Arizona artists told to repaint mural to be less ethnic

Raw Story:

The leader of a group of artists says he was ordered to lighten the skin tones of children depicted in an outdoor mural covering two walls of a Prescott, Arizona elementary school because of complaints that the faces appeared too ethnic.

Read on…

Honestly.. I feel like I am living in the Twilight Zone..

UPDATE: The elementary school in Arizona has backed down. They will NOT be lightening those skin tones after all..

Good news. The gutless, carbound racists lost, and the mural is being restored to its “original theme.” Jeff Lane, the principal of Miller Valley Elementary School, and Kevin Kapp, the school superintendent, showed up at a protest today to apologize for giving in to whims of mentally deranged adults, spewing racial epithets at a painting.

  1. At least in the twilight zone, those who committed such horrific immorality (as those who ordered it repainted) met some sort of ironic fate that served as justice.

What we’re seeing these days are folks (such as those who ordered it repainted) who never suffer any repercussions for their egregious behavior.

  2. City Councilman Blair:

“I’m not a racist by any stretch of the imagination, but whenever people start talking about diversity, it’s a word I can’t stand.”

“What these people don’t like is somebody forcing diversity down their throats.”

This moron would be terrified to learn that diversity is much more than RACE, because then he would realize even more things will be “forced down [his] throat.”

    • Raw Story updated this story: Blair has been fired from his radio job for his remarks.

Prescott eNews is reporting that Steve Blair has been fired from his talk show with radio station KYCA because the mural issue has become “a full blown controversy, with statewide and even national media paying attention.”

The website added that “when asked if he would resign as a member of the Prescott City Council, Blair replied, ‘When my constituents in the city tell me it’s time for me to go, and that I’m affecting how the city does its business, I will go. I ran because I wanted to help. If I can no longer do that, I’ll step down.'”

Mark that in the win column.

People of Prescott, let Blair know he’s not “helping.”

  3. BTW, that is a gorgeous mural. Check out the photo link in the Raw Story article.

I noticed that a man in the parade was wearing a kilt, and a woman was wearing an embroidered outfit that looked German or Russian. Were they forced to strip down? Or is it okay to be ethnic if you’re white?
