The Watering Hole: September 10 — Squirrel!!

There were a bunch of these strange-looking squirrels living in the rocks at Rockaway Beach, Oregon.  They had absolutely no fear of people, probably because they were well fed by the tourists.  This little guy kept getting closer and closer and closer…srsly, I don’t really like squirrels, especially when they’re too friendly.  *shudder*

  1. The phrase ‘torm divert’ always comes to mind when I see a squirrel. The trolls are always chasing these rodents.

  2. You crack me up, gummitch! When squirrels show up in my life, I see them as representing “gathering” … I either need to “gather” a resource or recognize their erratic nature within my circumstance …

And debilish can certainly apply ;)

  3. I see squirrels as nasty destructive thieves. Oh, and noisy. If you’ve ever had your house invaded by them, you’d know why I hates ‘em.

  4. Sorry to hear that ~ Home invasion is no joke … Doesn’t matter what who or what; an unwanted guest can be an unwanted pest.

Hope it is under control at this point?

  5. I don’t live in that house any longer, but that’s another story. When we had a new roof installed we also had the eaves reinforced and the soffit vents hardened against rodent teeth.

At my new home they’re merely annoying. They’ve been trying their best to steal my bird food, but the trees are just too far away. They’re constantly chattering at the neighborhood cats, who lie in wait for them, but I can live with that–especially if one of the squirrels makes a mistake close to the ground.

  6. LOL…Now we have 13 cats between all the residents still waiting for the court case at the end of the month…Squirrels are no longer an issue, moles, mice and rats are gone as well…If we can just keep the larger critters at bay we might all make it through this madness.

Who would of thought 50+ years after I was nick named Squirrely it would be on a web site as the main topic..Not because I broke into houses or collected nut’s, chuckle, but because I was always on the go and dancing so much..Funny and odd..

Have a wonderful week end all.We are having our usual garage sale stuff and major clean up to get the hell outta here done…..Peace, Blessings & Joy.

  7. Is anyone watching the Pakistanis on TV, protesting the potential upcoming burning of their ‘sacred symbol’, the Koran, by burning American flags….. thinking, oh the irony.

We are truly neck-deep in stupid at the moment..

  8. Meanwhile, Glenn Beck is charging big $s to people for his 9/11 ‘commemoration’ tomorrow.

As Rude Pundit says: Glenn Beck needs to be ‘c***punched’. I’ll buy a ticket for that!

  9. Today is, I believe, EID, the beginning of Ramadan. Here in Portland, it seems there was a larger service / ceremony / event at the Convention Center. I was in the area as scores of families were walking away, most of them in what I believe are African traditional dress. Lots of beautiful, colorful shiny fabrics, particularly on the kids. A few of the men were in Western suits, others in equally beautiful African garb.

On some level, it must take a lot of guts to be out in the open like that these days, even in Portland.

  10. gummitch, Happy Eid al Fitr!
It does indeed signal the end of Ramadan. As you noted – a joyous time and all are in finery befitting the day!

  11. Eid al-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal, the month which follows Ramadan in the Islamic calendar. It is a time to give in charity to those in need, and celebrate with family and friends the completion of a month of blessings and joy.
Before the day of Eid, during the last few days of Ramadan, each Muslim family gives a determined amount as a donation to the poor. This donation is of actual food — rice, barley, dates, rice, etc. — to ensure that the needy can have a holiday meal and participate in the celebration. This donation is known as sadaqah al-fitr (charity of fast-breaking).

  12. If you read about the holiday – it may sound very familiar: “After the Eid prayer, Muslims usually scatter to visit various family and friends, give gifts (especially to children), and make phone calls to distant relatives to give well-wishes for the holiday. These activities traditionally continue for three days. In most Muslim countries, the entire 3-day period is an official government/school holiday.”

These are the very scary folk that the right wing hate mongers want you to fear –
hmmm, it sounds very similar to Christmas and New Years rolled into one.
Be afraid be very afraid of the well wishes from the Muslim community/s

  13. Hard as things have been for muslims in this country lately, I can see that there may be some blessing for them in being a minority religion here. It sound like they are able to have a faith and family centered holiday without it being preceeded by two months of exhortation to “Spend More Money”! I wish them a blessed holiday.

  14. As ebb pointed out it’s the end of Ramadan and a time when Muslims will be congregating more and discussing things. It is why the imam in Florida was trying to get the jackoff to say he wouldn’t burn the Koran before things really escalate.

  15. I love squirrels, you people are evil. Did anybody see the baby squirrel who is being nursed by a cat?

  16. Zooey just hates all baby animals. She’s vicious. My puppy is 5 months old and at least 45 lbs. They grow up so fast. …sniff…

  17. There was a special on VH1 last night called something like the 100 best rock acts ever. It was really good up until #75 when I fell asleep. Almost as good as music night around here for helping remember old songs.

  18. Shayne, I thought the William Shatner hosted 1-hit wonders was the best – VH1 or MTV – I forget..

  19. On EID, a message from a Muslim friend in Lahore, Pakistan:

Wishing you a peaceful and blessed Eid although it would be less sweet for all of us in the aftermath of floods and ongoing killings.

    Regards,

    Adeel

Adeel Ashraf is a devout Muslim. He’s also one of the most gentle people I’ve ever come to know. One of the reasons that Newt and his ilk sicken me whenever they open their hate-filled mouths.

I could rant for hours, but won’t.

  20. To the trolls:

But that we shall be better and braver and less helpless if we think that we ought to enquire, than we should have been if we indulged in the idle fancy that there was no knowing and no use in seeking to know what we do not know;–that is a theme upon which I am ready to fight, in word and deed, to the utmost of my power.

  21. Squirrel makes an excellent Chili, and I do not mean that they can cook. I use 1 tsp of chili powder, ½ tsp each of oregano, crushed red peppers, cumin and garlic powder plus 1 can of green chili peppers, 2-8 0z cans of tomato sauce, 1 15½ oz can of black beans – drained and rinsed and 1 mediun onion – chopped to each lb of squirrel meat. Just brown the meat and sauté the onions, then add the remaining ingredients and let stew at simmer for about 20 minutes.

  22. “Wonder what the Palin Rapturanis/End of Days do to help others? Hand out bibles?” – Cats.

No. They give tax breaks to millionaires.

  23. I like to think that my students are teasing me…I think they find great amusement in my reaction…Of course as long as I set boundaries, I should be fine…
