I Have a Dream – Open Thread

As we reflect the meaning of the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and look forward to a new Administration and a new hope, now is the time to ask ourselves: What is our dream? What would we like to see accomplished in the next four years? eight years? In our lifetime?

This is an open thread. Feel free to comment on the above thoughts, or whatever else comes to mind.

  1. Don’t know about you folks, but I’m on official PARDON WATCH status, as of four , three, two, one, NOW.

  2. Good Morning houseofrobert’s, Yep!..

I missed the music tribute yesterday…Was up at 3;30 in the a.m. and crashed at 6p.m….Busy day wore me out, didn’t even know it was going to be on..I will not miss the swearing in tomorrow, no matter what..

Another chilly, clear morning…Hows your weather.?

    Any word from RUCerious yet.?

    Happy posting, Blessings

  3. Good morning Witch1,
We’re at 40, temps expected to fall all day, to a low of 25. Might get a bit of precip tomorrow. Right now it is all east of Chattanooga. I have to keep the woodstove going until I go to the Surgery center Wednesday. Haul and split wood like a lumberjack until I get enough in for several days. I am trying to use up the biggest pieces first in case my wife has to haul some after Wednesday for me.

  4. I’m on Season 4, thanks to Netflix. Not to give anything away . . . one of the interesting parts of BBC shows is that they’re not afraid to write major characters out of the story over time, and replace them with new ones. It helps keep the program fresh, IMO.

  5. Well, considering what they are fighting, I guess it is easy to blow one up every now and then. On the first one, an Irish woman was the bomber, but she sounded more like she was from Alabama than Ireland.

  6. Obama’s painting a wall and they forgot to take down the clock. He’s having to paint around it with a roller! LOL!

  7. Oh well. At times she sounded Irish. Any idea what season that was from, Gummitch?

  8. On ‘The View’ this morning Charlie Gibson is yakking on about the inauguration which is fine there’s plenty to talk about, but by eyes are on Hasselbeck who isn’t getting to talk at all (thank god)–because she is so irrelevant to the topic.

I ‘d love to see Whoopi run a retrospective of all the crap Hasselbeck spewed about Obama during the campaigns, especially as she’s sucking-up so hard now to stay relevant.

  9. Oh great, Hasselbeck got in to the WH and got “a hug from the president!”—Bush, of course. What a nauseating set-up.

Okay I;m done with that now. carry on .

  10. Hasselbeck, gag. I used to watch occasionally when Rosie was on. And even though I’m a Whoopi fan I couldn’t take it. Although Hasselbeck does make it easier to visualize the stupidity that comes out of the trolls at TP.

  11. What is it about shows that requires them to have an empty headed blonde winger, now? McLaughlin has Monica Crowley(?) and she’s worse than Buchanan and the guy she replaced, Tony Blankley.

  12. House, you’re having a heat wave! MSNBC has a cross-eyed African-American guy but I can’t remember his name. I believe these guys have been at the Stepford factory. Proof you don’t have to be blonde to be blonde.

  13. True, but it is a leftover from yesterday and as I said it will fall all day and not break freezing tomorrow.

I think all these blondes and AA spokespersons (Amy Holmes) is an attempt to get away from the Pat Buchanan, Ed Rollins, William Bennett look to the Republican Party. But it is what comes out of their mouths that defines them.

  14. house…

I used to enjoy McClaughlin, just for his style ( not content) and yo are correct, Monica is worse that that SOS Blankley—which is saying a lot.

  15. BTW what booze and food is everyone going to have on hand to morrow, to celebrate with?

And what do yo wish you could afford to have?

I’ve got some Andre’ budget chanpagne and bagels/ cream cheese.
I wish I had some Beluga caviar and a better champagne ( Piper?)

  16. I’m going to toast Obama with a good All-American Coca Cola. Might nosh on a bit of fried chicken.

  17. Well, I have a full bottle of Disaronno, a tin of smoked oyster’s and a box of waterford cracker’s if I decide to go that route…Think I will stay sober and focused instead….Drinking will start later…

In checking my cable junk found out I don’t have HBO unless I sign up for pay for view…Why don’t they have all these special event’s for all to see.? Imagine all the rural america with no cable that sees even less..Glad all the regular network’s will cover tomorrow..

Thank you for the thread and MLK clip BnF…Fond memories…..Blessings

  18. Rural America uses Dish Network or Direct TV, Witch1. They get the same programming as cable.

  19. Anyone listening to Hartmann, or anyone else broadcasting from Radio Row at the inauguration?
Thom is getting some good interviews, just from people walking by.

  20. Houseofroberts,…So that mean’s they have to pay extra to see these event’s.?..I have a 3 in 1 with comcast..Phone, internet and cable TV..Not cheap by any mean’s $156.00 a month…The main benefit’s are unlimited long distance phone service 24/7…Lot’s of music/ no video station’s and a huge bunch of junk to scan through…With out cable or a dish, nothing..Live in an area surrounded by little mountain’s that block everything…..Blessings

  21. I don’t know what special arrangements those satellite services have for just the inauguration ceremonies on HBO. I already carry HBO in my Comcast package. Mine is a little more than yours, Witch1, without the phone. I have only a cell phone, but my nationwide long distance is free.
Some rural areas are blocked by terrain from the satellites, most are not.
We’re inside of twenty four hours to go now.

  22. Ramos and Compean, The convicted Border Patrol agents, have had their sentences commuted.

  23. Lady Shayne, googled HBO and it seem’s I need plug in’s or something..Mac book and I are not compatible…..LOL..Never watch show’s on the puter…Blessings

  24. Good update’s houseofrobert’s..Thank’s….By this time tomorrow our country will be on a new road and 2 people that should not of been jailed may be free…..Blessings

    • I hope none of us is thinking that Bush doesn’t have at least one more “FUCK YOU!!” up his sleeve.

I’d be surprised if he didn’t issue a bunch of vile pardons, forcing the media to turn away from Obama’s inauguration day — and they would.

  25. Co-worker says that there is a breeding pair of bald eagles in the Oaks Bottom preserve, not far away on the Willamette River. Still, very strange to see them around here.

  26. I wondered what that strange sideways pull was. Gravity got turned for a bit.

    IT IS SNOWING HERE.
Current temp 33, the Weather Channel still believes it will be 39 at 5 pm. If I get accumulation I will post a road cam link.

  27. gummitch, we have 2 pair of eagle’s here at our little lake resort…Did not see them but heard them this morning…The red winged black bird’s were the noisy one’s that I saw…Lot’s of activity at the bird feeder also…Temp.34 on our last walk with the sun out….Blessings all…

  28. Bush may just be delusional enough to believe he can’t be touched. With no pardons, I wonder who will be the first one banging on the door at the DOJ looking to make a deal for immunity? This could be better than Nixon.

  29. Randi’s playing the clip of Bono and U2 from last night with part of Obama’s speech voiced over it. Very cool.

  30. Can we have a Bush-Trashing and/or Obama Celebratory party tomorrow?

It is SUCH a big day in history. Not only for us ,(the US) but the entire world.
The dark days are over, my friends!

  31. Nice seeing you, folks!

Curiously, I have my Sho-Dan’s test next week, and you know what troubles me most? I barely can stand the calf ache, when performing, as nage, ushiro hanmi handachi waza… it just kills me. I’m gonna be all week doing shikko.

  32. juan, congratulations on the examination. I can’t wait to hear about how well you do. We need to see you in a hakama.

I’m really glad I’m too old to take exams. Last fall, though, we were prepping a student for his shodan test and all the yudansha performed randori, even me, the first one in about 10 years. I was excellent!

But I can’t do suwari waza or hanmi handachi at all anymore — except for the shihonage where I don’t have to go anywhere and make uke do all the work.

And, no, peoples, I’m not going to translate.

  33. About time! I was getting worried.

I may have the five most contented cats you’ve ever seen. They’re all spread around that woodstove and they’re too full and too warm to fuss with each other!

  34. How hard is it to get a hotel room in DC? It’s so bad Bill and Hillary Clinton have to share a room! – Craig Ferguson

  35. I noticed something. The President-Elect called for a “National Day of Service” today, in honor of the Dr. King Holiday. Not the President, but the President-Elect.

    And people did it!

    I like that. :)

  36. LOL…Hope Hillery has a good collar on him and chain’s him to the porch this time…
That old dog had better not be on the hunt any more…

I love to watch Craig but tonight am going to hit the hay early, tomorrow’s gonna be a memorable day and I don’t plan to miss any of it….Blessings HouseofRoberts and all..

  37. Looking up an appropriate piece of music for later on.
Goodnight Witch1. Wish I could pick a time and just go to sleep.
