Palin’s Assemblies of God

As we reported the other day, Sarah Palin has her own pastor problems. But what of her Assemblies of God church? Here is more information about that church (not the most professional production, but the point is well made).

Why is the media not all over that? We heard nothing but 24/7 for how many weeks concerning Reverand Wright. Yet, there is nothing about this church that has radical, to say the least, ideas of God and state.

Steve Benen, The Political Animal at Washington Monthly wrote a post about how Palin was elected as Mayor of Wasilla in 1996:

“Sarah comes in with all this ideological stuff, and I was like, ‘Whoa,’ ” said Mr. Stein, who lost the election. “But that got her elected: abortion, gun rights, term limits and the religious born-again thing. I’m not a churchgoing guy, and that was another issue: ‘We will have our first Christian mayor.’ “

“I thought: ‘Holy cow, what’s happening here? Does that mean she thinks I’m Jewish or Islamic?’ ” recalled Mr. Stein, who was raised Lutheran, and later went to work as the administrator for the city of Sitka in southeast Alaska. “The point was that she was a born-again Christian.”

She tried to ban books from the library which didn’t sit well with her ideological and religious beliefs, a flap which led to her almost being recalled as Wasilla mayor.

And what do we hear of this? **CRICKETS**

Way to go, media. Nothing like some substance to your reporting. Baby-gate has all the salaciousness the mass media desires, but when it comes to real issues, they are still. Keep keeping is ill-informed. Heck of a job.

Let me ask you:

Is this what YOU want in your political discourse?

Is this the America YOU envision?

Are these YOUR values?

I can honestly say, they are not MINE.

  1. This is one scary person, no matter whether her sexual organs are interior or exterior.

And the media has fallen into the trap that they don’t want to reveal just how truly unqualified and dangerous this woman is because they don’t want to seem ‘sexist’. In the same way they seem to justify not coming down hard on McCain and not seem ‘ageist’ or anti-veteran (because, I don’t know if you know that, but McCain was a POW).

It’s really not Republicans vs. Democrats anymore. It’s all about the media and their corporate puppetmasters who just want to preserve the status quo. And, it is up to all of us to remind the media of its awesome responsibility, no matter who wins the next election.

  2. I wonder if Palin is a charter member of the conservative group Families for Friendly Libraries. They are the group that has been trying to ban Harry Potter Books everywhere. They say that the books promote, Evil, Wiccans, and witchcraft. One crazy member said that if they didn’t ban the books “there would be more school shootings”.

It was great, I’m pretty sure it was a principal at one of the schools, he told them if we ban Harry Potter Books, Sleeping Beauty and Alice in Wonderland have to go also. That ended that discussion.

  3. Great post, MsJ.

The assault of the religious freaks on our civil liberties is not new. I recall it being projected loudly by Pat Buchanan at the GOP convention, when… maybe 16 years ago… when he gave his “culture war” speech.

The religious right have been mounting an aggressive, largely covert war against the rest of us for a very long time, and we’ve been afraid to fight back because it is somehow unsavory to fight against those who wear religion on their sleeves. Religion always gets a free pass in the US for some odd reason.

The first real frontal attack was with Pat Robertson running for president. They learned from that catastrophe, and began a long-term strategy of attacking the secular from the grass roots – local school boards, local elective offices, local judges, and gradually up the chain until they reached the climax by taking the presidency, both houses of Congress (until two years ago), an increasing percentage of the Supreme Court, and thanks to Bush, controlling positions throughout the justice department and every other appointed position in government.

It has been successful because it has been mostly by stealth and by acquiescence of nearly all politicians (even Obama – he wears his religion somewhat on his sleeve too, but he’s no theocrat).

They must be stopped. Going overt with Palin may finally wake people up enough to allow us to drag this fetid unholy monster into the sunlight where it can be finally staked in the heart and decapitated.
