1997 – In Denver, Colorado, jihadist terrorist Timothy McVeigh was convicted on 15 counts of murder and conspiracy for his role in the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. At least, that is what right wing pundits would like you to believe.

Good Morning ~
This was sent to me by a friend about an hour ago. And I am trying to work through some pretty strong emotions related to this before work. I am passing his email on as I feel it may bee of interest here at the Zoo … Peace ~
“The tons and tons of radioactive water are a huge fucking problem. Fortunately, a typhoon is heading straight for northeastern Japan (hitting Tokyo tonight/tomorrow) and that will probably cause a lot of it to spill into the ocean, meaning we don’t have to worry about cleaning it up:
[edited for copyright purposes]
Good morning.
I found this comment on a local newspaper blog from someone named SNFB in answer to the Tea/R argument that compares the US government to a household living beyond it’s means that must now learn to live on a budget:
“Hmmm: how would this play out in the average household? Mom and Dad take on huge, unnecessary debt to prop up wasteful conspicuous consumption, then voluntarily take significant pay cuts. Then, they tell their littlest kids and aging parents to eat less and make due so that Mom and Dad can “save” money to pay for their excesses.
Yeah, I didn’t think so.
GOP Government takes on a huge amount of debt (2 wars, one illegal), and then gives Government a pay cut (tax breaks for all), then tells the low income citizens (who used to be middle income tax payers until manufacturing died) who need services most (and who pay a larger % of their income for said services) to make more sacrifices.
It makes no sense.
If you wanted war, pay for it. You want freedom? Pay for it.
Big Oil has taxpayer funded security services that they should pay for themselves.”
Sounds about right to me.
lass, we have to be very careful about Fair Use and copyright laws here at The Zoo. I’m going to edit your comment to remove the text of the article: the link you provide is what should be posted, along with brief quotations from the article if you choose.
To all: be particularly careful when dealing with the AP (and keep in mind that AP stories show up verbatim in periodicals that pay for the privilege).
The vast amount of contaminated water from Japan’s nuclear clusterf*ck is already having an effect on the fishing industry on the Washington coast. I was out last weekend, Memorial day weekend, when there’s usually 50 – 100 private boats out fishing for Lings and rockfish, and there were three.
Three boats. Maybe 10 or 12 people spending money in that economic zone. When I asked the skipper what the deal was, he says that he had cancellations up the gazoo after the reactor meltdown, as people were sure that the radioactivity had spread to our coast and contaminated our fish. He was thinking about getting a frigging geiger counter, but they’re expensive, and he’s pretty much working hand to mouth. Oh, and the rumor is that the tuna are actually contaminated because they may have been over there at that time, so no one is planning on even offering tuna excursions this summer.
gummitch, I love the idea of taxing big oil to pay for their war.
Found on MSNBC this AM
“The global war on drugs has failed and governments should explore legalizing marijuana and other controlled substances, according to a commission that includes former heads of state, a former U.N. secretary-general and a business mogul.
A new report by the Global Commission on Drug Policy argues that the decades-old worldwide “war on drugs has failed, with devastating consequences for individuals and societies around the world.” The 24-page paper was released Thursday”
More at ‘Global war on drugs has failed,’ key panel says
I’m one of those who have always been suspicious about the Oklahoma City bombing. From the mysterious third suspect who appeared Hispanic or GASP Muslim, to the claims by a retired military man who said plastic explosives were also used and what my friends older brother was saying while we had a b.s. session.
He was a former Navy Seal, a Navy man for 20+ years. He said he was involved in some very hairy operations abroad, including being part of the search for Noriega in the Panama jungles and finally retired because as the leader of his unit, he became disgusted with the secrecy involved with what they were doing overseas.
Anyway he brought up the Oklahoma City bombing and he thought it was a case of one branch of the government pissing off another branch of the government. He said there were many times when certain suspicious planes were allowed to land on the Navy base, while other planes were identified as drug runners and shot down. He guessed that the Oklahoma City bombing was a revenge bombing for the death of a known drug runner who worked with the CIA among others, in short he was implying “don’t phuck with us or our operation ever again.”
Far fetched? I don’t know. We all know what greed and money has already done to this country and the world. And I’m one of those who has no doubt that members of our government and military have no problem sacrificing Americans to attain their goals.
To OutstandingInMyField: I totally agree with your comment. If the oil companies are using our military as a security force to protect their interests, they should be paying for this service.
Of course if we started doing this we would hear the oil big wigs and the republican oil whores whine that “It would be un-American for the government to charge a protection fee to those poor, picked on oil companies.
I love the idea of taxing big oil to pay for their war.
Better yet, how about taxing the M.I.C. for their contribution at, say, 100% of their profits? Why, iow, should anyone be allowed to PROFIT from a war, from any war? How about very low taxes on alternative energy profits — incentive to quit making bombs and making windmills instead?
If we as a species are going to allow something as ridiculous as “money” to guide every single damn thing we do, then profit on otherwise destructive entities ought to be severely limited, perhaps even confiscated.
Yep, I got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning! I’m also SICK OF THIS SHIT! — where profit is ALL that counts.
Three Wrongs Don’t Make Big Oil Right – Jim Hightower
http://www.jimhightower.com/node/7456
Outstanding,
and when teenage daughter shows up pregnant, mum and dad force her to have the baby, without any medical care, then kick her and the baby out on the street, because, after all, she is responsible for her child’s care…and forcing her out of the home will guarantee she will get a job…
And when mum and dad’s banker-friend runs out of money, they raid their kid’s piggy banks, and give it to their banker-friend. Their credit cards have a clause that says when mum and dad die, their kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, and so on, will have to continue to make the payments until mum and dad’s debts are paid in full. And every time mum and dad reach their credit limit, their banker-friends simply extend more credit.
frugal,
I agree with you. War has never been beneficial to anyone but the elites who like to keep all the money it generates to themselves. Maybe an ordinary citizen’s sense of revenge gets satisfied when we go to war, but that’s all they get out of it. Corporations that profit hugely from war do not give those profits to the familes of those who died so they could make those profits.
A Military Industrial Complex may be necessary for a nation’s defense, but that doesn’t mean that someone should be making huge amounts of money from it. The MIC (of any nation, not just ours) should exist for the SOLE purpose of national defense, not for anyone’s personal enrichment.
I find it shameful and despicable that there are people in this country who think that making money is the only worthwhile thing to do. And I find it hypocritical that some of these people consider themselves followers of a man who is supposed to have said that money wasn’t going to get you into Heaven.
I used to have a calculation somewhere that factroed in the cost of US defense of the oil shipping lanes and the Gulf….. gave at least an idea of the *true* cost of each gallon of gas at the US pump by adding in the defense premium.
Can’t remember what I did with it.
Something along the lines of:
1. The US defense budget is about protecting US interests – say 1/3 of which goes to securing oil from the Gulf etc. – get it to a $s/ day defense premium
2. Nominally add in the cost of Iraq ‘additional spending’ amortized out depending on your position regarding the reason for the war.
3. Calculate the number of gallons of gasoline consumed each day in the US. I think you go with 22m BPD of which 65% are imported, of which 42 gallons are yielded each barrel, of which 65% are cracked to gasoline – something like 400m gallons per day I think.
Anyway don’t have time to take this further…. you get the idea though.
OK, back of a fag packet – $1.35 per gallon is spent on defense to get that gallon into your car.
Which is why our military budget winds up around 700 BILLION, more than the next fifiteen nations combined.
If the federal gummint would be wise enough to tax rebate half the cost of a fully electric Leaf, Volt or Tesla S amortized over the life of the car, we’d be off oil in ten years.
From the files of ‘Oh the bloody vicious irony’ – Rudepundit on 06/01 on the juxtaposition of Canadian Maher Arar and 13-year-old Syrian boy Hamza al-Kahteeb.
http://rudepundit.blogspot.com/
One was abducted by the Syrian security services and tortured to death, the other was abducted by the US security services, rendered *to* the Syrian security services so he could be tortured too. Arar, was fortunate to survive.
Oh, and ditto the fifty percent rebate on solar shingles to power your electric car from your home power plant…
Oops, then I guessed low RUC. Take it to at least $1.50 then.
Is it just me but does:
1. We don’t torture, we don’t kidnap people and send them to countries to be tortured
and
2. Syria is a nation where torture is obvious, frequent and pervasive
Constitute grounds for indictment at the Hague. I’m sure Ratko could use some like-minded company, eh Chimpy you venal sack of shit.
Did you note the link at the end – the US still renders ‘but under more supervision’… WTF?

Darwin 1 God 0
No, no, no… BnF— if a teenaged daughter gets pregnant, mum and dad need to set up a sham engagement to be married only to discard it after it is no longer necessary and then have said daughter be the fresh new face for abstinence as a spokesperson…
Next–send said daughter on a dancing reality contest show and flood the voting so that she doesn’t get voted off and continues to rake in enough money to buy a home in another state whose housing market was destroyed by the housing bubble.
That way the girl can pull herself up by her own bootstraps.
Palin: New Hampshire Visit At Same Time As Romney Announcement ‘Coincidental’
What. A. Bitch.
Darwin 1 God 0
Actually, I’d think it was more accurate to state it as Darwin: all of life, God: 0
LL, can those who live south of S. Mtn. see Bristol’s house in Maricopa from their yard?
TtT – hope people like the taste of cinnamon because cinnamon kills E coli. It does take 24 hours to work. Testing was done several years ago on apple juice contaminated with E coli. Cinnamon was added to the juice and after 24 hours, no live bacteria was found. I’ll look for this study and if it is still out there in cyber space, I’ll post a link.
Quote of the Day:
“Thanks for ruining our vacation,” – Piper Palin to a Time photographer.

Looks like little Piper tipped mama’s hand.

OK – So my big question of the day is this: While preaching to the democrats about being responsible – why is the republican party play a risky game of roulette on the debt ceiling? This goes beyond just plain stupidity and borders on madness. They trashed the place over the last 30 years and REALLY did a job under Bush/Cheney. Now the want to make sure that the whole world goes through a Great Depression in the 21st century? Why? An attempt to inflict some unholy Purgatory for us miserable non-fundamentalists. Or is this simply their way of bringing on the rapture?
Welcome to the Zoo, Ruth!
Sarah Palin must have been missing the paparazzi, hence the vacation paid for by SarahPac. She is so transparent. As for the media, last month it was Donald Trump and Newt Gingrich. Looks like June is beginning with Sarah Palin. Who knows who will be July’s Repub star
ruth – the Republicans think that by blowing the debt ceiling away and defaulting that they are going to bring Jesus back sooner.
Democrats are more rational, but alas, they have no stones.
Cats, wonder why the lamestream media is not asking ‘Who is paying for this Sarah?’ and a piece of journalism on where SarahPAC spends its money…… its not on GOP candidates, that’s for sure.
RuthMarie – this is a game that the Repubs play. It’s like the shell game where they want us to guess which shell is hiding the peanut. But then again, the Repubs make lousy poker players because they always show their hand too early.
TtT – Lawrence O’Donnell brought up the question about the legality of Sarah Palin using SarahPac money for her “vacation”. Not sure where O’Donnell gets his information or facts.
Jon Stewart Goes Ballistic, Teaches Trump How To Eat Pizza
The Repubs will raise the debt ceiling otherwise they will lose their Wall Street campaign money.
Later, folks as I must get going to do some errands. If I have the time, I will stop back later.
Palin: New Hampshire Visit At Same Time As Romney Announcement ‘Coincidental’
What. A. Bitch.
Well, I won’t go the Ed Schultz route and call her a “slut,” but I will say she’s an “attention whore.”
From Washington Monthly:
If the Palins wanted some privacy on their vacation, perhaps they shouldn’t have had a press-release announcing that they were going on vacation along with the itinerary.
zxbe, and somehow that huge painted bus with a trail of press vehicles makes stealth difficult.
Ruth: Now the want to make sure that the whole world goes through a Great Depression in the 21st century? Why? An attempt to inflict some unholy Purgatory for us miserable non-fundamentalists.
It’s the GOP’s preferred way of destroying the middle class, those millions of lazy, unproductive, and generally worthless bums (like you, like me, etc.) who want and demand that the grandly ambitious and incredibly productive rich and powerful take care of them from cradle to grave.
Morning work done and it’s finally a beautiful perfect day here.
“somehow that huge painted bus with a trail of press vehicles makes stealth difficult”
What can I paint on my truck to induce others to pay for my family’s beach week?
I should have added that what REALLY pisses the rich and powerful off is when the middle class demands that they pay their fair share toward national maintenance. You know, roads, infrastructure, stuff like that. I mean, really. Why should they be expected to do THAT? It’s bad enough that they have to pay to have their own grass cut, for chrissake.
gummitch, good point. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there’s live GPS data being fed to the media so they’ll know where she is.
I get the feeling Joan Crawford will look like a saint compared to the home life of the Palins.
Quote of the Day II: (that second paragraph is a hoot)
“Poor George Will. He’s got a huge boehner in his boxers for Jon Huntsman, but he can’t — try and fantasize as he might — see a path for his chosen love to the White House.
The reason for Will’s frustration is quite simple. His party, the once grand old one, has been hijacked by the petty young thing of profound unseriousness: a seething, tempestuous horde of geezers and bigots and thumpers and temperamental medievalists and Hayekian hayseeds who prefer to soar blissfully on the goofweed of ideological purity than swoon over a candidate’s dignified record of accomplishment,” – P.M. Carpenter.
On the matter of Palin’s bus and where it is, I have only one question: Why in the world would ANYONE alive or dead ever give even one single shit? I’ve even been skipping over the Palin videos if they happen to pop up on something I’m watching on the internet. Frankly, I’m not sure I’d watch her if she traveled and granted interviews in the nude. But even if I did, I’d still have to turn the sound off, can’t stand either the voice or the idiocy that it spouts. Yuk.
What the hell is the basis for the interest in her? She’s a bitch, dumb and stupid, shrill, and about as far from being interesting to me as is Donald Trump. And I wanna tell you, that’s a LOT of no interest!
frugal, the answer is the 24/7 news cycle. There’s a lot of airtime to fill these days. 30 years ago she’d have gone back to Alaska to live in relative obscurity.
What the hell is the basis for the interest in her? She’s a bitch, dumb and stupid, shrill,…
So is Snooki on Jersey Shore. Palin and her sycophants are a guilty pleasure for me. I’m waiting for the crash & burn but am gobsmacked at the people who literally worship “Queen Esther.”
I’ve heard of Snooki but have never seen or heard ‘it.’ We refuse to waste money on cable TV and live too far from any transmitters (if there still is such a thing) to get anything that way. So, no Jersey shore, no “reality” TV, no nothin’. But we do watch a lot of movies. Old ones esp. From back in the days when they were still worth watching.
Gummitch on Christie – LOL.
Frugal… sadly, I have old eyes and cannot see without glasses. I can see Wild Horse Pass from my backyard, but I cannot see a certain Palin daughter’s house in Maricopa…
zxbe— 30 years ago, Palin would have been some girl on a boat called “Monkey Business” instead of a serious candidate for President.
gotta wonder if Mitt’s campaign is sourcing tire spiking strips on the Intertubes as we write!
LibertyLover ~ Or kneecapped Dorothy Kilgallen to get her spot on What’s my Line?
OK… my question is, was is with all political theatre with the little pizza party between Trump and Palin? What was the purpose of that? Attention seeking? VP shopping?
If you wanted privacy, why travel with on a huge bus with your name plastered on it? That bus is the same bus that was used on her reality show… just with a big ol’ brand new paint job….
Frankly I feel a little sorry for Piper, but she’s gonna grow up being a little monster, I fear.
Whoah, get a load of this pointy-headed pinko at the New York ‘Das Kapital’ Times
Ok I’m going for it – Palin has decided to be the cookie in her very own, pay-to-play circle-jerk….
hmm, the stalker now feels the stalking heat!
RUC— heh… as petty as Palin is, I wouldn’t put it past her.
TtT, That article by Bartlett should be required reading for all Teabagging clods. Not that they’d understand Gross Depends Products…
Liberty Lover ~ was is with all political theatre with the little pizza party between Trump and Palin?
With that collection of attention whores, I’d call it a luchtime brothel.
Turtle…
Brain bleach all around…
From “A Prayer For My Daughter,” in Tina Fey’s new book:
“Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes and not have to wear high heels. What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You, because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.”

‘Sovereign Citizen’ Opens Fire On Store Because It Ran Out Of Crawfish
“According to the Sheriffs Department, four loaded guns were found in Kelly’s car, including a 12-gauge shotgun, a pistol, and a revolver. The book “The Sociopath Next Door” was also found.”
Or in Kelly’s case, the sociopath is right in the car.

And here’s another Trot over at the NYT: The case for raising taxes – featuring Alan ‘Mad Dog’ Greenspan
Why didn’t the sovereign citizen just go out on his own and catch his own damned crayfish?
Why wasn’t the sovereign citizen checked for a visa when he entered the establishment?
I’m guessing the “sovereign” citizen had no problem using our roads to get to the store.
Can we deport the ‘sovereign citizen’ now that he’s a criminal?
I think the shooting by the sovereign citizen was a drive by.
If anyone is interested in another topic, I created a new post for discussion. Later…
Notice the resemblance in the photo between Larry and the crawfish, the beady eyes, the insane stare…just sayin…
Ship the sovereign citizen to Guantanamo and explore his rectum with a flashlight – he’s obviously an enemy combatant committing an act of war against the nation – sovereign nation’s don’t need no habeas corpus and according to the Donald we can go and occupy his house and take his flatscreen TV, his Ted Nugent collection and his NASCAR posters now.
Sovereign citizen of what? Lot 14C at the Shady Palmetto Trailer Park? Fine, go hold court. But please stay there. Illegal immigrants are bad for the economy.
Oh damn – tornadoes in MA.
This is the year of freakish, out of place weather.
Anyone listen, watch, read about the vapid, bobbleheaded Mitten anouncement! today? Sheesh.
“[The US] is inches away from ceasing to be a free market economy”
That was one of Romney’s vague, unsubstantiated hyperboles from today’s policy-empty announcement. Politifact declares it’s “so far off base that it’s ridiculous.”
I could go on, but for other reasons I’m already a bit nauseous…
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/jun/02/mitt-romney/mitt-romney-says-us-only-inches-away-ceasing-be-fr/
“Oh damn – tornadoes in MA.”
There was a MA blowhard in New Hampshire today.
Badmoodman – I heard that Romney was going to run on “jobs”. Ha, ha, ha. Where are the jobs, Boehner?
The “r” in Republicans stands for repeat, repeat, and repeat.
“[The US] is inches away from ceasing to be a free market economy”
Yeah, the monopolistic oligarchs are just about done with their work.
“I heard that Romney was going to run on “jobs””
Mitt:“I will make business taxes competitive with other nations, modernize regulations and bureaucracy and finally promote America’s trade interests.”
Really, that’s it? That’s the jobs program? Modernizing regulations and bureaucracy? Srsly?
Hooda – the young man in that avatar looks rather angelic. Are looks deceiving?! ;>
Ebb, that was the photo my Mom used to say convinced her I was possessed. The gleam in the eye just doesn’t come across in the little avatar. That was First Communion.
They must keep that resolve and not cave. The GoOpers are on the ropes at this point.
Good afternoon all…
Whilst I browse through the posts (and before the dog wants his afternoon “Tour of the Neighborhood June 02 2011″ I wanted to toss out this OT that I just saw…Regarding the Sunday morning talk shows, the lack of representation by the Left and how to contact the shows.
“Senator Bernie Sanders Belongs on the Sunday Shows”
http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/2011/06/02/senator-bernie-sanders-belongs-on-the-sunday-shows/
If anyone feels inclined…I say chime in!
Hooda – thought the top of that ‘book’ looked like a missal!
OH! Opps…another OT!

Cool.
SoapBox, there’s no such thing as OT on the open thread.
ughhhhhh…
Habit?
Well…what a say about myself…Pretty but not too bright!
Oh ya…then I got old…now I’ve got nutn’n.
SoapBox (this is an open thread so nothing is OT)
Are you in CA?
This is great – maybe the Repugnant party’s resolve to ruin the state is beginning to erode.
That’s it, ebb. Make the R’s own every bit of heartless blackmail they want to push. Moody’s is already signaling the rancor in the discussion is undermining confidence in the economic markets. The R’s stance of our way or no way needs to be met with then it is no way and on your head be it.
Oh, those poor, poor California Republicans. Why don’t they get with the program and just convert to the Democratic Party.
The Republicans in PA are mostly tea baggers that cling to their guns and jeebus. Last weekend we drove through “guns and jeebus land” in PA. The people are so poor in these parts of the state that the church is all they have. They need their guns for food as they hunt the state game lands. If they don’t get a deer, well, they better hope that there is leftovers in the freezer from the previous year. Seriously, even WalMart hasn’t visited these parts of PA.
Ebb..yup..Los Angeles area.
We can only hope that the worst they can do is walk…permanently!
Will this circus be televised? (please oh please).
Ebb – I hope so
Soap – I’m in the Bay Area
And, will Palin be joining the debate? How about that “I love myself” Donald Trump, will he be attending?
“Bachmann To Join GOP Debate In New Hampshire On June 13″
I wonder if she’ll fly to Massachusetts instead.
“Will this circus be televised? (please oh please).”
Hopefully with separate HD and standard broadcast feeds. Heh.
Dang! I’m beginning to miss my recent little battles with Fred666. To Fred666, I was a Naderite whose comments at Think Progress would help the republicans win. To me. Fred666 is a party loyalist, who thinks it is wrong to criticize your party when they are in the White House.
With that said, how many here are still going to Think Progress? I am going through withdrawals, the place where I could vent, defend, attack, debate, discuss or joke around with others is gone, replaced by a new and improved, bigger and better version, We’re talking 3. phucking 0 here. This thinkprogress/facebook deal really has me shaking my head. Must get fix…must get fix.
*Soros*
EVERYBODY…. DRINK!
Moody’s is already signaling the rancor in the discussion is undermining confidence in the economic markets.
Don’t bet the banksters don’t have spies telling them exactly what is going on in these closed door meetings so they can gain the advantage when the big sell off starts. This will make ‘The Big Short’ look like penny ante poker! Better get your 401Ks out of the market now, because it will be too late soon.
The upcoming Republican debate now that Shelly has joined in…Ren & Stimpy vs the Angry Beavers? Please tell me it will be carried live on the Cartoon Network.
Calm down IP…I miss it too, I can’t really even stand to read the new site. Seriously, present company excepted, even before the change the quality of the dialogue had decreased. It had become much rarer to read an informative comment there. If it helps you I could try to yell at you for daring to question the party line.
I haven’t even looked at TP since Tuesday morning, probably never will again unless they make the necessary repairs.
TP and Sarah Palin have a lot in common — I’m no longer interested in either one of them.
I am a bit unclear about just what the R’s will be debating. Whose plan kills off the Middle class faster? Who is more greedy and will suck up to corporate masters more quickly and efficiently? These seem to be the two planks of the Republican plan for America and so far they are going over real well.
I don’t miss TP much, and less than I did yesterday.
I’ll just post more of my drivel here and you people will just have to take it.
.
.
Yanno, if that’s ok, ok?
but frugal both are just out there networking socially to achieve public prominence. Nothing says news reporting like having it liked on Twitter and FB.
I decided to go with the Hotmail solution. It’s not been any big deal to set it up. Posting is not as full-featured as Disqus; but in the end it’s the people who are posting that’s important. Slowly, but surely, I’m starting to see some familiar handles showing up there again.
The biggest change to get used to is they’ve merged their various blogs into one stream. So there’s more frequent updates in that main stream and it’s hard to keep up sometimes.
My TP withdrawals have caused me to take up jogging. Goddamn bastards.
Outstanding, how’d your son take the loss of his pig?
He took it well Hooda, but keeps obsessing about the death of the remaining pig. I try tell him there’s no reason to think he’s doomed, but he still brings it up again and again. In a way that’s how he deals with everything, and I just explain over and over. Thanks for asking, I will keep your advice to refer to again and again, it was beautiful. Son and dad are now trying to mold a civil war era bullet by melting lead on the grill. I hope that improves his history grade.
“My TP withdrawals have caused me to take up jogging. ”
I hope this doesn’t happen to me!
Outstanding, I have never met a young farmer, just getting the chance to raise their own critters, who didn’t have a tendency to invest a bit of their heart in all of them. May they have luck making their miniball on the grill.
I go over to TP from time to time, but it is harder to comment or remember where I commented…
If I switch to my other computer, I haven’t been able to post a comment from there. I am not sure why. If facebook is logged into on that computer by my daughter, then I have to log her out before I can comment.
Commenting is a bit more difficult. There is so much info over there to comment on and/or read that it is like Huff post now… Who has time for all of that… I liked it when they were more selective.
Good evening, IP.
Considering some of the new filler articles appearing at TP I’m not even as fond of their reporting. Are you old enough to remember the “new Coke” debacle? I suspect that the folks at TP didn’t realize that changing everything about the site would drive people away. Maybe they’ll attract a few tweeners who want to go beyond wondering if Buffy and Billy went all the way on prom night?
Anyway, there’s no power on earth that will force me to set up a facebook account. Hotmail is out since I swore off all things Windows a few years ago. A few years ago I cancelled an AOL account and they continued to try and collect payment for months after their service was terminated. They’re out. And? Yahoo mail interferes with Gmail in my Linux OS. So? TP won’t be getting any traffic from me for the foreseeable future.
It is kinda sad. All that I ever wanted them to change was to spend two minutes a day deleting accounts that had been flagged a few hundred times. Can one even still “flag” comments in the new format? Frankly, I don’t much care. I just hope that they don’t continue devolving into a forum for gossip and soft news. There are already waaaaay too many places to read about Charlie Sheen’s latest break from reality.
I read the posts at TP but I no longer comment.
“Commenting is a bit more difficult. There is so much info over there to comment on and/or read that it is like Huff post now… Who has time for all of that”
Exactly, LL.
I registered to comment at HuffPo a couple of years ago and never posted anything because it was super-speed commenting where no one read anything, they just threw in their $.02. It was like going to a Comment Rave.
The more I think about it, the more I think that the family farm is America in a nutshell. A strong core of self reliance, an understanding of neighbors and help, a link to the land and being able to see first hand the effects of dumping waste, where it works where it is bad, the feelings of achievement and accomplishment when things work and an understanding of the work it takes when they don’t.
Farms aren’t about producing mega amounts of anything. They are about knowing.
OIMF and IP you reminded me of a time in 2006 or 07 on C & L when, late at night, regulars would make posts that republiscums would make to give the progressive regulars something/someone to argue with, for the practice.
Among the reasons I dislike the new TP format is the need to log into Hotmail in order to log on to TP.

Trump defends his method of eating pizza with a fork
Sorry King CombOver, it ain’t workin’…
Several of us at The Zoo have been posting at TP since the early years of blogs. It’s kind of sad to say “good-bye” but I won’t have my Facebook connected to TP. I use Facebook to connect with people I don’t get to see very often and who are very dear to me. I don’t use Twitter either and I won’t text.
C & L monitors its comments. TP could have done the same thing.
Zooey – some of the bloggers at DailyKos are quite good at research.
Weiner should have kept his mouth shut, and let DKos handle the mess!
For some reason, I cannot post a comment if I am on Safari’s web browser. It just seems to go nowhere??? Can you techies explain that to me?
So that leaves me with opening Firefox and Safari at the same time… It’s hard to make a snarky comment and run and I don’t want to spend all flippin’ day on TP trying to get my comment posted.
Sigh* I’m going to miss TP… But most of the people whose comments that I read most are here at the Zoo anyway…
We enjoy having new friends, LL.
Feel free to talk about any TP topic here. We do that pretty often.
Zooey,
While I admire many things about Weiner, keeping his mouth shut just isn’t part of his playbook. I suspect he talks in his sleep, sings while he drives, and probably makes a habit of talking with his mouth full.
Heh, you’re probably right, pete.
Heh! SaudiFAUX “News” and inSeannity have a new target. Sesame Street has been deemed part of the vast gay/librul conspiracy. I figure that they are more scared that SS teaches kids things like reading, math, and understanding the actual definitions of words.

I wonder what toys Hannity played with that cause him to turn into a blazing moron?
Hee hee
“I read the posts at TP but I no longer comment.”~Cats
Same here. Tried the login with Hotmail, but was still directed to login with Facebook.
TP has the site it wants. We have the site we want.
Maybe Soros will sell TP to the Koch bros and grab some serious bling out of the deal. Until then, I’ll skim the articles, but gone are the days I could write the equivalant of an instant letter to the editor and have it read by such notables as Billo….not that he ever tried to pronounce my nom de plume on the air!
Zooey — I picture Hannity dresses up in a little man suit — you know the kind that already comes with the tie attached and not wanting to get his hands dirty… OTOH, Hannity probably liked playing with his sister’s play kitchen.
“Weiner should have kept his mouth shut, and let DKos handle the mess!”~ Zooey.
Is this a case of ‘open mouth: insert …..foot’ ?
Heh, I thought someone would run with that one, BnF.
I have been reading Blind Allegiance by Frank Bailey…. I think Palin’s stunt today stepping all over Romney’s speech might be retaliation for the broohaha that has ensued from Romney’s Republican Governor’s Association collaboration with SP (illegally) in a third party ad while she was running for Governor of AK in 2006.
LibertyLover ,
I run two browsers a lot. IE for webstreams, (I’m watching Hartmann on the Big Picture right now), and Chrome for everything else.
I think that inSeannity’s favorite toys were those that hurt. Rocks to throw at handicapped kids and old people and sticks to poke dead animals. Plus, he’s such a pathological liar that I would guess that many of his purposely designed toys were constantly locked away to punish the little monster. A pity it didn’t work.
He probably pulled the wings off of poor innocent bugs, and then blamed them for being unable to fly.
BnF – I have good friend from Ireland and I had a difficult time with your name and getting her to provide the translation.
Hi Everyone!
I’m in my happy place when I come here and see y’all! I tried to at least read some of the TP stuff but frankly I can’t even get into the articles although I know they are still the same writers producing the same quality. And it’s no fun to look at comments when I don’t recognize the authors (okay, I do know some!) and the comments don’t stack appropriately. *sigh*
Pete, I had Martin Bashir on this afternoon (never have TV on during the day but was doing a special mindless project) and he had some StepfordChristian dude on there ranting about the vast leftwing conspiracy that is television and how Sesame Street is some liberal indoctrination show. These nutbags are so scary and yet so hilarious at the same time!
G’night all, and thanks to all for the work you put into making a smart, interesting and friendly place to visit!
Palin on Paul Revere & the 2nd Amendment:
**banging head on desk**
Oh my… Reply buttons!! woohoo!
On Palin— history doesn’t stand a chance with this lady. Reminds me of sometimes when I’m in a museum — natural history — or whatever… and I hear people telling their kids something that is blatantly made up or untrue… makes me twinge. Sometimes I correct them, other times, I just shake my head and walk away.
Sarah could write history texts for the Texas School Board should she lose her job at FAUX.
Thanks for the bedtime laugh, Zooey. I still think Cenk might have the best description of Bible Spice. “She doesn’t know anything about anything”.
The only question remaining is whether she’s a liar, a moron, a psychopath, or some odd blend of the three.
One is tempted to simply get the popcorn ready for when Bible Spice decides to run….. but I bet the Weimar Germans said the same about…. well you know.
And if she doesn’t? Well we’ll always have Michele… and Ricky…. and Newt….
And the rest of the clowns…
Cats, when I visited Ireland I asked a local. She said it would be pronounced
bree-sha na fair-a
(translates to “break of dawn”)
Zooey,
thanks to the Palin & Paul Revere vid.
Looks like Tina Fey could do a whole speil on the ‘Merikan Revultion as could only be ‘spleened by Palin.
“I’m Mitt Romney, I believe in america and I’m running for president”……
….anyone who thinks that angels bury gold plates covered in gobbledegook in hillsides isn’t fit to be president of my son’s kindergarten class.
No fun lurking over at TP anymore. By the tone of the TP related comments here it seems nobody likes the “new and improved version.” I don’t do facebook so I won’t be commenting there anymore. Disqus did kinda suck but it was a heck of a lot better than this new set up. (Do I have to have a facebook account to post?)
With all the complaints about trolls could the new TP be what people were asking for?
The trolls never bothered me much because the replies given by the regular TP posters often contained great information and supplied verbal ammunition for the rightwing fascists I run across in person. I ran into some beauties volunteering for the Kloppenburg recount here in Wisco. Most of Prosser’s vols were from out of state and/or serious teatards. Of all the things I learned about dealing with them the one thing that stands out is that they cannot handle facts. Get past a reichwing talking point and they’re lost sheep. Civility had to be kept but I would have loved to do violence on a few of them as my patience was sometimes confused with pacifism.
Anyway, glad to see most of my favorite posters are here at the Zoo!
Btw- Does that Cletis feller ever visit?
Welcome to the Zoo, Pampero!!
It’s my opinion that TP is going to find itself in the midst of a Huffington Post-style troll shit storm fairly soon. Heh, suck for them.
You don’t have to have a FB account to comment over there. A hotmail or yahoo email works, too. I’ve commented a few times, but it just doesn’t feel the same — the sense of community is severely lacking.
Oops, I haven’t seen Cletis here. But I haven’t seen him on TP either. Probably hanging out at his own blog.
TtT, Mitt’s Mormonism is just Scientology with a 100-year head start!
Zooey and Critters, traffic has certainly picked up here! Is there any way that comments can be commented on here? Just asking…
Thanks Zooey…not sure I’ll be posting there anyway. I feel as you do about it not feeling the same.
Great Palin quote above. I highly doubt she runs but gawd I hope she does. (Head shaking)
Cletis is quite the character and surely is in person. I’ll visit his blog but his TP rants were stellar.
Still in Idaho?
Mom, I’ll turn on the “reply” feature. We’ll see how it works out.
Pampero, still in Idaho. My house is just sitting here, not selling. Grrr…
I know it’s superstition, plain and simple… but you really ought to try burying St. Joseph in your backyard.
Hmmmm, it didn’t do anything. I’ll try again.
Wow, I guess I did it by accident.
Hey, that’s great Zooey! Cool feature and I hope it works out!
G’night all!
My pleasure, Mom.
FYI, y’all: The reply thingy only goes 6 deep right now, but it can go to 10 deep. I just thought 10 deep might get really skinny after a while. If it turns out you want more, just holler.
Idaho can’t be that bad- everyone I’ve met from there have been fantastic people.
Btw- Did you know of Dugout Dick? He’s dead now but a friend of mine used to stay with him quite often…in one of his many caves! Neat guy- among other attributes he made his own wine and sang hobo songs that are lost in antiquity.
I’m just tired of the politics, Pampero. The people I know are great for the most part.
I had never heard of Dugout Dick. Sounds like an interesting guy. The Salmon River is South of where I am. I’ll have to do some reading!
I understand about the politics Zooey. I get a bit tired of it here too sometimes. It’s fairly liberal in the nearest town as Hooda has probably mentioned but I’m kinda in the sticks and it’s republican farmers for the most part. Why these farmers call themselves republicans is still beyond me. Most of them are on “Badger Care” and Walker will be cutting their benefits severely. We’ll see what happens after that.
Gearing up for the coming recall elections. My senator is a dem and the recall petitions against her fell very flat but there is much to do in the areas where the recall elections are occurring. This fight hasn’t been an easy one but I’ve vowed to do all I can to fight Walker and his ilk.
Good luck in finding a buyer for your abode. If you haven’t decided on a new location keep Madison in mind. I think you’d like it there.
Thanks, Pampero. I drove through Madison the summer of 2008, and thought it was a lovely city. I’m trying to get away from snowy winters, so probably not WI.
Funny, farmers are loyal to republicans, but it’s the democrats who make sure they have their health care and farm subsidies. Oh well…
I’m glad you’re working so hard on the WI fight. It’s well worth it, and sets an example for other states experiencing similar problems. On Wisconsin!!
I gotta go to bed. Niters, all.
Idaho?
Like, Live’n in my own private Idaho?

Hey now…
G’night Zooey
(Now you got me singing that Iko-Iko tune- Hey now iko iko all day…)
Hehehehehe…
Ok, so I grew up in the PDX area but my hillbilly cousins (as I’ve usually thought of them) on my Dad’s side, grew up in Sandpoint…and have spent their entire lives floating between Eastern Washington and midish Montana. We’re really never sure where they are at.
Hard hearted bastards – limiting the number who can be assisted in sustenance.
I’m wondering if picnics are allowed in city parks and if a family reunion has more than 25 people are they subject to the same inane ordinance?
Say this reply button comes in quite handy when one doesn’t have an edit feature.
Nice.
