  1. Ah “The Green Fairy”. You can get it over here. I never did. Not enough consciousness in me that’s worth enhancing…

I am keeping my fingers crossed for tonight. Never mind how imperfect or incomplete that health care bill will be, it is an important step. And it won’t go away again. People will soon get used to being able to see a doctor when they’re sick and not worry if it will ruin them financially.

As I repeatedly said. Not having a health care scheme is unthinkable here.

  2. Gummitch watched it when it was broadcast originally! I think absinthe is interesting, and makes a nice contribution to a Sazerac cocktail, but I’m not interested enough to pay for the good stuff and not wasting my money on the not-so-good-but-still-expensive stuff.

EV, the bullshit that people have heaped up about health care is truly astonishing. I can only believe that about half of Americans have never been out of the US or know anyone who lives outside the US. How else would they fall for all the lies?

    • Hi gummitch,

If I look at those tea party freaks, the only place they’ve ever been out of are their tiny minds.

  3. Good morning folks!

I’ve been out of the loop for a few days, but I think if the vote passes today, we may see some people go crazy tomorrow.

I was watching David Plouffe try to talk while Karl Rove was interrupting him on This Week. Rove kept screaming something about “double counting” the numbers, as if the accountants at the CBO are stupid. He had a small whiteboard with illegible scribbles on it as if it were proof of something. I’m sure there will be clips up in various places. Rove was out of control.

I don’t think ABC, or any other network, should have Fox-affiliated pundits on their shows. I wouldn’t expect them to have Rachel on This Week, for example, so Rove shouldn’t be on either.

    • Good morning, all.

House, glad to see you back. I hope you got everything moved okay. I think if the bill passes today there will be some fireworks today — unless the teabagger types are truly concerned about “profaning the Sabbath” (which I thought was on Saturday, but what do I know?).

gummitch, even though I can barely stand Bourdain, I saw this show when it originally aired. I tried to find video of the aftermath, but it just wasn’t happening last night.

EV, I hope we will join the civilized world today — in terms of decent health care access. The funny thing is, the teabaggers will be first in line for any government help in buying their insurance — knocking aside sick kids and pregnant women.

      • I’m hoping MSNBC will offer live coverage of the debates beginning at 1 p.m. eastern. I’ve got C-Span up, but their screen is so small.

  4. Cantor needs a new barber. He looks too much like a televangelist! That’s probably on purpose.

I have to go over and clean the oil spills out of the truck floor, and we have to get the truck back by 4PM, but I’ll be back in asap. I’m hoping I make it for the final vote.

  5. MSNBC does not have the usual prison shows listed today, they are re-running MTP at noon and 4, and live news until 5 central in the other spots.

  6. Zooey, you aren’t kidding about Blackburn: “Freedom dies a little today”. WTF?

      • GOHMERT!!!

He acts like he’s going to cry. Reassuring us that the whole thing will be struck down immediately.

        *weepy weepy*

        • Crap. I need to get back to my Physiology lectures.

If anyone is hanging around, please feel free to post updates on the various outrageous bullshit by the Repiggies — or good things by more normal people. ;)

  7. HCR vote may not be until 5 or 6p EDT.

(At the moment there’s a procedural vote about naming a post office in Ohio).

  8. The screen on C-Span is so small – but the split screen is showing the ‘puppets’ outside shouting “Nancy…Nancy…Nancy.” “We’ll remember in November.”

  9. “The bill will cause:

“More dead babies- more wounded Mothers”

“We need to protect the womb and its occupant”

    this from R-NJ.

  10. Blumenauer is wearing a cute bike pin. Don’t know what’s up with that…

That’s just Earl being Earl. He’s a huge supporter of bicycle infrastructure.

  11. “The House is not in order”
“The House is not in order”
    ——–
Repubs: “Bribes. Bribes. Bribes.” “Louisiana Purchase”

    Parliamentary inquires …. procedural challenges

GoP attempting to drag this on & on.

    • Where did that language come from? I haven’t heard things like the “Cornhusker Compromise” and “Louisiana Purchase” before today.

The Repiggies were really working the terms.

  12. Another 15 min. (electronic) vote on Point of Order on Earmarks to Legislation.

The GoP are spoiled rotten children – and Issa is still an ass.

  13. Damn, the Stupak live- stream is crappy transmission so haven’t a clue what’s going on there.

  14. There is a Full Screen button on C-SPAN. It’s the second one from the left right on the bottom of the video window.

  15. Thanks Walt – I discovered that after posting.

I may have to take up drinking ‘enhanced’ beverages after listening to the driveling nonsense from the GOP. – the one guy got a prayer in there by quoting some pastor who read it many years ago.

hooda – trains are the only way to travel, if time permits. Did you dip your toe in the Pacific?
    Glad your adventure was wonderful.

  16. Lively day at The Zoo eh?

I keep my fingers crossed, only the left hand though the right one is hurt and bandaged. I will tune in tomorrow morning first thing to see how things went. Blessings!

  17. I’m back, finally.

A car was off the road and we had to detour to keep from having to sit and wait.

Still waiting for the big vote, huh?

    • Hi, House. It wasn’t one of your cars, was it?

Two more votes after this one. Here’s the update from TPM:

The House is now voting on the rule for debate after a smaller procedural motion passed. Although there are still two more votes — one for the reconciliation package and one for the Senate bill — this is an important one.

  18. At present 222 to proceed with General Debate
(only needed 216 so this is a good start).

    Hey, house!

  19. Hey 2ebb!

This the first time I’ve ever watched one of these bills pass on Sunday.

At least the House uses the on-screen voting so you know when the total is reached.

  20. Steny: “I want to thank my punk staffers…”

(Boner is probably urinating in his pants as we type).

It’ll all come back to bite the s.o.b g.o.p.

It’s riveting (I don’t have cable) and only recently obtained DSL so can watch this on-line.

      • The House is voting now.

Then there will be a vote on the Repiggie’s motion to recommit (kill) the bill, and then a vote on the reconciliation bill.

I can’t believe I spent all my time doing this today. I’m just really hoping the Dems will grow a pair with this victory.

      • From the TMP live feed:

House Minority Leader John Boehner gave an impassioned speech on the House floor moments ago. Asking House members whether they could say that the health care reform bill was written openly and transparently, Boehner yelled, “Hell no you can’t!”

        Poor human cheeto…

  21. The bill has over 200 Republican amendments…
Go! Nancy Go! From the Great State of CA – Speaker of the House speaking out, spanking the GOP

  22. Sorry about the hiccups -

It’s hanging at 213 for the longest time – with 5.5 min. to go.

  23. This is like beating Auburn for an Alabama fan. At first, you’re just relieved it’s over and you don’t have to listen to the other side gloat for a while. Then the trash talk starts anew…

  24. Boner and ‘dr’ are just messing themselves.

The Government is Taking Over – all freedoms have been rescinded. Everyone stand in line to have that microchip inserted – run for your lives!

  25. Still have your hiccups?

Yeah, the piggies are so classy.

The President was not using a teleprompter so what are the talking heads going to focus on?

  26. ebb,
I remember Diamond Head and I was only about two or three at the time. Mom, Dad and I had just returned from China after a circuitous return from a support role on a certain raid on Tokyo.
