I found the AWOL bees!

They’re all at MY house! In my lavender hedge! There are HUNDREDS (if not thousands) of them.. The lavender was CRAWLING with the flying critters. Nobody will walk on our side of the street any more…

What’s Happening to the Bees?

Colony Collapse Disorder

Silence of the Bees (PBS)

Not a terribly good video, but I took it with my digital camera, and it was my first try (and my first upload to YouTube)…
Except for the wind chimes, you can hear the low level steady buzzing of these creatures.

  • About 20 years ago, we found more then a few bees. A timber guy came along an offered to cut down a Black Cherry tree in our back forty for free. I called our ag agent and found that the wood from the tree could be worth about $65K. I got $40K and paid off the mortgage. The hive inside the tree rendered it worthless as timber. The timber guy left it as firewood.

  • Quite a story Walt.

I plant lots of flowers, shrubs and trees that bloom at different times just to keep food available for the bees.

  • I try to plant lots, too. The one time I tried to plant a pumpkin plant, it didn’t get germinated. We also have no mosquitoes in our area at all. And we have a pond. Seems like they might be related, no?

  • Wow, that’s a nice video, muse.

I love bees, and we won’t survive without them.
