Open Thread Friday – Anne Frank’s Birthday

Ann Frank was born on June, 12, 1929, she was given a blank diary on her 13th birthday.  The rest is a revelation.

In light of  what occurred on Wednesday at the US Holocaust Museum, her birthday and the injustice and indignity that she suffered become even more tragic  as she describes what are man’s injustices to man.

Anne Frank died at Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in early March 1945 (aged 15) of typhus. Her older sister shared her fate.

If you are ever in Amsterdam, be sure to visit the Anne Frank House. If you first read the accounts in her diary, you can understand at least a semblance of her dreadful experiences in occupied Holland.

  1. On a lighter note:

Jim Nabors, Sylacauga Al, actor/singer, turns 77 today. He sang his traditional “Back Home Again In Indiana” at this year’s Indianapolis 500.

President George H. W. Bush, born this date in 1924, goes skydiving on his 80th birthday.

In 1967, the US Supreme Court unanimously ends laws against interracial marriages.

I go to sleep listening to the reassuring voice of Rachel Maddow now. Later. Yawn…

  2. G H W Bush always goes skydiving on his birthday (which I think would be his 85th this year). But I bet he never lets Barbara pack his chute. ;)

I just wonder if, as he’s falling to the ground, he thinks about the same things he thought about when he was parachuting out of his shot down plane during WWII? According to his own accounts, he thought about the separation of church and state.

  3. The lessons in courage that Anne Frank leaves us…
and in fascist brutality from those who killed her,
    should not be forgotten.

  4. I’ve been to the Anne Frank House. And I’ve been to Dachau. Mr Ahmadinnerjacket, you should take up Mr Obama’s invite. Perhaps if you are out of a job after your countriy’s election today?

Bad day to be a grouse in Scotland – 12th of June marks the start of grouse shooting season.

  5. Mind you, think of Mr Ahmadinnerjacket, if you were looking for holocaust deniers, you’d not think to rank President of Israel, Shimon Peres among them….?

Of course, it depends on which holocaust.

  6. CNN just showed George 41 landing, chute working perfectly once again. Oh well.

    • Absolutely, Med. We’re on the same track this evening. I put up a thread. :)

I’ll be gone for a while, but will check back later.

  7. Anyone else having trouble with TP?
I’m also having trouble with Crooks and Liars, but everything else is working.
