“Thank you Sir! May I have another?”
This seems to be the political discourse these days; Republicans are holding the whip and Obama is their favorite whipping boy.
While the majority of Americans overwhelmingly do not want to go with the dictates of the TeaParty Republicans, the Teabaggers are running Washington. Instead of playing to his base, Obama cows down, time after time, to the most extreme demands of the Teabaggers. He’s playing to the evangelical christian base of the Republican Party, a base which he can never appease.
This author has one question: WHY?
Perhaps The Family has grown so powerful behind the scenes that no one, not even the President of the United States, dare challenge it.
One thing is certain, the Teabaggers stand ready, willing, and able to destroy this country, and will do so, unless they get thier way. So far, no one is willing to call their bet; no one knows if they will blink, because Obama always blinks first.
It’s time for Obama to take the whip.
This is our Open Thread, so flail away.
Let’s hope that as the election cycle nears, Obama the President is forced to become Obama the Candidate, in actions more than in words.
Yes but who then will he be ‘playing’?
Oh, yes, and I’ll take the fourth one from the left, the one with the long red handle and the cat o nine’s on the end!
Just popping in to say “Hi” to the Zoosters. Been busy. So has the MSM been covering the sit in on Wall Street???
apparently yahoo blocked emails about it for awhile.
while government censorship violates the 1st amendment, corporations are free to censor all they want.
.
Great to read you IP!
Word and news of this comes from the progressive blogs/news outlets I’m signed with. Major ‘news’ outlets – no!
As BnF points out – censorship seems to be intact (sad).
Hullo IP! Nice to read ya!
Hey IP. Glad to see you.
George Bush, I hope you’re happy now that our children is learning.

It’s not necessarily the teacher’s unions, but the teaching to a test that bugs the crap out of me. Which test do you teach to, and why not teach critical thinking, problem solving and other skills that will allow a student to pass any test?
Vinyl, you should start to send your children to Cuban schools. Their health and education system works, if not much else does.
Girlfriend is prof.

Two Americans are freed by Iran. Judging by the silence I would guess that the Reichwhiners are still trying to decide how to spin it. Will they claim…
1. A real American in the White House would have gotten them out earlier?
2. Obviously they were released because Obama gave them nuclear bomb technology?
Reichwingers don’t care about people on foot, hence the silence.
They are on the way to Oman – that’s when the MSM will pick it up and twist the bejeesus out of the story!
How soon after that did Ronnie start shipping the guns and rockets to the Ayatollah?
I’m not sure it was “after”.
Was it after he started shipping the mustard gas raw materials and the helicopters equipped as crop sprayers to Saddam?

How Troy Davis’s Planned Execution Is Playing Overseas: ‘America’s Worst Miscarriages Of Justice?’
Troy Davis:
He’s black. What difference does it make if he’s innocent or guilty? He’s black. Why should anyone care what happens to the bugger? He’s black. He’s obviously not one of us, cause we be white. Amurkans. He’s black.
Etc. etc. etc. The beat goes on. Hate-based fascism slowly rises to the top. Where has this happened before?
Achtung. Javohl.
It just blows me away that nearly all the ‘eyewitnesses’ to a 1AM parking lot shooting have recanted or altered their testimony, the ONLY basis for the conviction, since there was no weapon found, no dna, nada, and yet the courts just whistle past the graveyard they’re about to send this person to.
I guess I should have expected them to dress him up in cheap armor and have him fight hungry lions.
Osborne Ink has a new Comics Page!
This is most certainly NSFW! (It’s from the Magic Love Hose)
Gotta love that spunk!
Air Canada has a temporary agreement with the flight attendants union so our trip is a GO!!!!!!!!
They won’t say what the agreement is until it gets voted on in 3 weeks. Hopefully the union didn’t have to make too many concessions – again.
No one wants to have anxiety over whether or not a vacation gets cancelled. Thankfully that anxiety has been lifted. Berlin, here we come!
Hurray! Have a great holiday!
Thanks Ebb. Only four more sleeps.
Genießen Sie das Bier, und trink ein paar für mich. (Rülpser)

Gives new meaning to the term ‘Berlin Airlift’!
Ha ha. Reverse Airlift. I’ll need to go buy a parachute!
How weird are GOoPers? In this story; Batscat Bachmann tells the workers at a company that makes traffic lights that she will shrink government so that said company can “grow, grow, grow, grow, grow”. But, wait a minute, as much as 80% of their business comes from government infrastructure payments. That’s not the weird part. The weird part is that the CEO of the company seems reluctant to recognize the fact that Bachmann’s vision of “small government” would most likely kill his company. Methinks that Mr. Yost is a fundy who really, really, wants the black guy out of the White House and he’s so eager to make that happen that he will support a candidate who would destroy his business. The sad part is that a great many of the workers probably “think” the same way.
http://articles.latimes.com/2011/sep/19/nation/la-na-0920-bachmann-iowa-20110920
So many vote against their own self interest – bigotry blinds.
So let me get this right – the traffic lights and the solar powered bus stops this company makes compete for state and federal government infrastructure and mass-transit projects.
Bachman swans in and says that by stopping the spending (on those infrastructure projects) will help this company “grow, grow, grow”.
In what f***ing universe?
Pop quiz – what private interest build the highway system, what private interest built the electrical grid?
Black’s white, up is down, the earth is flat and the sun revolves around Michele Bachmann’s idiocy.
She’s busily trying to convince them that onerous gummint regulations such as ‘only one light at a time may be lit in a traffic signal’ are ruining their industry.
GOoPers aren’t just stupid and/or crazy. They are absolutely committed to Believing the opposite of the truth.
You’ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know… morons.
A strong candidate for funniest movie ever made. With each passing day I am more convinced that much of the dysfunction in this country can be summed up by another line.
“Can’t you see this man is a ni…”?
And the scene around the fire with the fat man saying “We will give some land to land the niggers and the chinks but we don’t want the Irish.”
Mel Brooks is one of the greatest satirists of all time. Ranks right up there with Mark Twain.
I find he is just a bit too corny for my taste – HoTWp1 goes on 30 mins longer than it needed to and hey what about ‘part 2’? (tongue in cheek)
Mel Brroks said that he called HotW Part ! just so he could pretend to have a sequel, and use that as an excuse for the “Jews In Space” bit. That’s the only reason it was called “Part 1”. There was never going to be a Part 2.
I sort of figured that out….. but of course that didn’t stop the speculation as to what could have been in part 2….
Indeed. Many, many, years ago I saw an interview with Mel Brooks and the interviewer was deriding the “fart jokes” and “low brow humor”. Mel said; “If you think it’s low brow you are probably one of the people we’re making fun of”.
Of course, we also have to give a lot of credit to Gene Wilder who actually wrote much of blazing Saddles and virtually all of Young Frankenstein. Mel’s true genius might be in encouraging and saving a whole lot of ad libs by actors/comedians who were brilliant satirists in their own right.
I will NEVER forget sitting in the theater watching “Blazing Saddles”.. One of the funniest movies I ever saw. Mostly because I had no idea what it was about before I saw it.
Blazing Saddles, Animal House, Caddy Shack and Young Frankenstein have a four way tie for first place in the Best Comedy (color era) category. If you add in the B&W films, it gets a lot tougher.
Part of the complication is because the early B&W comedies were mostly shorts instead of feature length films. It’s a lot easier to maintain a bit for 20 minutes than it is to spread the bits over 90 minutes.
Personally, I won’t commit to naming a favorite because my tastes change with my mood. Any list would have to include British comedies. The first couple “Pink Panther” films, Monty Python films, and the old “Carry on…” movies are very high on the chart.
My favorite B&W schtick? “Who’s on First?” My favorite B&W comedic actor? Cary Grant. My favorite comedic actress? Lots tougher but Ginger Rogers nudges Kate by just teensy bit.
Young Frankenstein was in B&W. Brooks did a brilliant job parodying the genre of monster movies. Even got to use one of the original sets with all the Dr. Frankenstein lab equipment. It was sitting around gathering dust, so they let him use it. One of my favorite movies of all time, so…
“I sug-gest you put on a tie!“
I do love Mel Brooks ” to be or not to be “was way better by Lubitsch, however.
The jokes didn’t fly quite as fast as Blazing Saddles but they were some of the best in movie history.
Thanks for the laugh, RUC!
Always welcome, say hi to Wayne!
And just think, after her tour of the meat packing plant where she couldn’t muss the do with a hair net (a basic requirement in any food handling plant) Americans get to look forward to Shelly hair in their beef!
I sincerely hope she didn’t touch any of those sides of beef. No telling where her hands have been.
That puzzled me – looking at her in there without a protective coat or hair net.
Then my thought turned to: she’s stated if elected President all Government rules and regulations would be abolished…
problem solved/
First clue: company name is OMJC, which is an abbreviation for Oh My Jesus Cried or some such shit. The fundie CEO isn’t going to say anything in the public that would be critical of fundie Batshit.
TP is getting ridiculous. Just had an obnoxious survey pop up while reading responses. How likely will you be to shop at Ikea in the next 6 months? Since “I wouldn’t shop at Ikea for a fire extinguisher if my ass was on fire” wasn’t one of the choices I just closed it.
BWAAAAAAAHAHAHAH!!! I see I haven’t missed much since I evacuated from TP…
TP has no Yahoo or Hotmail comments today. I got an ‘Oops’ message when I tried early this morning using Hotmail. I haven’t seen a survey yet.
Yahoo was being temperamental earlier in the day, not allowing access when I was attempting to sign-in to bird groups/forums that run on that system…
I’m getting the same thing. Methinks Audrey, err Facebook is jealous.
Perhaps the trouble has been shot – — just now I was able to sign-in using Hotmail on the TP board.
You can sign in but you can’t comment.
oh, now I see the ‘oops we’re experiencing difficulties…’
Why does that sound like an Eagles lyric?
“You can sign in anytime you want but you can never speak…..
A week ago, I was cleaning out my email inbox but before I deleted a message from TP saying welcome to the new commenting section, I wrote a rather long missive about how I don’t use facebook and several of the other what used to be regulars that are at the Zoo don’t go there anymore because we all tend to log on through hotmail or yahoo…
I described to them the difficulties some of you had had about posting and not being seen except to yourself or having the comment deleted if you log out.
I told them, that although I may lurk now, I never comment.
Perhaps you all might let them know your problems with the site as well. Maybe they are trying to fix it? If they don’t know about a problem, they can’t fix it.
I sporadically check TP’s RSS feed using a Firefox application called Sage. No ads, surveys, or other annoyances. I also don’t have to give their main page any hits and only open the individual stories if I want to copy the URL.
Just to be clear, I’ve never been dissatisfied with their reporting. It’s their selling out that bugs me. I understand what they did and why they did it but I think they’ve lost a good deal of credibility because they have included inane pop-culture stuff. We didn’t really need another HuffPo.
I can’t recall when it was the last time I read responses over there. Now I just skim the headlines and come over here when I want to comment on something.
Oh I got another couple of captions for yesterday’s Michele Bachmann photo op:
“So which one of these should I pardon?”
“Sarah got turkeys *and* they were still alive during her photo op – WTF?”
What about: “See what happens when you give girls HPV vaccinations?”
Interesting. Protesters on Wall Street are being arrested for wearing masks.
Seems it is illegal to wear a mask in New York unless you are attending a masquerade party.
They had to stretch back 150 years to resurrect that little gem of an excuse to take away the right to assembly!
So, according to this obscure law, the original “Tea Partiers” should have been thrown in jail. I wonder if any of today’s teabaggers will notice the irony. (That’s rhetorical. Today’s teabaggers wouldn’t notice irony if it bit their noses off.)
Indeed. They are irony deficient. More Geritol, please.
And to rub salt into the open, raw, bleeding wound…
The new Forbes 400 list shows that while the economy is stalled, the rich keep getting richer.
See the 10 wealthiest Americans of 2011.
Spag me with a goon.
Meanwhile, there’s the Ugly Truth List.
The 46.2 million Americans living in poverty.
Yeah. HEY BONER! Do you see any problem here, you fascist lackey!?
And I wonder how many jobs those 400 people created this year?
I think I had a comment get snagged by the spam filter…
He doesn’t see it as a problem…He figures those people don’t vote….and if they do, then he figures that he can suppress that vote.
As the rich would say…then shouldn’t they move?
There’s a nice piece on Elizabeth Warren over at Washington Monthly. She’s even cooler than I thought. I may have to move to Massachusetts. I love her “nobody out there got rich on his own” riff. Go Warren!
If she gets the nod in Mass. and joins the Senate, we only need about 90 more just like her to finally make the place work right.
The other interesting aspect of being rich is it is only fun when somebody else does everything for you. Having lots of money tends to make one more dependent on the lower classes and working hands.
Elizabeth is dreamy…. 🙂
The thing the rich always miss is that poor people don’t need the rich to survive. The reverse is not true.
Oooh, but the rich are the job creators! Where would we be without them? Living in mudhuts eating arugula is where.
Actually, I think the average Joe does better for himself when there are no rich around to soak up his winnings. I’ve known, in my life, a handful of rich dudes, but never met one that was worth the powder to blow him to hell when it came to making the local society more sound, more productive. All they ever did was live in a huge house and drive new cars. What good are they, I wondered.
I still wonder that.
I have to laugh at these rich fools who think that having a gun and a pile of gold will enable them to survive a real collapse of society. Personally, I can live off the land pretty well. I’ve done it before. If worst came to worst I know exactly where I would go and not another human being would even know I was there. I’m not looking forward to wearing skins and hunting, trapping, gathering, and fishing to survive but I can guarantee that I would last longer than one of the freaks could last if their local supermarket closed down.
So the Fed defies Republican demands that they do nothing lest the economy might improve? Gee, how rotten and subversive of them to do something that just might keep the pubies from gaining full control in 2012. Why does the Fed hate America, I wonder?
Can’t help but wonder what Ben and Barak might have up their sleeves.
I think they’re trying to save the US and perhaps the global economy from a gigantic crash and the financial Armageddon along with the mass human suffering that surely would follow.
Fucking treasonous bastards.
Quote of the Day:
“There is still time, Sean [Hannity], and I think on both sides of the aisle you’re going to see people coming and going from this race…In the Republican race, in this primary, I think people are still going to be coming and going because there is still time. And I’m still one of those still considering the time factor,” – Sarah Palin.
I’m thinking most of them are going. As in explosive diarrhea disguised as speech.
What? People will be coming and going? I wonder why?
She needs to jump off something really high, and the sooner the better.
“People come and go so quickly around here!” (Dorothy, Wizard of Oz)
Appropriate, since the Rs seem to be living in Oz or some other mythical place.
AnEEG – An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test to detect problems in the electrical activity of the brain is in order.
She needs help – really needs help.
There is no comparison between her gibberish to the eloquence of Elizabeth Warren.
“I think on both sides of the aisle you’re going to see people coming and going from this race”
???
WTF? Is she really that stupid? Does she take stupid supplements to get that dumb?
In a truly just world, she would never have been allowed to have children. But then neither would her parents Chuck and Sally Heath, either. So I guess the point is moot.
Yes. She is that stupid. I don’t know whether it’s genetic, acquired, or both but she’s the single stupidest person I’ve ever seen run for a national office with the possible exception of Jimmy Inhofe.
Shelly reminds me of Veruca Salt. Spoiled, pampered, mindless and greedy.
Ok, may sound macho or sexist or whatever but Shelly and Sarah (and a few others) are poster children for the male idea that women really shouldn’t be let out of the kitchen. I am sooooo glad that the women of the Zoo totally contradict their insanity and reaffirm my belief that humanity is salvageable. Women who are women, rational, intelligent, caring and witty and men who try real hard to do the same.
Why, thanks, hooda, and the same to you! “Our” men here are certainly not like the arrogant he-men trolls nor the idiot men in political power, thank the gods.
Looks like Eric and company are lining up to hold the country hostage yet again. No jobs bills, just extortion. The Al Capone School of Gubmint.
Full Text: Republicans’ Letter to Bernanke Questioning More Fed Action
The top four congressional Republicans sent the following letter to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke Monday ahead of the central bank’s two-day meeting that began today:
Ultimately, the American economy is driven by the confidence of consumers and investors and the innovations of its workers.
So true. How about we do something about making more Americans workers? At a decent wage so they can once again become consumers above the level of WalMart crap.
And when the consumers no longer have money to spend, the American economy grinds to a complete stop.
I wouldn’t trust those silly bints, Sarah and Shelly, in my kitchen. As a former restaurant manager, lover of fantastic food, and acclaimed chef in my own right I have found that being a good cook depends on skills that neither of them display. Curiosity, imagination, intelligence, scientific acumen, and a desire to explore new things are required to excel in the kitchen. The “Moron Sisters” might be able to microwave a TV dinner or maybe butter toast but I would bet dollars to stale doughnuts that neither of them could cook a real meal to save their lives.
Speaking of cooking, it must be time for me to throw some dinner together because my previous post was supposed to be a reply to hooda. I’m keeping it simple tonight. A nice, lean pork chop simmered in beer with baby carrots and onions with half an acorn squash on the side.
Mmm, aside from the squash it sounds good, pete.
mmm – I’ll take Jane’s portion of squash (with a very small spoonful of brown sugar)!
and a dab of butter
A substantial “dab” of butter and just a couple drops of lemon juice.
Shoot, all we’re having tonight is shrimp with fried Okra and portabellas plus the season’s last fresh cantaloupe for dessert. We do have a farm fresh acorn squash, but that’s for tomorrow with roasted chicken.
and a little nutmeg wouldn’t hoit.
oooooh – you mentioned nutmeg …. that’ll do it: butter and nutmeg. [I’ll save the brown sugar for another meal!]
Ever notice how if anyone mentions food in a comment it just sort of flows?
When all is said and done, food is far more important and enjoyable than politics.
Former President Bill Clinton says global warming deniers embarrass America. Try to guess what Fox News ran as their headline. Go ahead, guess:
http://nation.foxnews.com/bill-clinton/2011/09/20/impeached-president-says-global-warming-deniers-embarrass-america
WTF?
(damn went into the spam bin) all I wrote was
WTF
I see both, ebb – if someone rescued your comment, they did it pretty damn quickly!
Sometimes there’s a delay – and it seems that was the case this time!
So telling that the Republicans impeached the one President in the past 30 years that lowered the deficit. Nice priorities.
They never fail to disappoint.
Missed the reply button again.
Five o’clock news in Jacksonville reports Koch brothers Georgia-Pacific plywood plant in Hawthorne, FL laying off 400 employees. Meanwhile, 40 miles to the east, Koch brothers paper mill wants permit to pump effluent into St. Johns River.
Of course there’s no way fine, upstanding citizens like Charles and David Koch would close one plant just to get a pipeline permit to pollute a river. /Snark off
.
They are the jobs creators – that’s been shoved down our grey matter by the TeaPottiers .
Will permission be granted to pollute?
The St Johns river. Man, does that bring back memories. None of them involve effluent.
Pachy, I like this quote from the article:
““If you’re going to be diplomatic, it’s going to cost you in the long run. If you want to stop something, you’ve got to get downright ugly, get mean, stomp your feet and stand in their faces. Otherwise, they’ll run right over you.””
Uh, President Obama, maybe you should listen to this bass fisherman!
A Blast From The Past. No, not that guy — the other thing:

What a whack job
Never trust an old fart who wears white bucks?
.
The botox has entered and frozen any brain cells Pat may have had.
Ever notice that Republican wingnuts willingly and sometimes enthusiastically believe any “R” talking point, any “R” buzzword, so long as it isn’t backed by any real information? And then they disdain completely EVERYTHING that’s backed by science, by verifiable data.
Must be really weird to live in that old “flat earth” world.
Ya know the whole Troy Davis thing. If the President had a left nut larger than a pistachio he would issue a pardon since the state of Georgia obviously is oblivious.
If I have the numbers right, and if they proceed with the murder on schedule, then in
fourthree minutes it’ll be too late.As I understand it; the President can’t issue a pardon because Troy Davis was tried by the state rather than in federal court.
As I understand it, the President can pardon any crime on any level. But about now, the question becomes moot as far as Troy is concerned.
This isn’t the president’s call, not this one or any other president.
No, it could have been. If a governor can commute and a President can pardon, Troy Davis was an American citizen. If Gerry could pardon Dick, Obama could have pardoned Troy. Fuck politics.
As a country, the U.S, can neither discuss nor condemn other nations on ‘Human Rights’.
We have no moral high ground.
More and more, we hold the LOW ground.
I don’t know if Troy Davis is guilty or not, but after he’s executed I hope someone can definitively prove he was. Ya know, so Georgia can maintain their *perfect* record.
Wayne just heard on twitter that the SC stayed the execution.
So, does he have to reimburse the state now, for his last meal? These are tough economic times, ya know?
I hope not – and I hope that he made it a really good meal!
Most telling – even if Davis is guilty – the error should be on the side of caution. Commute to life – keep the case alive ti find the truth.
If he’s innocent – the man would still be alive to rejoice.
If guilty – already serving time…he’d continue.
Execution, as you have pointed out…
Okay, now it’s being said that the SC has delayed, not stayed, the execution. Someone from CNN tweeted it.
Ben Jealous of the NAACP says the same thing.
from the AJC
Ga. high court won’t halt Davis execution
AJC reporters are inside and outside the prison, in Savannah and with Mark Allen MacPhail’s family members as the hour approaches for the execution of his convicted killer Troy Anthony Davis. 6:32 p.m
Such an overwhelming percentage of Republicans are not just for the death penalty, they love it. It makes me feel ill. They call themselves the ‘party of life’. How is that? Why is it okay to kill prisoners, but not okay for woman to choose to have an abortion.. I really don’t see the difference. It is very contradictory and hypocritical.
I can’t help but think of the person who is responsible for taking the life of the convicted killer. He himself has become a killer. Probably repeatedly. Why is that right? The Right always says that it is only for God to take a life when their time is right. Why is this the exception? How do they square this with the bible?
keyword: Women. They can’t be trusted/
I don’t know if it was an original line, but someone on TP last night said, basically, that ‘Republicans want to shrink the government small enough to fit inside a woman’s uterus.’
Great line Jane.
“They call themselves the ‘party of life’.”
Muse, they also call themselves Christians. Personally, I think the whole lot of them ought to be thrown into the Coliseum with some really hungry lions.
I know they say ‘an eye for an eye’, but that is Old Testament. I was taught growing up in the church that when Christ died on the cross, he freed us from the law, and we now were saved by grace (or something to that effect). Jesus doesn’t teach anywhere that it is okay to kill someone.
Doesn’t it say somewhere in the Bible: “thou shalt not kill/” ?
What other major world religion has as it’s symbol a form of barbaric execution?
None, that I can think of…
6:25 Troy Davis’ attorneys have filed a request for a stay of execution with the U.S. Supreme Court. It is his last chance to avoid execution.
Davis awaits U.S. Supreme Court for final chance
ABC News is reporting:
“Dating back to his time in the Illinois State Senate, President Obama has worked to ensure accuracy and fairness in the criminal justice system – especially in capital punishment cases,” said White House Press Secretary Jay Carney. “However, it is not appropriate for the President of the United States to weigh in on specific cases like this one, which is a state prosecution.”
So the Emperor must bow to the warlord of Georgia? What, is this Shogun Japan? Twelfth century China? Part of the purpose of the federal government is to mitigate state autocracy. Troy Davis is a US citizen, not just a resident of the state of GA.
Live video stream from the execution scene:
http://www.livestream.com/democracynow
I’m watching there, along with 38000+ other people.
Sorry to bring religion into this, but it has a role. These people spout their religious beliefs, are all pious, and go on about the sanctity of life all the time, and yet they take joy (as was displayed by the Teabaggers at the recent debate) in taking the lives of those convicted and on death row.
I used to agree with it but I do not any more. If there is even the possibility of executing one innocent man, how do you continue with this practice and call yourself a ‘civilized’ society.
Religion absolutely plays a role and the literature that the religious people use to justify their belief in execution is incredibly full of violence against fellow human beings.
Christianism:
Executions: Big applause, we approve!!
Abortions: Hell and damnation for your soul!
I’m also thinking of Terri Schiavo. Do you remember how hard they fought to stop that? Her husband wasn’t actively trying to kill her, he was disconnecting her from being kept artificially alive.
I’m reading some of tweets scrolling along the side of the livestream video, and quite a few of them are in Spanish and French. One girl said that she was watching from Paris. Amazing!
The world is watching the United States very closely these days.
We cannot hide behind the chimera of being the champion of democracy any longer.
verily written
Just an observation.
It seems like, in many cases, the families of black victims come out against the execution of perpetrators while families of white victims seem eager for execution. Troy Davis and Lawrence Russell Brewer, in this context, are only two data points that provide evidence in a long and shameful history.
Ahhh, the abundant joys of back spasms….
Fuck.
ouch! Sorry to hear you are suffering.
Hot packs and Tiger Balm.
At this point in the pain, and having not slept for two nights,I’m opting for the high-powered drugs.
still doesn’t mean you can’t do the other. Between the two you should get serious relief.
Zooey, you know about me and back pain. LazyBoy, serious hot pack, Tiger Balm or some other topical treatment. The pain drugs just mask it.
It’s not a pain med, it’s a muscle relaxer.
Cyclobenzaprine?
Yes!!
I enjoy those pleasures a couple of times a year.
May I add, FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK. Odd that for me, if I do some kind of work, like turn the compost, I can lesson the spasms. Along with some robax and a beer or two, followed by medical mary jane (self prescribed).
Good luck ridding yourself of them.
Wonder if the Supremes will kvetch about working OT/
We know the reichwingers will twist and shout about all the money being ‘wasted’ ‘to save one guy’.
Do you suppose beings all those police officers are standing there in riot gear ready for trouble, that they’ve now decided to wait 4-6 hours, in hopes that people will get tired of waiting and will start to leave, and then do it in the wee hours of the night.. Thus avoid problems with the crowd?
.
Most states do the executing as close to midnight as possible – was surprised Troy’s was scheduled for 7p!
Georgia is so damn backward – my thought is they are being stubborn in holding true to the death sentence – never considering the world is watching. Not caring about a man’s life.
Shame. Shame. Shame is all I have for my country.
Xian my damn Aunt Helen!
Ebb, you have a damned Aunt Helen, too? Mine looks like Mitch McConnell in a wig (as I told Hoodathunk the other day.)
The Supremes are on salary, no OT.
I’m against killing. The concept of state sanctioned murder as a means of punishment is wrong. The idea of snuffing a potential life by abortion is wrong. Stopping life is basically wrong. I can understand the abortion side and agree, it is up to the bearer of the child. Don’t like it but I can see it.
Killing criminals is an entirely different story. While I hate the idea of life imprisonment I would say make the death penalty voluntary. If criminals don’t want to be confined and prefer to die, give them the option. The state shouldn’t have the hammer.
According to HuffPo:
The Court’s delay can mean several things:
The justices are waiting on a petition for a writ of certiorari to arrive;
The justices are still deliberating;
A justice or justices are currently incommunicado and can’t be reached for a vote;
A justice or justices have decided to write a separate opinion accompanying the stay order.
Clarence Thomas is masturbating.
Ok, one of those may be wrong.
Not sure what a certiorari is but I know what Clarence is doing. Very funny.
Scalia is dawdling over his poached duck at the Cheney’s.
.
Damn that Clarence!
[Democracy Now says the decision may come close to 9p EDT]
He found a pube on his pop can?
Oh dear, Clarence fell asleep before he was finished…
So, his big head and his little head nodded off?
Apparently at last report he is “considering a stay”
I can imagine the calls from Roberts, Scalia and what’s his name, the nerdy one:
“Here big fella, you handle this one…”
Allito
America seems to have things bassakwards as usual. In cases of capital crimes where the options of life imprisonment and death are the choices it should be up to the convicted. Do you want to rot in a 6×12 cell for the rest of your natural life, treated like crap or do you want to die. Very simple.
uh oh, many police vehicles – lights and sirens showing up at the prisons gate…
there’s no interpretation as to what it may mean…
Is that on the television?
.
bdmm posted the LiveStream/DemocracyNow – that’s where I’m watching.
Ok, thanks!
Apparently Democracy Now! is the only live TV coverage left anymore…
We don’t have to worry until the local Faux News van pulls up. Until that happens, nothing happens.
I am just totally amazed at the comments I see and read that say the President has no authority or recourse in this. The President can pardon any US citizen for any crime…period. At any time for any reason.
Unfortunately, many people would be injured and killed in a wave of domestic terrorism against people of color if the President did so.
What I have read indicates that the POTUS only has that power in federal cases for federal crimes. State executions for state crimes, are outside the president’s purview.
Helicopters overhead, german shepherds in the cop cars….
Welcome to the Police States of America.
oh, police state indeed – she was prohibited from going into the crowd – had to go back to the media ring.
Police are getting closer
.
People on death row are: under suicide watch – yeah, don’t off yourself give that ‘pleasure’ to the state.
Undergoes a physical to be sure one is fit enough to be murdered by the state…
A big damn ‘to-do’ over a last meal
Shame on this nation – we have the repugnants/teapottiers cheer-leading for the death penalty – yet zygotes are give ‘personhood’…
I’m sickened with this nation at the moment.
.
There have been no updates.
They’re stalling to defuse the situation. Not without precedence.
It’s very unpleasant to watch as one’s homeland dies, esp. when the causative disease is so easily curable.
Q: Why is Troy Davis about to die for a crime he may well have not committed, and Bush, Cheney, and Rummy et al. run around rich and free after seeing to the murder of perhaps as many as a million innocent people? After torturing, after Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, and hell holes never revealed? Why?
None of them are black?
And they’re all Republicans.
.
Interesting – DN had gone to a Johnny Cash song – never came back live…
much earlier DN stated they’s be on until at least 10p EDT.
It’s back live.
The ‘protest pen’ as it’s being called – majority of the crowd have been there all day. No food is allowed – only water. AND if they leave, for any reason, not allowed back in.
(hmm , police state – wear them down make it dirt they’ll go away…not so determination will out wit intimidation…)
That is distinctly un-American, IMHO.
Earlier Amy went under the ‘media ring’ rope (into the crowd) and the Georgia Correctional Officers – I think it was – told her to get back in the media area or she’d be ousted.
This is a stupid question, but are there any people not “of color” in that “protest pen”? Just wondering.
I can’t help wondering if all those people standing there quietly, respectfully, with their signs, were white with blonde hair and blue eyes, if they would be given the same treatment with rows of hundreds of policemen in riot gear ready to pounce..
I am offended the police are taking such a menacing stance there. It isn’t called for. It creates the illusion that these people are to be feared.
The world is still watching — one of the tweets from Ireland stating it was 3.10a and they couldn’t sleep.
Amy is playing Billie Holiday Strange Fruit this is Nina Simone singing – the video is more demonstrative of the times…then and now (well not sanctioned lynching but murder none the less)
Supreme Court ruled will not block execution.
So much for being a nobody/regular guy in America.
Too bad Troy Davis didn’t have a stack of money and paler skin. If he did, he wouldn’t be sitting where he is now even if he was guilty.
…..
SUPREME COURT HAS REFUSED TO BLOCK THE EXECUTION
And the murder of Troy Davis is now on the fast track. Fuck Georgia, Fuck the SCOTUS.
.
No dissenting opinion from SCOTUS… I’m so sickened – truly sickened. I despise Clarence “Uncle” Thomas.
Was there dissenting opinion because they all thought he was guilty? Or was it they didn’t want to step in and overturn states rights without enough compelling evidence.. I have a hard time believing they all agreed he should be executed due to guilt when there is so much questions about his guilt.
I also believe the WH was not going to have an opinion on this or step in because they are so afraid of being accused of stepping in for or looking out for black people..
This is kind of crazy. They could have still kept him locked up for life while they looked into his guilt or innocence. It’s not like the alternative was letting him free.
Killing prisoners is not justice. It is legal retribution.
The SCOTUS had the tersest announcement – nothing was elaborated upon only they were not going to stay the execution.
The White House doesn’t feel it appropriate to comment on any individual case.
I think the SCOTUS is probably limited in its scope. I think they can only look at whether or not Davis’s rights were violated, and if he received due process.
BnF will know better than I, of course.
The execution will take place within half an hour. Sad.
OMG, tonight!?
.
Amy said it’s being carried out as she speaks (and I type).
I must do a ‘drive-by’: looking for Peregrines in their roosting spots. Gazing upon them – thanking them for wanting to be seen – helps keep my blood pressure in check.
The death penalty must be abolished – it must.
Doesn’t matter it’s still murder.
I agree, nwoldguy. I’m against the death penalty 100%.
I’m only commenting on the possible limited scope of the SCOTUS in these cases.
Doesn’t matter it’s still murder.
That was worth repeating. “Sanctioned” murder.
We are a xian nation – just ask a Repugnant party/teapottier…I despise, despise to the nth degree these ‘xians’.
How’s your back doing Zooey? I have an implanted spinal stimulator I turn on when my back hurts. If you sit real close beside me I’ll turn my stimulator on high for you. 😉
Hee hee, you are so naughty, pachy. 😀
The spasms seem to have settled down pretty much, and I’m looking forward to a better night’s sleep.
I want to puke. This is not the American that I want to live in.
I don’t believe in the death penalty and I don’t believe a president should set a precedent of intervening in such matters.
Agreed the President should not intervene.
We need to, again, abolish the death penalty in this nation.
It just makes me sick that this man is being executed for killing one person based on nothing more than on the eyewitness accounts of 9 people, 7 of whom recounted their testimony. And there are three men in this country (3 in particular), white rich powerful men (Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld), responsible for committing and ordering others to commit serious war crimes in the name of this country, for taking this country to war based on manufactured evidence and lies, who are responsible for the deaths of well over 100,000 people, and responsible for the rendition and torture of so many people, so many who were guilty of nothing, and they still walk around free, they will never spend one minute behind bars, and they continue to gather more wealth and influence. They will never pay for anything.
What is wrong with this picture.
Hear hear, muse.
The Occupy Wall Street protesters need some teabagger flags and misspelled signs. Then the media will report on the protests.
Troy Davis is dead — murdered by the government (i.e. US).
May he rest in peace…
The reporters are talking about the “professionalism” of the executioners. What a weird thing to say, to hear..
What a weird thing to focus on.
24/7 news means talk talk talk, just fill the void with sound…
I’m still watching Democracy Now!
They read a quote of Troy Davis’s final words. He told the family he wasn’t responsible for their family member’s death, that he didn’t have a gun. He told them to dig deeper to find the truth.
He told the executioners “To the people about to take my life, may God have mercy on your souls. May God bless your souls.”
Interesting quote on one of the Twitter feeds.. “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”
I think that was a Ghandi quote.
Indeed, it was.
It was.
Thanks, guys!
Still got a couple brain cells functioning. 🙂
And no doubt, somewhere a room full of Rick Perry supporters is whopping it up, high fiving and firin’ off their six shooters…
Oh yeah, pRick Pervy’s got the sick fuck vote locked up.
Hi, polar bear!
Evenin’…
Saaaaaaaaaay… where’d the fridge go?
It used ta be right over there… ???
Ummmmm, we remodeled. The fridge is on order.
Yeah…that’s it…
Well… that’s a revolting development…
There must be… ***SOMETHING*** around here to eat…
I’ll just have a look around…
I hope he doesn’t notice the bomb shelter stores…
.
pRick was a bit busy:
.
Texas death row inmate Lawrence Russell Brewer, 44, was executed by lethal execution at 7:21 p.m. ET Wednesday, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said.
Good Morning ebb, for me the Death “Penalty” is in my view the ultimate cold-blooded, premeditated murder. Most barbaric of all government actions. Not only for the not guilty, but just generally. I am so glad it is abolished in the EU.
It is disgusting that the U.S. has the audacity to lecture other countries on Human Rights when it plays executioner to its own citizens.
We aren’t a civilized society.
Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaay…
I wonder where this door goes to…???
What’s that writing say?
Kinda dusty…
B…
O…

***sniff… sniff***
Ooooooooooooooooooooo…

Note to self…
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooo…

But…
***sniff… sniff…***
Blubber Bits!!!!
Barrels ‘n barrels ‘n barrels of ’em!
Mebbe I should strike a match…
Hey… is that a wick? Mebbe I should light it…
Who gave the polar bear matches!?
*hitting switch for sprinklers*
Dude!
What the?
Now it’s RAINING?
INDOORS?
Good thing this ‘candle’ is staying lit…
Boy, that wick burns fast… and sparks a lot…
I can’t watch this *covering eyes*
Does the fire department have a polar bear-sized ambulance…?
*running for the hills*
Yaaaawwwwwnnn, what is the noise here? Now you woke me up. You would do that, unruly lot!
***grumble***

Appropriate?
.
Appropriate.
Doesn’t load for me 😦
Of course Coulter had to weigh-in:
COP-KILLER IS MEDIA’S LATEST BABY SEAL
A commenter at Balloon Juice relays this:
“I’d call @anncoulter a cunt, but she’s neither the depth nor the warmth.”
.
The ‘c’ word isn’t in my vocabulary – I detest it…
somehow this seemed to be an indirect slap against a purely evil person.
oh, these two (12.03a & 12.09a) ‘comments’ should be deleted – if the deletion faerie should pay a visit!
Don’t know where my brain was – not on a ‘kind’ spot that’s for sure!
My apologies for placing it on theZoo.
