Head of Justice Department’s civil division resigns

U.S. Assistant Attorney General Peter D. Keisler, who oversaw the Bush administration’s lengthy legal fight over the rights of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, announced his resignation Thursday as head of the Justice Department’s civil division.

This is the guy who doesn’t like habeas corpus.

  1. They sure are jumpin’ ship here lately, wonder why. Could we be getting closer to ‘every man for himself’ time?

  2. If this guy’s nomination to the “U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit” is still pending, then I would watch Harri Reid carefully. Make sure he doesn’t agree to let this nomination go through under a “unanimous consent” agreement, just to stop Bush from having his way on something else.

Politics is not always about compromise, especially when one side has insisted that it have its own way each and every time (Bush, I’m looking in your direction here). Sometimes you have to say “Screw compromise!” and just wrest control back from the other side. Senate Democrats have “compromised” way too much already.
