of the Holocaust in a country carved out of the wounds of that very crime, in order to strike a low blow at American citizens whose politics differs from your own is unforgivable and unpardonable. Let me remind you, Mr. Bush, of your words today:

“Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along,” Bush said at Israel’s 60th anniversary celebration in Jerusalem.
“We have heard this foolish delusion before,” Bush said in remarks to Israel’s parliament, the Knesset. “As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: ‘Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.’ We have an obligation to call this what it is — the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.”

Well Mr. Bush, the only thing this comment lacked was a mirror and some historical facts. You want to discuss the crimes of Nazis against my family and millions of other families in Europe during World War II? Let me revive a favorite phrase of yours: Bring. It. On!

Brent Budowsky weighed on this as well, as did Senator Joe Biden.

Jamie Rubin (formally of the State Department in the Clinton Administration) writes an interesting op-ed piece for the Washington Post on John McCain’s statements yesterday on Hamas and Barack Obama on the heels of Bush’s “speech”. It seems he is once again demonstrating his ability to flip flop and be the hypocrite. The op-ed is called “Hypocrisy on Hamas -McCain Was for Talking Before He Was Against It”. TPM has the actual video of McCain’s 2006 statements on Hamas.

In another flip flop, McCain is now predicting the Iraq War will be over by 2013. What, is this a timetable Mr. McCain? Didn’t you previously slam your Republican opponents for their hinting at a timetable? DO I smell desperation?

Oil tops $127 a barrel. (I can’t believe I am typing this).

California Supreme Court overturns gay marriage ban

After five years of war, the House of Representatives finally voted down a war funding bill on Thursday afternoon, while simultaneously passing a provision to set a timeline for withdrawal from Iraq.

At first glance, it seems like a shocking triumph for the antiwar movement.

The catch? The “triumph” was engineered by House Republicans, most of whom voted “present” on the funding bill, which would have provided $168.4 billion for operations for Iraq and Afghanistan. If the Republicans had voted for the funding, as they usually do, the 85 Democrats who voted “yea” would’ve easily tipped the boat in the war funds’ favor.

Catch number two? The “no” vote won’t affect policy toward Iraq: Funding will still be delivered, and the withdrawal provision is slated to die in the Senate, as similar provisions have done consistently over the past several years.

Bizarre.. Why don’t the Republicans want to support our troops?

Tom Englehardt wrote an interesting piece on Common Dreams: Kiss American Security Goodbye - 15 Numbers That Add Up to an Age of Insecurity. Interesting numbers for sure..

And Naomi Klein wrote a piece called “China’s All-Seeing Eye” that should send shivers down your spine..

With the help of U.S. defense contractors, China is building the prototype for a high-tech police state. It is ready for export.

There was an interesting piece on AlterNet dealing with the astounding rise in cases of Alzheimers. America’s Frightening Alzheimer’s Epidemic:

By 2030, one in four adults over 65 will have Alzheimer’s. This unforgiving brain damage can cripple patients, families and the economy.

And now for the blues..

Bill Clinton plays the blues.. (Bet you didn’t see that one coming..)
