First there was Wikipedia, the on-line encyclopedia which can be edited by viewers. Now we have “McCain-pedia”. The new on-line source for information about John McCain. This on-line “pedia” cannot be edited by the public.

It is run and managed by the DNC Communications, Research and Internet teams.

  • Kreeeist! Where’d you get that picture!? Please, replace it with a picture of Abu Ghraib torture or something mellower than this snarling old trollopyc*ntofahusband!

  • I love that picture, he looks just like the Grinch. In fact, I find it a little more endearing than he truly is.

  • It’s the real McCain :)

  • I was checking Google News for some more thoughts on the election, and happened to come across “Obamapedia.” I was immediately impressed; the first article I read was a comprehensive review of his experience, and it was a little rough around the edges and a little biased in favor, opening with Newt Gingrich’s rebuttal to his lack thereof, but an informative read nonetheless. But even as a strong Obama supporter, there’s something wrong about having creating an “Obamapedia” (with the suffix of course referencing Wikipedia, which can not only be edited and contributed to, but which follows specific guidelines regarding integrity and attempts a lack of bias) that appears to be fairly clean and open to user additions, and then having the DNC manufacture a McCain-pedia which can not only NOT be edited, but is created by the very people who oppose its campaign. Granted, the DNC announces its presence in a few places across the introductory page, in the top, middle, and bottom modestly, but in the meat of McCain-pedia, these little notices draw almost no attention, leaving those seeking information potentially unaware of the source.

And really, I hope that isn’t the case. I hope that we’re smart enough to at least mildly investigate the sources of our information. It’s important to recognize, even if the sources favor our points, when that source is created more to sway than to inform.

Several “pedias” have been created by those enthusiastic enough compile information, and it’s been a blessing for the internet. But the DNC and McCain-pedia seems to be taking advantage of younger audiences’ vulnerability to the seemingly encyclopedia-esq nature of “pedias.” While I know Obama’s campaign needs to put up its dukes in the coming months, this roundabout way of getting to younger voters dissapoints me a bit. A real McCain-pedia, open to editing and user-manufactured balance, would be a much more worthy counterpart to Obamapedia.

  • Poor Johnny McCain trying to destroy the whole country to get elected. Spare us coryjames. If you’re looking for people to defend the lying cheating crook that is John McCain you’ve come to the wrong place.
