Blinded By The Right

Painful as it is to admit, we got duped.

Blinded By The Right
Original Words and Music “Blinded by The Light” by Bruce Springsteen, 1973
Additional Lyrics by Wayne A. Schneider, 2008

Madman Georgie-Porgy and contractors in an orgy, well he ain’t no diplomat
On the outs with his bouts as the alcoholic doubts his way is where it’s at
With the story of his glory feelin’ kinda gory I skipped the Sunday-go-round
With this very unnerving curving and swerving the calamity crashed to the ground.
Some half-hot all-snot was talkin’ up the hot spot, pointin’ his fingers, joinin’ his man
And some Bush-bot mascot was tied into a legal knot with his what-not in his hand
And then poor Scott, put on the spot, falsely told a bunch of rot and boned our soldiers in the sand
And some bloodshot drunken sot whispers Pappy’s within earshot, save the buckshot, don’t play your hand

Yes, we were blinded by the right,
Oh, got juiced by a ruse, another rumor in the night
Blinded by the right,
We got down but we never lost sight, but we’ll make it alright

Some mind-blown neo-clone, anti-postpone overblown leeches from the East
Had said, “Dethrone the drilling drone, hit him in his power zone, that’s where he’ll expect it least”
And some home-grown saxaphone playin’ in the corner all alone, watching reporters dance.
‘Cause some smug-prone bluestone was messin’ with his funny bone to remind him don’t be leavin’ this to chance

Yeah, we were blinded by the right
Oh, got juiced by a ruse, another rumor in the night
Blinded by the right
We got down but we never lost sight, but we’re gonna make it tonight

Some bellicose bastard with a sinister sister told me he caught some mistakes
He said, “I’ll tell you now sonny there’s something wrong if you say the cause was the funky cake.”
And blowhard pro-wars were fakin’ out the intel parts to say that it was safe to go inside
And Little Karly-Warly had some tips so snarly-gnarly, and helped ’em when they needed a lie
Oh, some lizard with gizzard was skunked on beer playin’ wizard puppeteer
Yes and Scotland Yard was trying hard, they sent some dude with a P.M. card. He said, “Do what you like, and we’ll back you here.”
Well I jumped up, turned around, spit in his face, made a loud sound, asked him which was the way back home
He said that it’s right for this fight, keep warrin’ straight ’til oh-nine and then, boy, you’re on your own
Now back in Hyde Park a risin’ star was ridin’ in a peace car hummin’ a diff’rent tune
Yes, and the avatar said push the war but first remove the doubting part we’re gonna teach those guys to yell too soon
And President Handicap was complainin’ that he bought the crap ’bout some claptrap he sought last night
Well I unsnapped his skull cap and between his ears I saw a gap and figured that’d be ’bout right

We were just blinded by the right
Got juiced by a ruse, another rumor in the night
Blinded by the right
Mama always told me not to look into the words of The Man
Oh, but mama that’s where the lie is

We were blinded (we were blinded)…(repeat and fade)

  1. For the record, I’m still convinced by my teenage interpretation that Manfred Mann sang “wrapped up like a douche”. 😀

  2. Thank you, everyone. Gorn, Manfred Mann kind of did their own “interpretation” of the song, and the way they harmonized it, they basically made it their own. I felt it only right to do the version of the original genius author, Bruce Springsteen. 🙂

I’m glad you like it. It took some doing, but I managed to come up with some lines I liked. Thank you again. 🙂
