Students Harassed for Wearing Peace Shirts

From, via RawStory:

A group of students at Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High have started wearing Peace Shirts, and the response to said shirt wearing has been less than polite…

“People just turned on us like that,” [Lauren Lorraine] said.  “At least 10 boys stood up and yelled things at me at once, and we couldn’t even walk through the halls without a harsh comment being made.”

A second group of students decided to show their intelligence by wearing Confederate flag shirts, in opposition to the Peace Shirt group.

Soon, a second group started to wear Confederate flag shirts to oppose the peace group, Skylar said.  She saw shirts with sayings such as “This is America, get used to it,” and “If peace is the answer, it must be a stupid question.”

Well….I guess the Chimperor knows where to find his newest batch of recruits.  Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High.

  1. Great article, Zooey. Thanks. Before I head out the door to go to work (arghhh! why can’t I be a spoiled rich boy like the president, only smarter and better-looking?), I have to say a couple of things. From the article:

“…the Confederate shirts they wear express support for the troops in Iraq, and nothing more”

Could one of the faculty or administrators from Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High (wasn’t that the one in Porky’s?) please explain to me how wearing the flag of the army that inflicted the greatest number of casualties on American soldiers (Union Army) is “supporting the troops”? Perhaps these un-American idiots should wear t-shirts that say, “If peace is the answer, I must be too stupid to take the test.”

Can we cut off federal funding for these kids’ educations? They obviously don’t support the government that gave it to them, they support its enemies.

Peace to all of you, my friends. Don’t listen to any of the idiots in the world, peace really is the answer. Have a great day.

  2. I find it appalling that the school is not doing anything to protect these children. If they do not do something and take a stand, this confrontation is going to get worse. (did you read the comments from one of the opposition?) Seriously the school is dropping the ball on this one. Not letting them form a group…letting other students get away with posting hate …letting other students do things to their lockers without their permission…etc. These girls were following the rules and the school is enabling the hate speech, posters, actions. This whole thing makes me sick.
