I am posting this because yesterday on HardBall With Chris Matthews, [ultra]Conservative pundit Pat Buchanan made the statement that the “Antiwar Candidate in wartime has never won a presidential election”…
(Buchanan’s statement is halfway through this video)

I beg to differ..

Vote for PEACE!” “Its time for CHANGE!” “Its time for all good Americans to come to the aid of their country!

Barack Obama? No, this was Republican candidate Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952. In a time of war (Korea), Eisenhower won the presidency on a message of peace, of ending the war, and on a message of “change”.

  • A Republican running on “peace” and the “economy?”

    Say it ain’t so!! :D

  • That is so cool.

It should be sent to Olbermann so that brain dead Americans can see that the “liberals are weak” cry is nothing but a lame-assed excuse for their jingoistic attitudes.

  • Z,
It was so. By the time he left office, the annual deficit had vanished and we were at peace with most of the World. Industry was humming along and gas was 19 cents per gallon. You could also buy a Buick Road Master for about $2600. I got my Special for about $1600 in 1957 (It was a 1956 leftover.)

  • I baught my first car a used 1956 TBird with port window’s in 1959 for $1,700. it had 40 thousand mile’s on it and gas was fluctuating from .16 to .19 cent’s a gallon…I beat every corvette off the line that year and never spent more than $4.00 a week for gas…Sure liked that car…..Blessings

  • I apologize.. I forgot to put the first part of this post up (now added) that puts this post in context. Its up now.

  • Sorry – OT

Did anyone else know that Harvey Korman died?
I used to love when Tim Conway would crack him up during a skit on the Carol Burnett Show.

  • This is a great post muse. You should email a link to Keith.

  • How does one email anything to him Shayne? I would do it..

  • Great idea, Shayne!

  • Great post, muse! MSNBC is now touting a new website for his show, http://www.countdown.msnbc.com is the URL (I think). He also has something he calls TheNewsHole, but I can never remember the link. You may also consider e-mailing it to the particular show on which he said it, so that they may have a chance to “correct the record.”

Was Pat in his little “dog house”? (That part of his house from which he appears to be doing so many of his appearances.)

  • Hover your cursor over the link in my previous comment and look at the “key words” that (I’m guessing) will get you to that site. One of them will stand out. Catch you later.

  • I looked around muse but Wayne as usual seems to have the answer.

  • Shayne, your Rev Pflegler has done a boo boo, and made dumb jokes in Obama’s church. Fox is going nuts with it.

    Time to re-run your post?

  • Are you watching “So you think you can dance?”

Shame on you young lady? Oh no, are you actually watching Fox News? :(

  • Well he’s Catholic, they’re not even Christian are they?

  • No, it was on Dan Abrams or Keith — can’t remember which. :)

  • They don’t realize he’s being funny. He’s not even close to southern. How do we rerun it?

  • I could tell he was being funny, but you know these wingnuts.

I think you can change the date and time stamp. Mention something in the post about it being a re-run.

  • Are they going to accuse Obama of being Catholic now? Then all he has left is Jewish, and Buddhist. Oh, I forgot Scientologist and a couple of others.

  • Mormon! Christian Scientist! Shinto!

  • Hare Krishna and B’Hai.

  • He’s definitely a Jehovah’s Witness.

  • Maybe he’s a “Moonie”?

  • Damn, why didn’t I think of that?

  • He’s a Zoroastrian!

  • I thought Antonio Banderas was Zorro. Is he running for president too?

  • Couldn’t hurt…

  • I don’t think Banderos was born in the USA…

  • McCain is Panamanian. :D

  • I think Obama will come out as the first presidential candidate who believes in the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

That’ll teach people to unconstitutionally ask a candidate about his religious beiefs. :)

Sorry, gotta go. TDS is on.

  • If they’re cute enough does it matter muse. I bet Italy would let George Clooney run for president. Zooey, stop swooning! :)

  • I will admit it.. Zoro is one of my favorite movies. I LOVE Banderas. He’s hot..

  • And he can sing..

  • I would definitely move to Italy then.

  • Banderas is good, as long as I can avoid thinking about who he’s married to. Ick.

  • You got that right..

  • Can you imagine listening to that voice every single day?

I’d stick an ice pick in my ears.

  • I am guessing you are referring to the wife.. I could listen to his voice all day (and night) long..

  • Yes he is muse. And he’s short. I find it enchanting that he sticks by her side.

  • My daughter thinks he’s a god because of Evita.

  • Another fine quality…

  • I’m still watching MSNBC. Geez, Republicans are harsh.. (and cold and nasty, etc……..) Did I mention just flat mean? Brutal?

  • I didn’t see Evita. I’ll have to rent it.

I love everything he does. The one movie I hated was “Original Sin” with Angelina Jolie. Gross…

  • I watched the David Gregory thing earlier. I can’t stand him anymore. Not since the MC Rove thing. He’s very defensive over the Scotty book.

  • Wasn’t David Gregory on stage with Rove when Rove did that REALLY STUPID MC Rove bit?

I have never been able to stomach Gregory, but I am just watching all these shows tonight watching the reactions and how they intend to spin this..

    And I love Rachel Maddow…

  • Yes, that’s why I can’t stand him. That’s a massive conflict of interest — although not unusual these days.

  • I liked a Banderas movie where he was a knight or something. At first he was kind of a coward, but then he grew into a hero over the course of the film. It didn’t get great ratings. 13th Knight? Something like that.

  • I’m falling asleep – better take advantage of that.

    Goodnight, all!

  • Zooey, the title might have been “The 13th Warrior”, or something like that, but it was based on Michael Crichton’s “Eaters of the Dead”, which in turn was based on “Beowulf”. A friend dared him to modernize the Middle English (or whatever) classic.

    Good night, all.

  • Night Wayne (and Jane) :-)
