Global Warming Melts Frosty the Snowman

Climate change policy will be on the agenda for the 111th Congress when it reconvenes in January 2009.  Global warming will be “front and center” according to Senator John Kerry who will lead the Senate delegation to the United Nations climate talks scheduled to occur in Poznam, Poland in 2009.

Climate change policy will get a boost next year from the fact that some of the most senior members of the Obama administration have focused on the issue during their careers, Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) told reporters today.

Kerry, who will chair the Senate Foreign Relations Committee next Congress, said he expected Vice President-elect Joe Biden and Sen. Hillary Clinton — who is expected to be named secretary of state — will both use their new roles to promote a global pact curbing greenhouse gases.

“Both will be exceedingly helpful and important in this effort,” Kerry said during the telephone news conference.

Let’s do what we can do to slow down global warming and save Frosty the Snowman along with the polar bears and other creatures both large and small that depend on a colder climate to survive.  And let us not forget about the vegetation that needs cold temperatures in order for their seeds to germinate.

Dick Cheney’s Organized Crime Indictment Evidence

Vice-President Cheney’s financial records could be used to prove that he is engaged in criminal activity.  Gregorio De La Rosa, Jr., was killed by fellow inmates in one of the prisons Vanguard helped finance in 2001.

Willacy County District Attorney Juan Angel Guerra said elected officials let the jail get away with murder so that they could keep making money.   “Greed will get you discovered … every time, and that’s what happened to Cheney.” Dick Cheney owns shares in the Vanguard Group, an investment company that helps finance prison companies. Guerra estimates those shares are worth $85 million.

Cheney put a stop to the investigation in 2006, into the death and the investigation of Gregorio De La Rosa Jr.

UFCW Local 1500 Responds To Death of Wal-Mart Worker

The Local Union has issued a press release in response to the death of a Long-Island Wal-Mart worker.  They are demanding Federal Safety Agency and Nassau County Prosecutor investigate this incident.

United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1500, New York State’s largest grocery workers Union, has called for an immediate investigation by Federal, State and Local authorities into the “avoidable” death of a Wal-mart worker at the Valley Stream, Long Island Wal-mart. Specifically, the Union has called on the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the New York State Department of Labor and the Nassau County Prosecutor to investigate Wal-mart’s failure to provide a safe workplace.

“This incident was avoidable,” said Bruce Both, President of United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1500. “Where were the safety barriers? Where was security? How did store management not see dangerous numbers of customers barreling down on the store in such an unsafe manner?” asked President Both. “This is not just tragic; it rises to a level of blatant irresponsibility by Wal-mart. UFCW Local 1500 will demand a full investigation by all levels of Government to ensure both justice for the surviving family members and to ensure the safety of current employees and the general public. This can never be allowed to happen again and those responsible must be held accountable,” Both concluded.
