John Edwards to Quit Presidential Race

via: AP

Democrat John Edwards is exiting the presidential race Wednesday, ending a scrappy underdog bid in which he steered his rivals toward progressive ideals while grappling with family hardship that roused voter’s sympathies but never diverted his campaign, The Associated Press has learned.

The two-time White House candidate notified a close circle of senior advisers that he planned to make the announcement at a 1 p.m. EST event in New Orleans that had been billed as a speech on poverty, according to two of his advisers. The decision came after Edwards lost the four states to hold nominating contests so far to rivals who stole the spotlight from the beginning – Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.

  1. I am sorry to hear it, but I expected that. I hope he re-enters as Attorney General. And I hope he endorses Barack Obama, not the Bill-wife.

  2. I had still planned to go to my first caucus since he was running…Was going to push for him since he was the only non corprate funded runner….Was even thinking maybe I might vote for him, alway’s liked him even though he was not my first choice…Well now this old woman is back to square one…Not going and back to write in of my guy Kucinich…

With a more than year long campaign and many states ahead of mine along with all the good guy’s being dumped or haveing to bail ten month’s before the election I am wondering if lot’s of voter’s are thinking like I do…Screw it…This kind of crap is why all my neighbor’s don’t vote….We need to over haul our entire system….Just like impeachment, not gonna happen as long as we have so many blood sucker’s on all sides calling the shot’s…..Blessings….

  3. Meanwhile, Clinton is proclaiming a “victory” in Florida, even though no one was running against her. And her campaign has every intention of trying to get the Michigan and Florida delegates certified at the convention, even though she signed a pledge that decertified them in the first place. The media is playing along, of course, with headlines about “McCain and Clinton” winning in Florida.

She’s not only tremendously dishonest but is demonstrating her contempt for the intelligence of American voters. “Wow, Hillary won another state! She’s much more electable than Obama.” Bollocks.

  4. I really detest her guts. But it is a sign that she is desperate, too. But what you don’t need in your WH is a desperate housewife with a blatant disregard of whatever she signed or said yesterday. That’s the drunk’s domain, I mean the one you already have there.

I am still waiting for Edwards to show his true colours. If he endorses Clinton…

  5. Good Morning EV, good to read you here…..I’m going on a tear today…..First have to call my rep. Larsen and plead with him to stop the aerial shooting of wolve’s and then plan to crap on a bunch of other polatician’s parade’s……After that gonna hug some tree’s, feed the bird’s and ignore the damn media……LOL…Hope all is well for you…Blessings

  6. I heard on the radio yesterday that Hillary was trying to demand the delegates from Florida and Michigan be awarded to her, even though democrats agreed beforehand that they would not campaign in those states.
Ridiculous. You can’t change the rules in your favor in the middle of the game.

  7. I can’t imagine he would endorse Hillary. He would lose all credibility at that point. She represents the system and corporate America. I don’t care what she says in her campaign speeches. He is supposed to be against that.
If he endorses Obama, that could be huge.
This is making me very sad. We are down to the two candidates I liked the least. Damn..

  8. Edwards was deselected by the corporate media. How many of the nation’s primary voters have had any choice in their candidate? 5%, less?

The media and the corporations are also going to select your president (see New Hampshire electoral anomalies I posted yesterday).

Revolution. That’s all that is left.

  9. nwmuse, sad huh,…..This is the worst….I don’t remember it ever going this way….My state’s caca (shit) on purpose, is the 9th….Then we have our primary vote on the 19th…Hay, but there’s already no one to vote for….All I can do and had planned to do is write in…I had wavered last week and planned to go and support Edward’s cause he was the only non corprate honest person left……Now am back to square one….The sick thing is many will not vote at all, lot’s of voter’s are going to do what all my neighbor’s have done for year’s….They are all off the roll’s with the attitude they don’t count and can’t change anything….Many are sick of all this long drawn out media blitz about an election ten month’s from now…..It’s over before it had a chance to start…I will not vote for Hillery or Obama..They both are disqualified to me because of the war, corprate backer’s and neither will hold the guilty responsible for their crmes…November is going to be interesting but I doubt pleasent… Blessings

  10. I really think the primary, as in the general election, should be voted on the SAME day for all the states – in order that EVERYONE gets to vote for their candidate of choice while they are still running. It isn’t fair that some states knock out most of the candidates before the rest of us get a chance to vote our choice.
    It stinks. Its not fair.

  11. How sad. Not much left, is there. So now we have Clinton and Obama. All the best candidates are out of the race because the media wanted them out and the corporations were not going to finance their campaigns. This tells you something about the remaining candidates. Yawn, boring all over again. Should I just close my eyes and push a button and see what happens?

  12. I’ve long since resigned myself to not getting a McGovern to, er, govern. Although I was supportive of Edwards, his doom was pretty well sealed by a lack of decent press (“oooh, the hair!”) and a lack of funding (“give the money to hillary!”). I’m not ready to give up on Obama, even though he isn’t McGovern (or Kucinich or Edwards or even Gore2008). The way things are going, maybe the May primary in Oregon will actually mean something.

Well, probably not, but I can dream.

  13. Interesting note, Hillery speaking out all over the place about her phone call with Edward’s and Obama’s silent….Just over my local new’s that Cantwell and Murrey, my senator’s are backing Hillery….We haven’t had a caca (shit) yet, or have we?…We don’t vote untill the 19th…Seems to me this is one huge hump day, Wed. and were the one’s they are trying to hump…..I’m gonna go hug the trees and feed the bird’s, to hell with them all….Blessings

  14. I am so fecking tired of Iowa and New Hampshire gomers chosing who I get to vote for for President. If Oregon or Washington were first in the primaries the only canditates remaining would be Kucinich and Edwards.
