Delaney and Bonnie

One LP I wore out in 1969 was this one. Delaney and Bonnie had been cranking out some brilliant and funky music opening for Blind Faith’s tour and when that ended, Eric Clapton joined them on tour, working essentially as a sideman. This is a really good video, from a BBC performance.

  1. Ooooooooooo… thas nice…

Isn’t that Bobby Whitlock to the right of Bonnie?

This is my favorite era of American pop music, the late 60’s. And yes, that does look like Dave Mason up there, playing a National Steel guitar no less.

I read a story one time that Jerry Wexler, the Atlantic Records exec, told about having Duane Allman and Delaney Bramlett playing acoustic blues duets on his back porch in the evening, looking out over Long Island Sound. Wexler said it was the best music he ever heard in his life. Easy to believe that one.

Anyone ever see “Tom Dowd and the Language of Music”??? A rather choice documentary about the life and career of Tom Dowd, the 3rd major figure behind Atlantic (along w/ Wexler and Ertegun) in the label’s glory days, when they were recording everyone from Eric Clapton to Aretha Franklin and back again. IF you HAVEN’T seen it, take the time to look it up. It is ever so tasty…
