In honor of our alternating Music Night DJ, some Pennsylvania doo-wop. The Marcels may have lost that distinctive falsetto, but they still cook pretty well. Happy Birthday, nonewhere.
It doesn’t hurt that this is one of my favorite doo-wop songs of all time.
Well, it’s music to MY ears:
Somebody actually said doo-wop?
Duprees – You Belong To Me
Crew Cuts – Sh-Boom Life Could Be A Dream
Sh-boom, sh-boom… good choices.
Back in the 80′s these guys would come to the Grand Theater every year and put on one of the most awesome shows I have every been to. (They did a version of Imagine that was to die for but I can’t find it anywhere)
The Nylons-Up on the Roof
It’s possible they never recorded it. I can’t find any listing that shows it.
I’ve come to that conclusion as well. Pity because it would bring tears to the eyes of a statue.
Lou Christie – Since I Don’t Have You
Wow. Great song and a fantastic arrangement.
A Very Happy Birthday to nonewhere!

I should add, her husband Gerry Goffin co-wrote it.
I remember when I loved those guys. Haven’t heard anything about them for years.
Saw em live in 1990 – Cincinnati… backing up these dudes

Shots fired into the Obama headquarters in Denver. Cops have a description of a suspect.
When things like this happen, I like to try to take the perspective of one of Heinlein’s Fair Witnesses. A bullet struck the front window of an occupied office of the Obama campaign in Denver. The police have a description of a person, possibly a suspect, seen driving by at the time the shot was fired. Until more details are released by the police, I won’t assume a motive or even an intention. For all we know, the idiot forgot to take the bullet out of the magazine, put it up on his truck’s gun rack, hit a bump or pothole in the road, the gun goes off, oh, shit! did I forget to check the mag?, I gotta get the fuck outta here!
I’m open-minded in a weird way like that. If I can see a plausible reason why there might not have been intent to do harm involved, then I’ll hold open the possibility that this is what could have happened here. And I acknowledge that I may quickly be proven wrong (probably in reply to this comment).

Songifying the debate:
Clever.
Slow, low, smokey…
I love Ray Lamontagne.
The words to this song are absolutely beautiful. Tonight I had the privilege of sitting at a table with a couple that are married 70 years. They are both 92 years old and they are so caring and kind to each other. There was a lot to learn about life and love and caring for another person from them. They certainly are sheltering each other.
For them…
Nice.
Sorry we weren’t here earlier. We just got back from the “Harvest Moon” dinner which was held at the place where nonewhere works. What a pleasant surprise.
Thank you all for the well wishes. Made the day special.!
Happy Birthday, Nonewhere! I was off in Charlotte, watchin’ Danica! (She finished 11th.)
