I was driving over the Marquam (I-5) Bridge about 3:30 this afternoon and saw an enormous crowd at Waterfront Park. “What the hell is that?” I muttered to myself. Not Cinco de Mayo, too late. Not the Rose Festival, too early. It was packed. WTF?
75,000 people turned out to hear Barack Obama speak, in the last days before the Oregon primary votes are counted. 75,000?!
Charlie Burr, over at BlueOregon, has the story along with a video.

Holy shit! I was watching this speech earlier — it was almost identical to the speech he gave in Sioux Falls — but CNN never panned the crowd. They mentioned something about 50,000 people. Wow, has he ever drawn a crowd like that before?
I wonder if the men were in the crowd?

I don’t know if they’ve been that big but remember Hillary was accusing him of being all talk and demeaning him for having these big rallies. Well it helped her almost catch up. He shouldn’t have let her dictate the rules. And he better remember that against McCrazy.

I thought people showed up at these rallies on their own? I don’t know how he could control the numbers who show up. He seemed a little flabbergasted about the size of the crowd today. Hillary must really be desperate to demean him that way — his crowds are too big? Silliness.

Wow! Look at the second photo down:

It’s pretty safe to say he’s going to win Oregon. That second picture is frightening really. I’m not sure he’s going to need Hillary’s vote. It’s like all the pundits are fighting the last war/election. It seems like there are so many new voters that don’t get polled that will come out to vote. I think that will be enhanced if they ever start talking about McCain’s follies in the media.
Obama stopped having the rallies and instead met with smaller groups, I suspect because of Hillary’s complaints that he had no substance.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could get those kinds of crowds to gather to protest the war and this administration?

Hi – you may want to add this link to the sidebar:

The DNC just created it. It cannot be edited by the public.

But was he wearing a lapel pin???
May 19, 2008 at 11:50 am
If we did muse the media wouldn’t cover it anyway. There may be big protests for all we know. The media didn’t really cover this huge rally, the blogs did.

No toasterhead, he wasn’t, and when the crowd saw that they all left before he could talk.
May 19, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Fuck Hillary! She gave a speech saying Obama wins states like Alaska & Idaho — as if there’s something bad about that.
What the hell is wrong with her? We do get the teevee in AK & ID now. Bitch…

Hi Zooey. How’s your mom doing?
Yeah, this morning Hillary said Obama should act like there is a nominee already..
http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Clinton_to_Obama_Not_so_fast_0519.html
Is she on drugs or something..? A head injury we don’t know about..?
May 19, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Yep she’s back to talking tough about how she’s electable and he’s not. So much for softening her rhetoric.
May 19, 2008 at 12:33 pm
Yeah, he’d rather just act like he has way more delegates than her, and talk to huge, mondo crowds — not piddly little 1200 supporters. Damn, he must be miserable.
Mom is doing better. We’re staying in this new motel, and I think the “new smell” of everything got to her. She seems fine now, except for being super tired. She wants to continue the trip! We’ll see…

Warren Buffett just announced he is backing OBama..

Senator Byrd just announced he is endorsing Obama too.

They’re going to start coming out of the woodwork now. Hillary will have to be shamed out of this race.
May 19, 2008 at 1:00 pm
She’s trotted out her Kentucky accent…
May 19, 2008 at 1:08 pm
I almost said the exact same thing about the accent Zooey but then I thought maybe I was imagining it since I expect the worst from her at this point.
May 19, 2008 at 1:09 pm
I’m guessing Warren Buffett isn’t going to be one of those $25 donors.
May 19, 2008 at 1:11 pm
All day McCain has been bitching about Obama saying he’d talk to Iran. Somebody tell him to stop beating that horse, puhlease.
May 19, 2008 at 1:14 pm
I think I notice it more because I rarely ever hear her speak — I’m usually reading what she says.
Now she’s turning on the media — as if the media is in charge of choosing delegates. She sure luvs the media when things are going her way…

Obama is having a rally in Montana, I think, and they said there’s more people there than live in the town.
May 19, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Well, that’s really not all that hard in Montana.
I’m heading back to the hospital. Hope I see ya later.

That photo would make a neat die-cut picture puzzle. Almost as good as TRoS in a snowstorm.
May 19, 2008 at 3:36 pm
It would be easy to see TRoS in a snowstorm. There’d be crumbs and empty food containers all over the place. I’d hate to see what he’s doing to the craft food service table.
