And I thought Madoff was a thief..

Money on pallets in Iraq

Where did all the money go to?

The Maddoff ponzi scheme is fraud of the first order. Billions have been lost, but there is an even bigger and nastier case of fraud out there. The Independent reports, that some $ 50 billion have been lost in corruption and outright theft in Iraq. And the culprits seem to be US Army officials.

In what could turn out to be the greatest fraud in US history, American authorities have started to investigate the alleged role of senior military officers in the misuse of $125bn (£88bn) in a US -directed effort to reconstruct Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein. The exact sum missing may never be clear, but a report by the US Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction (SIGIR) suggests it may exceed $50bn, making it an even bigger theft than Bernard Madoff’s notorious Ponzi scheme. Unlike the Madoff crime story, which affected mostly people who could lose millions and still be wealthy, this crime had more vulnerable victims. The Iraqi people who are still not having electricity, clean water, functioning hospitals. And American soldiers, too. There’s the shoddy infrastructure they were faced with and there was the anger among Iraqis that helped fuel the civil war which cost so many soldiers’ lives. A few made a fortune from their blood.

If I knew how, I’d create a BushcrimesWiki (if there isn’t any yet) to keep track of all the misdeeds of your former President’s administration. If the Democrats refuse to look, as Paul Jamiol put so aptly in his cartoon, it’s up to us to create the pressure necessary to get Bush/Cheney tried in a court of law. The buck ultimately stops at their door.

Hi All, I am  back from my skiing holidays. It was cold there!

We had a lot of fun sledging, too. There is a mile long sled track there and it’s deadly. The speed was awesome. The above video filmed at the Rinerhorn in Davos was not taken by me, you would have had the opportunity to watch me picking my poor self up again after my numerous tumbles. And don’t get me started on the potholes and what they meant for my bum.

What is on your mind today? Let us know and don’t miss the posts that will come up during the day.

SNL: Who’s smarter.. Rush or Hannity?

Is that a trick question..?
Raw Story:

Dan Aykroyd returned to Saturday Night Live to parody House Minority Leader John Boehner. Aykroyd and members of the the Saturday Night Live cast mocked Republican Congressional leaders’ attempts to plot against president Obama.

Can you figure out who all these characters are sitting around the table..?

From a distance…

I’m going to end with the divine Miss M.

Bette Midler and her “From a distance“. This is for all my fellow Critters and friends that I have made around the country (and globe) because of TheZoo!

Peace and hope to you all… We must have it to keep moving forward.

At Seventeen..

I loved this song when I was in my late teens. This album came out a year after I graduated from HS. I could SO relate though.. Especially the part about ‘the hair’ that she referred to in her introduction to the song..

I didn’t get valentines, I didn’t get chosen for basketball, and then there was ‘the hair’…

It is Friday isn’t it..?

These are probably corny musical selections, but I was reminded of my senior high grad trip to Disneyland, June of 1974. Hundreds (if not thousands) of high school seniors from all over the state, with open access to all of Disneyland – all night long. It was fabulous! No tickets, no lines.

Live music on outdoor stages, performers were Olivia Newton-John, and The Spinners. I’ll never forget it.

The Spinners were as much fun to watch doing their dance routines on stage, as they were to listen to. Fun concert!
