The Watering Hole: November 4 – Suicide or Revolt?

On this date in 1918 sailors of the German Navy instigated a post mutiny revolt in order to offset a plan by naval leaders to engage their forces in what would have lead to a certain bloodbath in interest of establishing the glory of the German nation by sacrificing all naval forces based in Wilhelmshaven and Kiel in an assault against a superior British naval force. Basically, the sailors decided to have no part of this as surrender talks were already in progress. The Kaiser abdicated on the 9th in reaction to events that occurred around this event.

This may all seem well and good in the history of world politics, but by the end of the revolt in 1919, the groundwork for Hitler’s rise had been laid in the SA. Hitler found his place with the rise of the NAZI party and establishing the SS. Families, not just Jews or Gypsies, sold heirlooms merely to survive in the 1920′s.

The instability in Germany fed directly into the events that led to WWII in Europe. Rampant inflation amongst the traditional Germanic people merely added icing to the cake. The SA and SS added fuel to this inferno. The Mann in the Straße or the man in the street felt hapless. With the collapse of of the world economy between 1929 and 1931, war became inevitable.

Karzai declared elected President of Afghanistan

Breaking News from CNN

Hamid Karzai has been declared the old and new President of Afghanistan, after Abdullah has redrawn his candidacy for the run-off elections.

So now the corruption and voter fraud can go on. IMHO it’s time to leave, they’re beyond help.

 

A HEALTH CARE PLEDGE FOR CONSERVATIVES

As a Conservative who DOES NOT have Health Insurance:

I, ___________, as a conservative who DOES NOT have health care insurance, do hereby refuse all health care paid for by the government. I pledge if I become sick, or a member of my family becomes sick, that I will refuse to be treated by any doctor, hospital or emergency personnel if the cost for these services will in any way be subsidized by a state or federal government.

I, ___________, as a conservative who DOES NOT have insurance, do hereby pledge to wait one year from the time of my first symptoms until I go to the emergency room of a government funded county hospital because I believe the 45,000 people who die every year because of access to health care deserve to die, because they are really deadbeats who could afford health insurance if they wanted it. Sunday Roast: Blackadder Goes Forth, Part 1

The Sunday Roast takes a bit of a turn for the next couple of weeks, with the series Blackadder Goes Forth, which is set on the Western Front in the trenches of World War I.  Due to a lack of prior planning on your host’s part (ok, that’s me), the series will be seen every other day between today and Veteran’s Day/Remembrance Day, when the very moving finale will play.

Another “big push” is planned, and Captain Blackadder’s one goal is to avoid being killed. The series thus follows his attempts to escape the trenches through various schemes, most of which fail due to bad fortune, misunderstandings and the general incompetence of his comrades.

And now, the show…the subtitles are a bonus!!!
