Ali Velshi wants you to believe that an 84 year old woman waiting tables is “lucky.” At her age it’s great for her to be standing on her feet all day, carrying heavy trays, and dealing with the public. Just what you envision when you are that age, right? I’m thinkin’ no. At that age, the hardest thing I want to be contemplating is gardening and where to go on my next vacation.
The quake hit about 70 miles northeast of Rome.
A powerful earthquake left more than 90 dead in central Italy Monday as rescuers scrambled to save people trapped under rubble in cities and remote mountain villages across the region, according to news reports.
Rescuers said the death toll stood at 92 Monday afternoon, 11 hours after the earthquake struck near L’Aquila, a city of 70,000 east of Rome, the Italian news agency Ansa reported.
Rescue workers said the toll was likely to rise further as teams work to recover more bodies.
As many as 15,000 buildings were destroyed across the region, leaving thousands homeless, news reports said. Rescuers continue to comb the rubble.
My condolences to the families and friends of those killed and injured, and to the people of Italy.

According to a new Gallup Poll, Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents most would like to see Sarah Palin run for president in 2012. That’s right…Sarah “I read all the newspapers,” Palin. Former mayor of Wasilla, first-term governor of Alaska and hockey mom. Her interviews with Katie Couric are the stuff of legend. After she and McCain got their clocks cleaned, Governor Palin couldn’t get enough of the TV cameras. They were in her kitchen, her office, virtually every corner of her life. She is now reportedly being wooed to write a book-that would be interesting-or maybe do a TV show.
Here are some of the responses Jack received on his blog, they are really funny:
Did I hear you say Palin is writing a book? How is that possible when I’ve yet to hear her complete a proper sentence? Shouldn’t she try reading one first?
