The Watering Hole: January 1, Feast of the Circumcision of Christ

Ow!!!

Here’s a new one, boys & girls.  Ever heard of this?

The Feast of the Circumcision of Our Lord is a Christian celebration of the Brit milah (ritual circumcision) of Jesus, eight days after his birth, the occasion too on which the child was formally given his name, Jesus, a name derived from Hebrew meaning “salvation” or “saviour.”

The circumcision of Jesus has traditionally been seen, as explained in the popular 14th century work the Golden Legend, as the first time theblood of Christ was shed, and thus the beginning of the process of the redemption of man, and a demonstration that Christ was fully human, and of his obedience to Biblical law.  (Wiki)

Unnecessary surgery on tiny infants in the name of obedience and the redemption of man.  Hey baby boys, thanks for taking that one for the team!

I suppose after getting his foreskin chopped off, a baby will admit to anything, even that Jesus was fully human.  Call me a cynic, but I think just the threat of chopping off part of his wee wee would be enough.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
