The Watering Hole: July 22 – John Dillinger

On this date in 1934, Federal agents, led by Melvin Purvis, moved in to arrest John Herbert Dillinger Jr. as he left a theater after watching the film Manhattan Melodrama. He pulled a weapon and attempted to flee but was shot three times and killed. Thus ended the career of a criminal who along with his gang robbed a couple dozen banks and four police stations. His first bank robbery was on June 10, 1933.
