Former White House spokesman Tony Snow has lost his battle with cancer. He died aged 53 early Saturday. No matter how much I may have disagreed with the kind of policies he gave voice to, my thoughts are with his family.
George W. Bush and Dana Perino for the White House said:
“The Snow family has lost a beloved husband and father. And America has lost a devoted public servant and a man of character,” the president said in a statement.
“It was a joy to watch Tony at the podium each day.”
Snow’s successor, White House press secretary Dana Perino, said, “The White House is so deeply saddened by this loss. He was a great friend and colleague and a fantastic press secretary. And his dear family is in our thoughts and prayers.”
May he rest in peace.

I agree Europeanview. I never agreed with his politics but this is sad news.
My sympathies go out to his family.

I do not rejoice in any man’s death, but I will not weep for this one. They say you should not speak ill of the dead. Well, by the same token, you should not lie your ass off about them saying glowing things that are not true, either. And when the things you say in praise of the dead are so obviously untrue, then it just makes your sentiments that much less sincere.
Tony Snow had a job to do for the Bush Administration, and that job was to make sure that the media only reported what the White House wanted reported. And the last thing the White House wanted out out there, in almost every instance, was the full truth. If it truly was “a joy to watch Tony at the podium each day,” that could only be because he was doing his job of misleading the public. Not simply steering the press away from an angle on a story that would be unflattering to them, but actively steering the press away from the truths that would expose the administration for the congential liars they are. And all to continue to support a war that should never have been waged in the first place. (Mr. Snow’s other employer, Rupert Murdoch, was guilty of the same thing.)
Tony Snow is going to get a lot of praise this weekend. Furthermore, it would come as no surprise to me if Fox News Channel decides that Tony should get more coverage than Tim Russert got when he, too, passed away at too early an age. Although I probably won’t turn my TV on this morning, I’m sure they’re running big tributes. It will be interesting to see how FNC’s competitor’s handle this. Tim Russert was well-respected by both sides of the aisle in DC. I do not believe Tony Snow earned the same reputation as Russert.
My condolences to his family, and I am sorry they lost their father and husband. But when it comes to his jobs and the things he did for his country, I have no praise to give him. He played an important part in continuing to cover up the crimes of this administration. Even if he deliberately kept himself away from the actual truth just so he could truthfully say, from time to time, “I don’t know,” he should not have acted like it was impossible that Bush was lying. He wasn’t working for Bush when the Iraq War started, but he was still cheering it on from his job at FNC. And for that, he should never be forgiven.
I have to go now. Our monthly protest march is about to start. I’ll drop by later.

I am sorry, I cannot feign sympathy for this evil man or his family. I am sure his wife is a pyscho and his kids will grow up to be domestic enemies just like dad.
I can’t feel anymore sympathy for Tony Snow than I would for Joseph Gobbels.
I say thank God there is one less NeoCon trying to destroy my country this morning.

Just for the record: Goebbels and his wife poisoned their six children before they committed suicide. They knew Goebbels had disgraced himself and his name completely and expected their children’s lives to be tainted forever. They deprived them of the opportunity to grow up and have lives of their own, maybe growing up to be good people. Nobody will know and they never had a chance to do so. The pictures of these little ones lying on the floor, dead, still sends shivers up my spine. His last heinous crime.

Well, as a fellow flutist, I did appreciate his flute playing.

He was a lying sack of shit, but he died a horrible death and in so doing he paid his dues. His part of the universe is now back in balance, so I can say without hesitation, RIP.
