Senate Conservatives were totally blindsided by a minor provision in the Stimulus Plan. Cash for Clunkers is immensely popular amongst their constituents and they are left with the choice of either continuing the program or letting it expire immediately before their August break. If they fail to continue the program, they run the risk of voter revolt; on the other hand, they could lose millions in campaign funds from the petroleum industry. Their only concern at the moment is who has the longest memories. Senate Conservatives are passing gas as of this writing.
