The Watering Hole: May 17 – I’ve got the Power!!!!

What is it with powerful men? From “ius primae noctis” to the likes of Silvio Berlusconi, Moshe Katzav, Vladimir Putin to (allegedly) Dominique Strauss Kahn, women are just another commodity, they can take advantage of. Like everything else. Just to think, they think they’ll get away with it.

And now the DSK case is sending shockwaves through the financial markets, because all those powerful people have messed up things really bad. This, however, they will get away with.

This is our open thread. Feel free to comment on this and anyhing else that’s on your mind and have a wonderful day!

  1. Good morning EV, everyone.

Heard this on Bill Press this morning. Scientists believe they have a blood test that can predict how long you will live. It’s based upon measuring the length of telomeres. It doesn’t give a “to-the-day” figure, but can give a rough figure. Assuming natural causes, of course.

It will be available in the UK soon, and is fairly pricey.

    Would you want to know?

    More info here.

  2. In reference to these powerful men being undone by their libidos, Ellen Ratner just quoted Thom Hartmann as saying:
Ellen, you just have to understand that most men are dogs!

Chris Rock said on one of his HBO specials: A man is only as faithful as his options.

  3. And OBL (and any other culture that supports mysogynist bigamy – that includes your made-up cult too Mitt).

Meanwhile from the files of “this should piss you off” – email from my ‘bud’ on the North Slope…… BP will be deducting the Gulf spill bailout fund as a ‘business expense’…. which means that $20B cleanup in escrow – we’re paying 29% of it, I think.

  4. zxbe, I don’t. My life is so predictable, I need at least one surprise left 😀

memo to self: don’t buy BP stuff. Ever. Again.

  5. Woot. I got a featured comment, on the Newt Blaming the Liberal Media thread. 🙂

EV, I hear ya. I’m not sure I’d want to know. Short of some terminal disease where the window is pretty short; the rest of it will just happen whenever.

  6. Doh, I hit “post” too soon.

One of the things they mentioned on the radio as well with this is concern of how the insurance companies will use this against us.

    • Good morning, all! Getting ready to hit the road back to Moscow.

I can’t believe Arnold humiliated Maria like that. I hope she kicked his nads up into his throat.

  7. About Ahhnold’s canoodling, I may have some insight on this since Badmooddaughter went to high school with Ahhnie’s son and spent some time over at his house 10-12 years ago. Stay tuned…

  8. Hi Zooey, or rather “Salve Magistra” I missed your graduation party 😦

Arnold is proof that all those steroids and stuff don’t hurt all that much. He has that Irish Kennedy bunch on his heels now. If they are worth their salt, they’ll have him by his – you named it.

  9. Good morning! Drive safe Zooey.
    Today is son’s 12th birthday.
These men act like pigs, and you wouldn’t believe how a boar acts when all the sows are unwilling.

  10. Quote of the Day:

“I’m not a meteorologist. All I know is 90 percent of the scientists say climate change is occurring. If 90 percent of the oncological community said something was causing cancer we’d listen to them,” – Jon Huntsman, in Time Magazine.

    Q&A: Jon Huntsman

  11. In all fairness there are plenty of women out there who are as untrustworthy as men. As Chris Rock also said when a man sees his friend with a really nice woman he thinks to himself I’ve got to get a woman LIKE that. When a woman sees her friend out with a good guy she thinks to herself I’ve got to get HIM.

  12. Exploding Watermelons Put Spotlight on Chinese Farming Practices

Fields of watermelons exploded when he and other agricultural workers in eastern China mistakenly applied forchlorfenuron, a growth accelerator. The incident has become a focus of a Chinese media drive to expose the lax farming practices, shortcuts and excessive use of fertiliser behind a rash of food safety scandals.

This statement disturbs me the most:

Many farmers grow their own food separately from the chemically-raised crops they sell. “I feel there is nothing safe I can eat now because people are in too much of a hurry to make money,” said Huang Zhanliang, a farmer in Hebei.

If they won’t eat the crops they sell, how can we allow any edibles to be imported from China, even raw materials like wheat gluten, which was found to contain melamine to make it test higher for protein content?

  13. I just turned a job down that would have me working in China and interfacing with Chinese manufacturing….. yep those factories that make those tiny electronics and stuff. Ever wonder whose hands are small enough to fit those things together?

No China for me, ever again. I went 3 times, saw enough.

  14. Maybe Newt is the shiny object to distract the press until Jeb Bush declares and everyone sighs “That’s a relief, Jeb’s going to save us”.

  15. I figure that Jeb will be the selection by the process 0of elimination.

He shares one trait with his brother – he ignored the Florida Constitution while governor.

Why would he do different with the US Constitution as President.

  16. “Newt Plays The Palin Card”

    From TPM:

“Newt Gingrich is now explaining to conservative bloggers that he didn’t go into his Meet the Press interview Sunday prepared for the grilling he would get from that notorious attack dog David Gregory. Because, you know, Newt just isn’t that experienced with TV interviews.

We just confirmed with NBC that Sunday’s was Newt’s 35th appearance on MTP.”

  17. lol @ “notorious attack dog David Gregory.”

If Newt couldn’t handle David Gregory, then he simply doesn’t have what it takes to be president.

    • Just popping my head in real quick because I am so mad.. I was in the middle of some work when the phone rings. I pick it up and it is somebody saying please hold for a message from “Dick Morris”. Bleeping, toe-sucking pervert Dick Morris! I almost hung up but wanted to hear what he had to say. It was about a 2-3 message about the fight against that Socialist Liberal Obama who has taken over our government with his Socialist agenda, blah, blah, blah.., (also throws in a message to all the Teapartiers like he’s one of them), lumps in Obama with BIll Clinton, and then puts in a plug for his new book. Then he says to hold to be sent back to the Republican phone bank person. She gets back on the line and says “Did you hear the message from Dick Morris?” I I then politely say “Yes I did, and Dick Morris can stick it up his ass” and hang up. Dick-freaking-Morris??!! Like that guy has ANY credibility on the planet? And they interrupted my rehearsing for that? I had to stop and write it down. I still can’t believe what I just heard..

  18. Quote of the Day II:

“[E]verything I’ve read shows that we would not have gotten this information as to who this man was if it had not been gotten information from people who were subject to enhanced interrogation. And so this idea that we didn’t ask that question while Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was being waterboarded, [John McCain] doesn’t understand how enhanced interrogation works. I mean, you break somebody, and after they’re broken, they become cooperative,” – Rick Santorum, on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show.

Santorum has a reading comprehension issue. But how about this beaut:

“[John McCain] doesn’t understand how enhanced interrogation works.”

    Srsly, Ricky?

  19. You know we can (and do) certainly disagree with John McCain on just about every issue.

But when it comes to torture, he’s very unambiguous about it. It’s wrong. It’s immoral. And at the end of the day, we can never take away from John McCain that he did in fact serve this nation in the military. And he was brutally tortured by the enemy during that service.

Torture is something our enemies do. Not us. Well at least not until Bush came along.

  20. Torture is something our enemies do. Not us. Well at least not until Bush came along.

I always maintained that Bush was our enemy, still do. Half my extended family won’t talk to me anymore in result, but oh well.

  21. I need to comment on the Dominique a$$hole. misogynist etc.
I doubt he can get it up – so he forces her to give him a BJ. sick fuk. too bad she didn’t use her teeth.
    ok I am done.

  22. (applause) great comment crypto!

    ———

Arnold has hurt his family beyond measure.
Their son Patrick has started using Shriver as his surname – at least on

    twitter

  23. Arnold has hurt his family beyond measure.

Nah, they’ll get past it, but you know who REALLY got hurt? Who was it — because of Ahhnold — who wanted to amend the constitution to allow foreign born citizens to run for president? That old tough guy, Orrin Hatch. Poor Orrin must be just devastated.

  24. I’d forgotten poor Orrin’s love of the Arnold.

Arnie has hurt his family – yes, they’ll get over it. All the apologizing he’s done is so flat – must admit never liked the guy – actor, man or governor.

  25. Republicans Filibuster Bill To Repeal Oil Subsidies

As expected, a Democratic bill that would have stripped big oil companies of multi-billion annual tax subsidies failed to overcome a Republican filibuster Tuesday evening. The heavily partisan 52-48 vote fell well short of the 60 required to achieve cloture. Three Democrats — Sens. Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Mark Begich (D-AK), and Ben Nelson (D-NE) — voted with Republicans to maintain the subsidies. Sens. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) voted with the Democrats.

  26. the Governator – another egomaniac. gee, doesn’t he know the possible results of unprotected sex? of course he does. just another way to show his (supposed) male abilities………just sayin’
I did not vote for him (nor ANY Repug……) and DID for Jerry Brown.

  27. I have to admit, Ahnald spoke at a conference I attended back in the early 90’s in SF, and was passionate about our cause, physical education in our schools. For what it’s worth ~

  28. I need to comment on the Dominique a$$hole. misogynist etc.

I don’t. I feel this is like the rush to judgment during the fog of war. “A firefight with bin Laden!” Ehh, not so much. The facts will come out.

  29. How can you be more confused without operating from a misconception? You’re still at the fork in the road. I’m ten miles up the wrong way! 😀

  30. Lass – the other “candidate” was Whitman. they loved her where I live. this county overwhelmingly voted for her. And then we have our district 49 ISSA. Don’t get me going on HIM…….
So, how did NH like Ron Paul?

  31. The end-of-the-world FAQ sheet

Q: If I’m Raptured, what will happen to my pets?
A: Probably nothing good. However, a business called Eternal Earthbound Pets run by “confirmed atheists” offers to save pets left behind and ensure their care in 26 states. It lists a fee of $135 for a single pet ($20 each for additional pets), but has raised rates due to “increased activity associated with the May 21, 2011 Rapture.” Pets are limited to dogs, cats, birds rabbits and small caged mammals in most states. Four states can accommodate horses, camels, llamas and donkeys.

Q: Are exploding watermelons in China a sign?
    A: Yes.

  32. Eternal Earthbound Pets doesn’t have a franchise in FL, perhaps I could pick up on this. I can use YWCA and YMCA facilities as they would all be vacant after May 21st should I require the space.

  33. Crypto, you pose an excellent question and one I will have to get back to you with an answer.

Btw, BnF, I love your logic … makes me smile … 🙂

Of course, we know not all men are pigs, dogs, etc. It is that kind of “all or nothing” thinking that creates “isms” and keeps us separate from one another. We need to work on cooperating and getting along together, despite our individual or collective differences.

    Peace ~

  34. Last week – driving from the Grand Canyon to Monument Valley (with XM radio on) listening to Chris Matthews grill Ron Paul. He attempted to get Paul and his “property rights” mantra to admit he was a racist – which Paul continued to evade. Matthews sometimes makes me crazy, but to listen to Paul made me angry. So he feels that all people should have the right to ban certain people from entering their business…..like a restaurant. This is only one example.
As for labeling all men – that was not my intention – I was addressing one male. and experience with this type led me to make acomment about HIM.
Now the Repugs have tried to redefine rape………………………
I have a long time friend in NH, but we never can discuss politics. she is so far to the right she just might make a 180 then go on to a 360….:-)
