McCain on Palin and War: YES!

Last night on 60 Minutes, John McCain asked if Sarah Palin is ready to be President of the United States. While McCain repeatedly says “Absolutely” he continuously shakes his head in the negative. How can your words say yes while your body language screams NO? Where are those “body language experts” now?

He also says he will continue the Bush Doctrine in starting preemptive wars with good intelligence and if we were absolutely certain of the threat. Well, that’s heartening to know. And about war with Russia? That depends on their behavior. Which is nothing at all like our behavior. I’d like to ask the Senator: How did all that Iraqi intelligence work out for us? Wasn’t it considered good intel? And how’s that Iraq/Afghanistan thing working out for us? Oh, right. In both cases, not so well.

Watch the clip.

  1. Thanks for posting this, MsJ. I’m glad that you noticed that head shaking, too. It was obvious to me that McCain has doubts about Palin. As someone that spent a good part of their career as a Psychiatric Nurse, I know that body language tells the truth about what a person is really thinking and feeling. Words are just words. Our bodies don’t lie. When doing group therapy, we always used the person’s body language to question what was really going on inside someone’s head and heart.

  2. MsJoanne, the Bush Doctrine is about “preventative war” , not “preemptive war”. The difference is that in preemptive the threat is mobilized and on its way, in preventative, the threat is in the minds of the wager, and on Fox News in those taglines with question marks at the end (e.g. “Will Iran use it’s nuke when it gets one?”)

  3. I love how he says that the people are vetting Palin now and loving her…funny that since she is repeating the same speech, verbatim, at every stop on their campaign trail…no questions, nothing unscripted.

Oh, and as a reminder, Senator McConfused, SPAIN is an ally.

And let’s talk a little more of what being a president is all about – holding the dogtags of a dead soldier? THAT is what you think being a president is all about?

Honestly, every interview this man gives further and further disqualifies him from high office. Hell, he shouldn’t even be a Senator.

  4. ThbT, this is from Wikipedia:

Preemptive strikes against potential enemies of the United States

President Bush addressed the cadets at West Point June 1, 2002, and made clear the role preventive war would play in the future of American foreign policy and national defense:[14]
“ We cannot defend America and our friends by hoping for the best. We cannot put our faith in the word of tyrants, who solemnly sign non-proliferation treaties, and then systemically break them. If we wait for threats to fully materialize, we will have waited too long – Our security will require transforming the military you will lead — a military that must be ready to strike at a moment’s notice in any dark corner of the world. And our security will require all Americans to be forward-looking and resolute, to be ready for preemptive action when necessary to defend our liberty and to defend our lives.

I don’t care if it is called preemptive or preventative…a preemptive action (as Bush said) is, to me, preemptive war.

And in the case of Iraq, it was a preemptive war based on lies…to me THAT is the Bush Doctrine: attack and invade whomever the hell you want to based upon manufactured data.
