GOP Is Dumping McCain – “He Has Turned Into A Troll”

There are some who feel that McCain can turn this disaster around in 30 days. I had to laugh at that quote, because the election is in 23 days. The GOP must be so upset they have forgotten basic math skills. This is from a NYT’s article on Sunday.

“The main thing he needs to do,” said Vin Weber, a former Republican congressman from Minnesota, “is focus on a single message – a single, concise or clear-cut message, and stick with that over the next 30 days, regardless of what happens. He’s had a lot of attack lines. But it’s time to choose.”

Republicans are coming out left and right making their displeasure known about McCain.  My suggestion to McCain this morning, don’t read any newspapers.  A former Republican Governor not very happy with McCain speaks out.

Tommy Thompson, a Republican who is a former governor of Wisconsin, said it would be difficult for Mr. McCain to win in his state but not impossible, particularly if he campaigned in conservative Democratic parts of the state. Asked if he was happy with Mr. McCain’s campaign, Mr. Thompson replied, “No,” and he added, “I don’t know who is.”

Gail Collins from The New York Times op-ed is wishing for “Dear Old Golden Dog Days.” The whole op-ed is a great read. Here is her wish list and her view of McCain.

Remember how we used to joke about John McCain looking like an old guy yelling at kids to get off his lawn? It’s only in retrospect that we can see that the keep-off-the-grass period was the McCain campaign’s golden era. Now, he’s beginning to act like one of those movie characters who steals the wrong ring and turns into a troll.

The Republican campaign strategy now involves sending their candidates to areas where everybody is a die-hard McCain supporter already. Then they yell about Obama until the crowd is so frenzied people start making threats. The rest of the country is supposed to watch and conclude that this would be an enjoyable way to spend the next four years.

Maybe the Republicans should have picked somebody else. I miss Mitt Romney. Sure, he was sort of smarmy. But when Mitt was around, the banks had money and Iceland was solvent. And, of course, when we got bored, we could always talk about how he drove to Canada with his Irish setter strapped to the car roof.

Now the Florida Republicans blame McCain for them trailing in the polls. They can not run away fast enough from his campaign. One even ditched a McCain rally to go to Disney World. I’m sorry but that is pretty bad when a Republican Governor puts Mickey Mouse before supporting the Republican nominee. Now that’s funny.

”When I have time to help, I’ll try to do that,” Crist said last week, after he flew around the state with McCain running mate Sarah Palin. Saturday, he skipped a McCain football rally and instead went to Disney World.

”This effort lacks coordination and a cooperative spirit and it’s showing,” Stone said. “But it’s more than mechanics. The campaign has no consistent message.”

The economy, an unpopular president, a strong opponent, and the inability of John McCain to reverse poll numbers despite repeatedly revising his strategy has top state Republicans looking for someone to blame.

McCain brought this on himself by running the most negative campaign in our history.   He has completely ruined the true conservative platform.  McCain should have considered the consequences of his actions – he has taken so many wrong turns in this campaign, there is no way to redeem himself at this point.   I have to agree with Gail, his POW campaign strategy, was much better than the path he chose to go down.

  • Excelent post once again Freedom…Thank you for posting here…

Once again I am reminded of what happen’s to evil negative people over a long period of time…The average, well thinking person’s not only get’s tired of the negative person but indeed can’t stand to be around them at all…A bully, preacher, troll or hate speech person is ignored and end’s up choking on their own hateful word’s..

I will be happy the day all people come together with peaceful solution’s to all our problem’s instead of using lie’s and hate speech to inflate their own ego’s…

I choose a win for the democrat’s and hope they once again won’t betray or disappoint us…..Blessings

  • Good to see you Witch1, I hope you had a wonderful birthday.

I couldn’t agree more. It would be nice to see people unite for the common good of mankind. Hate only begets hate. Sad road for anyone to travel down.

That is true that the average person is very tired of the negativity surrounding many campaign’s now a days. It would be nice for once, to see just the issues discussed and leave the rest behind.

Politicians don’t take into account how much this divides the nation. They need to find more common ground to agree on. That would be a great start.

Hopefully witch1, this election will weed out alot of the deadwood in Congress. I don’t want to be disappointed either. Have a good day :)

  • The Republicans are just scapegoating McCain. They picked him. They don’t blame W and Cheney or forbid Saint Ronny for starting the deregulation debacle. Don’t blame congress members in the pocket of big business. Don’t blame people like the last governor of Illinois who is sitting in jail. McCain is the only reason they’re losing control. Yeesh.

  • Back at ya Freedom. I posted a quick note on my huge birthday bash on the cake site..It was great, still resting up..LOL..Blessings

  • You write: “Now the Florida Republicans blame McCain for them trailing in the polls. They can not run away fast enough from his campaign.”

Most would call the above an observation of irony but given the larger picture it is waaayy beyond ironic, viz:.

Republicans picked Bush as their savior from the awful blight of Clinton’s political and economic successes.
After two terms of maximum Republican-ism (or -osity?) the Repubs have had to run away from their erstwhile favorite son.
Now, they have to run away from their adopted son, McCain, who is also so old that he also serves as their adopted father/grandfather, a la Reagan. Except that McCain isn’t avuncular, nor is he ‘folksy’.
Furthermore they can’t turn to Bush’s VP as they did to Reagan’s on account of Cheney being about as popular as Genghis Khan.
So they end up by default with a candidate that who is incapable of making any Republican faction like him any more than they dislike him.

Replacing the Worst President Ever (tm-Bartcop) with the Worst Candidate Ever (not the ‘lamest’ but the worse-est when all they needed was a merely adequate candidate who could marginally rise above the historically low-bar for qualification set by Bush Jr and have the GOP election mafia ‘rig’ the rest is absolutely hysterical.

  • 5thstate, great post.Thank’s for adding it here…Blessings

  • freedom rebel: Politicians don’t take into account how much this divides the nation. They need to find more common ground to agree on. That would be a great start.

Professional politicians (i.e those who set out to be politicians from about age 12) inherently concentrate on divisions in order to wheedle what ever advantage they can, by whatever means to ensure their election and then the maintenance of their elected position. Some are just born with the instinct to do so (and/or perhaps aren’t educated not to do so).

Those who enter professional politics out of a sense of acquired purpose after having spent some part their adulthood living ordinary lives outside of political machinery seem to be far more grounded in reality (what a shock) and a lot more honest, in general. That’s my ‘take’ on it all anyway.

I notice on the Democrat side

  • 5th Estate so good to see you :) I agree with your analogy of the Democrats.

The part that worries me is, I have never in my lifetime seen people so worked up with this kind of anger. That is the part of the divide that bothers me the most. I understand we will never fundamentally agree with Republicans but, I thought as a country we had grown up more than that. To have more respect for people and their diversity, I guess I was wrong.

I am glad to see Obama pulling so far out in front, that gives me great hope that more people are seeing McCain for what he has become.

  • I am not a “Troll” – I don’t even know what that is. I am an honorable POW and a war hero. I don’t need to lie or slander. I am brave and tell that senator Obama off when he is wrong – and he is always wrong.

You don’t have to love me, it’s just OK when you vote for me.

  • And before I forget this: Did you see FOX News? (It’s the best TV station in the world!)

During my campaigning I even stood behind that Obama when this fine old lady told he was an Arab terrorist. As you can see I immediately said “No, Ma’am! He is a decent family father.” since I just know he is a father but I surely don’t know if he is an Arab terrorist or not.

You should consider your attitude and do what these patriots here do. Be proud to be American! and vote for me.

  • Hmm.. FOX News the best news station in the world? We my beg to differ here in the UK, of course you guys can’t get BBC News I guess?

  • sarsen56,

ahem, “John McCain” was using just a tad bit of sarcasm up there in regards to FOX if you didn’t notice. (And many of us can get the BBC, btw, I do.)

  • British retards. You are booked to Guantanamo …

  • Mr McCain you are a truly brilliant multi-tasker. I hear you speaking on the teevee, and yet you’re able to post comments at the same time.

Glad you learned to use a computer. ;)
