The Watering Hole: February 24 — Home

Hi, all.  I made it home at about 10 p.m. last night.  This may have been posted before — maybe even by me!  But I’m very tired…

I think I’ll sleep in this morning.

This is our daily open thread — What’s going on around here?

    • On Wednesday it hit seventy here, walked around the lake in a T-shirt. Then yesterday it snowed six inches and this morning the temp outside the window is 14 degrees. Mid-fifties and sunny is the predicted high for tomorrow, more snow on Monday. There’s a very old saying here: “If you don’t like the weather in Colorado, wait ten minutes and it’ll change.” Most accurate old saying I’ve ever run across.

      • Oh, and yes, I’m old and forgetful, forgot to say welcome back, Zooey! Imagine it: Oregon to SoCal to Idaho to Oregon in less than a week — at my age it’d take at least a year to walk that far!

  1. We’re glad to have you back, Zooey!

I’m off work today. Only 40 hours on next weeks check. That sucks almost as much as the weather today and tomorrow, so I’ll be hanging out, listening to Thom Hartmann, etc.

  2. About the lamp and the carpet….
    I can explain.
The footprints on the ceiling and the alligator in the bathtub might take a bit more time.

  3. My computer was crashing a lot and then after you left it got worse. 😡 Shockwave crashes were bad enough then in your absence I began getting blue screen crashes 3 or 4 time an hour. 😥

I’m not blaming this on you. What I’m trying to say is it appears to me that my computer, like me, prefers having you nearby, even if only in cyberspace. 😉

    • Yeah for Bill Maher. I’m glad that Obama is doing the Super Pac thing. After all, the idiotic, women hating, elitists that are campaigning for the Republic nomination are enjoying the benefits from the Citizens United decision so Obama should too.

  4. “It [No Child Left Behind] was against the principles I believed in, but, you know, when you’re part of the team, sometimes you take one for the team, for the leader,” — Santorum

Funny, I don’t recall the constitution saying a Senator is part of the president’s “team.” We put them there to vote for what they believe (and represent constituent values). Santorum’s admission that NCLB support was a mistake is also an admission that he was more interested in being a Washington insider, than representing his beliefs and his constituents.

  5. That’s it, because the good Lord said that ‘the last shall be first and the first shall be last’ – I have decided not to stop at red lights in the morning, especially when there’s no one coming the other way. Anything else would insult my religious beliefs.

    • I wonder, with the “christian” “life begins at conception” laws being bantered about, what if we had a Jewish president & congress? Would they pass a law requiring all males to be circumsized?

  6. Welcome back, Zooey. Good morning, everybody.

In today’s first outrage we feature a truly stupid woman. First of all; she married Sick Rantorum. Second of all; she cites her disabled child as an excuse for denying health care for the children of those with more modest means. Third of all; she dares to claim to know God’s will. I always thought that was against the rules.

And here we hear from her truly stupid husband who claims that Democrats are running Mittens’ campaign. Like the old saying says; “you can’t fix stupid”.

    • And to think – those two home “school” their children.
The world isn’t safe from the stupid.

Karen needs to have a conversation with Crazy Shelie –
god spoke to her as well..misinterpretations do happen!

    • “I did always feel in my heart that God had big plans for RIck,” she said. “Eventually it was there, tugging at my heart. … When Obamacare passed, that was it. That put the fire in my belly.”

Makes sense to me. There’s nothing Jesus hates more than caring for the disadvantaged.

    • All this talk about contraception, trans-vaginal ultrasound, etc. got me thinking that what’s even more evil is when a dude has a vasectomy. Let’s him screw his brains out (tricky) with no worries of pregnancy resulting. WTF? Talk about immoral!

So, here’s my plan: prior to a vasectomy, the state must require the dude to undergo a tran-rectal testicular ultrasound.

That should help improve the white baby birthrate, no?

  7. Va. Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-ube) said on Friday that he changed the terms his support for a controversial GOP-sponsored mandatory ultrasound bill at the last minute this week because he didn’t realize until that point that the law would require an invasive, transvaginal procedure.

Didn’t know the law? Doesn’t know the female anatomy? Or just didn’t care about either.

  8. I hope Karen Santorum can accept that it’s likely God’s will that Rick never get any closer to the presidency than he is right now.

We’re having a tornado watch, so I’m spending my time watching with my little weather mavin.

    • Last night my husband and I were trying to figure out how a woman could support a religion/politician/worldview that relegated her to secondary status and we realized we don’t know any of these women well enough to understand where they’re coming from. Thoughts? Is it self-loathing?

      • I don’t know what else it could be, Outstanding. I think they need a daddy figure to tell them what to do at every turn, and really actually truly do not believe that all the crazy laws they’re supporting will EVER have any effect on THEM.

They are delusional. Remember the Commander’s wife in The Handmaid’s Tale? She was miserable.

Better get on the road. See y’all tomorrow!

    • That’ll show the kids///

Oh and this will certainly present a compelling argument for the raging hormones:

“Why don’t we just be honest with them upfront that sex outside marriage is devastating?”

The state wants to appear so upright and moral, yet reality says:

EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the state that ranks number one in online porn consumption.

    • I am pro-abortion. When I see the Republican candidate list for any office, I remember Al Capp’s question from a long time ago: “What I want to know is where were the liberal abortion laws when we really needed them?”

  9. Has Ben Stein realized that he’s thrown in with crazy people or been taken over by an alien parasite? I just heard a blurb on the radio and the usually odious Mr. Stein said that the markets are to blame for rising gas prices and that President Obama can’t control oil prices any more than he can control the weather. (NOTE: It didn’t even sound like he used the weather as an example of why global warming is a hoax.)

  10. To summarize, the newly released Palin e-mails reveal that she and Todd were contemplating divorce, that she wanted to resign for months, and that she’s the only person over the age of 12 who still uses the word “bullcrap.”

    • Renewable in 65,000,000 years perhaps.

Of course in that time, assuming humans are still alive, conservatives will still not have evolved into any sort of common sense.

    • Maybe it’s simply because AZ was my home state for forty years, but I’d sure hate to think the people there are so stupid they’d elect a nitwit like that to Congress. Then I think of Jeff Flake, Trent Franks, Ben Quayle, Jan Brewer, John McCain, Jon Kyl, Russell Pearce, et al et al the stupid shits that have come before him and my hopes end up, once again, in the proverbial sewer.

  11. QOTD:

“I used to be a conservative, and I watch these debates and I’m wondering, I don’t think I’ve changed, but it’s a little troubling sometimes when people are appealing to people’s fears and emotion rather than trying to get them to look over the horizon for a broader perspective, and that’s kind of where we are,” – Jeb Bush.

The GOP convention is in Florida. What’s on your mind, former Fla. governor Jeb?
