Nuking Iran’s Nukes

Wow!

In case you missed it, let’s reiterate Kucinich’s words:

  • Fallout from our nuking their nukes would spread out over Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
  • Within 48 hours, an estimated 2.6 million people will die.
  • More than 10.5 million people would be exposed to significant amounts of radiation.

Think of that next time McCain decides to cavalierly sing Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran.

  • There he goes, trying to introduce common sense into Bush World.

These are dangerous times, and Dennis looks as weary as the rest of us — but we have to keep fighting.

  • I suppose that BushCo don’t really give two shits because those millions of people are all them thar brown icky people.

    Maybe Mexico will be next.

    These people are crazy!

  • Briseadh na Faire

I wonder, is oil from Iraq and Kuwait being checked for radioactivity? (DU is all over the place over there.)

  • Now that’s an interesting thought.

If DU hits the oil and the oil is burned in our cars, would that put DU in the air everywhere? Would refining do anything?

I never thought of that before.

  • This is what I found on that BFN: “According to an Army spokeswoman who spoke on condition of anonymity, no estimate of DU exposures in the 2003 Iraq war is available, but DU was used only during the invasion phase when the Iraqis were using tanks. Therefore, the U.S. Army believes exposures to be few in number and low-level.”

“The Army spokeswoman says the government is tracking 70 Gulf War veterans who still carry DU shrapnel. “They have no ill effects from the shrapnel that came from DU rounds.” These men have fathered 35 children and so far everyone is well.

The biggest problem in Iraq is unreliable electricity supplies in Iraq have caused sewage treatment equipment to stop working, sending raw sewage and industrial waste directly into the Tigris River, Baghdad’s only source of water, as well as other bodies of water. Which in turn has caused 5,640 cases of typhoid in Iraq in 2004.

The US has the largest DU Inventory in the world 480,000 tonnes as of 2002, then Russia is next with 460,000 tonnes.

Can’t find any info about the refining process; if it acts like a filter or if they check it for contamination of any kind.

Have a good day everyone and happy 4th of July :)

  • The refining process is a distillation process and any (if any) DU would sink into the dross from the process. That part is used in paving (Asphalt).

  • Thanks Walt, I couldn’t find anything out about that. But the fact that the US has so many tonnes of DU was frightening. That I didn’t know til I did the research.
