Thanks to pete, who, on Saturday’s thread, provided this link to TPM to a whole new world of crazy in American politics. I thought it was worth revisiting.
A woman named Randi Shannon, while running for a State Senate seat in Iowa, abandoned that campaign because, as she described in a letter to her supporters, she was taking a U.S. Senate seat in the Republic of the United States of America. This “Republic of the United States of America” is apparently based on the Constitution and the Amendments through Number 13. After that, the citizens of this ‘Republic’ believe that the U.S. Federal Government was highjacked and therefore no other Amendments in their imaginary world. In my opinion, the style and content of this “letter” is immature, ignorant, illiterate, petulant, pretentious, patronizing and psychotic. You have to see and read the whole thing for the full effect, but here’s a couple of sections that I particularly noted:
First, the date in the header: [[[ July 4th, 2012 ]]] Seriously? What’s with all of the brackets?
Then:
The Office of the Senator of the Republic of the United States of America,And The Republic for Iowa, Senator Randi Shannon
Wait, now Iowa gets to be its own Republic?
[Forth] Every concern which The People of Iowa have regarding GOVERNMENTAL ABUSE, such as the high cost and unconstitutionality of Obama-care and current healthcare costs, the invasive, insufferable acts committed by the TSAs at Airports, Taxation at Obscene levels, and the list goes on and on, are all problems brought on by The βde factoβ UNITED STATES CORPORATION.
Okay, first, “FORTH”?! Of course, also note the usual lies about the ACA, and the ignorance about today’s tax rates.
*Check out the “Recent Posts” and “Blogroll” on the sidebar here. I also liked this bit:
Also, President Turner began a 40-day fast on Monday, July 9. If you would like to join him in this fast, or if you want to know more, download the document with the Daniel Fast Food List here. [Emphasis mine.]
Here’s a few more links to different aspects of this idiocy.
Oh, and, of course, this “Republic” is ‘officially’ a Christian nation.
This is our daily open thread — what’s on YOUR mind?
Where are they going to get their funding for roads, police, fireman, teachers, prisons, and military? They won’t be able to collect taxes unless they amend their constitution to include taxes. Where will they money to pay their salaries? The state of Iowa would have the right to charge them fees to use state roads and highways AND so would the federal government have the right to charge fees for using federal highways. The ownership of property extends to the middle of the road so that there are no gaps in deeds. Along with utility companies, the government (local, state, federal) has easement on the road portion which allows for the movement of traffic.
I would love to see them set up their own country. It would be a country with no power, no military and no money as they would have to print money which would not be recognized outside of their tiny nation. And, they could all be charged with sedition and sent to federal prison.
And they would lose whatever right they claim to have to have their caucuses before anybody else. Which is a good thing, because the rest of the country didn’t decide that Iowa should have first crack at presidential candidates. π
Next stop, River City, Iowa. Thinking not allowed in this State.
Why isn’t what they’re doing treason?
Article 3, section 3, U.S. Constitution:
“Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”
I don’t think being batshitlunaticcrazy counts.
Their short-sightedness is stunning. More than 200 years ago Americans were all “pioneers” and “libertarians” but to have order in society, a government was needed. In order to progress, we needed to build an infrastructure — we did all that through group effort toward the common goal. That is totally lost today as politicians can’t agree on anything, and the fools like Shannon think they can function independently.
Reading some of the comments on their blog reminds me of the Jim Jones ministry and of the Hal Bop comet chasers. It sounds like just another cult. How sad that people feel so insecure that they follow idiots that only want to take their money and control their lives. I think animals are smarter than some people.
Women didn’t have the right to vote until 1920, the first female Representative was in 1917, first Iowa female Rep in 1928.
Given this insane cow’s adamant date specific references to politics and law, she has NO STANDING in her own fantasy Republic to represent anyone, or to vote. GAHH!
.
I picked up on that, too, 5th. If their Republic stops at the 13th Amendment…well, women weren’t given the right to vote until the 19th Amendment.
They stop at abolishing slavery, and just before providing equal protection under the law.
And you would have to roll back case-law and SCOTUS decisions to that point as well; as going forward they may have been based on parts of the constitution that are no longer there.
And you’d have to pretty much review every piece of legislation that has come since then and make sure it wasn’t using constitutional authority that came after the 13th amendment.
That’s right. She can’t vote and neither can anyone under the age of 21.
Minor details apparently. These are “big picture” type thinkers. BWAHAHAHA.
The Mitt Romney Campaign has officially become the Pee Wee Herman Campaign:

Comment below the story: “I am no political campaign strategist, yet I’d think NOT picking a clip with hundreds of people cheering for your opponent would be key.”
Real geniuses showing the president looking super cool. And Mitt is such a child that he had to try singing after Obama got so much attention for singing. Really there is really something wrong emotionally with him.
And I thought I was crazy. These people are insane. It’s all about discrediting the government so that in its place would be corporations in control…aren’t they already? Is that too crazy to think?
I still can’t understand how these people don’t see the problem when big money and multinational corporations own governments. Unless of course they truly see corporations as people and these corporate people have our best interests in mind?
Michelle Bachmann, step aside.
I am curious, how can she be a Senator in a Republic that doesn’t allow women the right to vote?
Maybe someone should put forth the notion that since the Constitution didn’t specifically repeal the Articles of Confederation, those Articles are still in effect, and that the Constitution is a hoax.
They claim that the Declaration of Independence gives them the right to establish their own nation.
They should do that after they find some tiny island they can survive on.

All we have is this ‘bai-bull’!

We’re heading to Washington state in one month.

female misogyny, is there such thing????……it seems to have become the norm within the radical wingnutospere. many women posters actually supporting a movement that’s against their very health, civil and constitutional rights.
like their policies concerning the middle east, they wish to bomb the american people back to the stone age too

The Fox headline:

This big hike would only be 3-5%, and would just be eliminating the decade-long tax holiday.
Fox needs to push the propaganda.
Salient excerpt from:
So how is it that all amendments beginning with the fourteenth are deemed, by this collection of nutcases, to be invalid and/or unconstitutional? Proposal and ratification procedures, as clearly set forth in the Constitution itself, clearly validate each and every amendment currently in place.
I think wingnuts might oughtta either read the Constitution themselves (assuming any of them can read) or have it read to them (by someone who can read, of course). Not a strong argument in favor of home schooling, that’s for sure.

Funny Romney seems to forget John Kerry lost.
Maybe that’s a good sign that Mitt, too, will lose. I f**king hope so.
He’ll be reminded come November.
He was a bit of a game changer (for better or worse) in corporate America in the 90’s. It was a pretty good book.
Stephen Covey, “7 Habits” author, dies at 79 – Yahoo! News
How very sad. When I was working at the pharmaceutical company, I took his “7 Habits… ” training. It put me on the right path to leave the corporation and start out on my own. Yesterday, I was cleaning out my office and I came across the workbook. I took it apart and threw it away because I felt that I didn’t need it anymore. For the most part, the 7 habits have become incorporated into my life.
May Stephen Covey rest in peace.
Team Obama to Romney: Stop whining
Republicans always whine. Romney thinks that he can run the country like he did Bain Capital. So if he becomes president and is unsatisfied with Congress, is he going to “offshore” and “outsource” elected officials? Is he already getting money from “offshore” businesses? Show us your tax returns, Mitt Romney. What are you hiding?
QOTD I, II:
“It’s not just [Romney’s] arguments that are weak. For the past year, we have watched him be pushed around by the radical GOP fringe. He’s been forced to abjure his most important achievement as governor, his healthcare plan. In December, he was compelled to sign onto the Ryan budget plan after months of squirming to avoid it. Last fall he released an elaborate economic plan. On the eve of the Michigan primary, he ripped it up and instead accepted a huge new tax cut – to a top rate of 28% – that has never been costed (and that he now tries to avoid mentioning whenever he can). Romney has acknowledged in interviews that he understands that big rapid cuts in government spending could push the US economy back into recession. Yet he campaigns anyway on the Tea Party’s false promise that it’s the deficit that causes the depression, rather than (as he well knows) the other way around,” – David Frum.

“Romney now is either the first sole shareholder, chairman, CEO and president of a company in history to claim that he had nothing whatsoever to do with managing that company or he is responsible for the worst practices of Bain,” – Joe Trippi.
Team Mitt and its surrogates are floundering badly:
Krauthammer on Fox today:
“There is not a shred of evidence that Romney participated in any decision, any investment, any phone call, any meeting of any kind after 1999.”
The Boston Globe:
“In 2002, Romney testified that βthere were a number of social trips and business trips that brought [him] back to Massachusetts, board meetingsβ while he was running the Olympics. He added that he remained on the boards of several companies, including the Lifelike Co., in which Bain Capital held a stake until 2001… βHe succeeded in that three-year period in restoring confidence in the Olympic Games … β said Peter L. Ebb from Ropes & Gray, [his lawyer at the 2002 hearing]. βNow while all that was going on, very much in the public eye, what happened to his private and public ties to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts? And the answer is they continued unabated just as they had.β
And for good measure:
“I returned for most of those [board] meetings [at Bain-owned companies] . Others I attended by telephone if I could not return.”
“Not a shred of evidence”? Not a single “phone call”? Do sworn statements under oath not count? And will Krauthammer correct the record? (That’s rhetorical).
Unfortunately they have created an alternate reality where anything reported anywhere but FAUX”News” doesn’t exist. They are doubly dangerous because even the FAUX”News” version of the “truth” is mutable.
Will Krauthammer apologize for lying to the public? I didn’t think so.
Ms. Shannon’s madness is an interesting case. One part that I can’t figure out is why she should stop at Senator. I would think that if one is going to assume leadership of a fictional nation by proclamation one should aim high. “Queen of Atlantis and Empress of the Stars” would actually make more sense.
She lacks vision.

I’m sure we are at terrible risk of being overrun by Republican Guards as soon as they can afford to get on the Lufthansa flight through Frankfurt. They should be able to get their assault weapons once they get to Arizona and then we’d all better watch out!
Jesus wept and how did Wolf (Asshat – Tel-Aviv) take that one?
They will find all the assaults weapons they need in Arizona. It might even be possible to find rockets and other illegal weapons in Arizona, too.
βThey can also reach the moon if they can put it on a rocket and get closer to the moon.β π

Fascinating – she’s all foamed up about how there’s a Muslim Brotherhood turban in the locker of Democratic elected officials the length and breadth of the land (the Muslim brotherhood that have used the mighty weapon-of-mass-desctruction – the ‘ballot box’ to bring Egypt to ‘chaos’ – and we’re next). R.I.P. Kitty. I loved your music.
As the evidence stacks up and virtually the entire northern hemisphere swelters we are forced to ask; has the tipping point passed? In a way, such an event would make truth out of the Reich-wing’s lies that we puny humans can’t affect the climate. It could very well be out of our hands.
It’s a frightening thought and it may well be. After the scorching heat and all the melts comes the ice age. We won’t survive until Jesus comes back again. You would think that the Rapture folks would be concerned about destroying the world before Jesus gets the chance to return.
The religious retard tipping point has been reached.
Even if Jesus did come back, in person, with all the bells, whistles and trumpets; they would question, doubt, deny, dodge and ………… crucify him again.
Indeed. Even if they could get past the long hair, sandals, and dress they would erect a cross the second he said “love”, “compassion”, or “tolerance”.

Affidavit: Spitzer Showed ‘Personal Animus’ Toward AIG’s Greenberg
Maria Bartiromo had Eliot Spitzer on her show Friday night, in order to grill him about these e-mails and whether his zeal in prosecuting Greenberg was personal. Here is the video.
Tonight on Ms.Bartiromo’s show, she again tries to distort his motives in bringing down Greenberg, without him there to defend himself. So he again corrects the record at the conclusion of his show on Current TV.
Personally, I don’t care if Spitzer did have ‘Personal Animus’ against a bankster commiting fraud. If we had more prosecutors dedicated to punishing the guilty and bringing justice to the wronged, our country would be better for it.
We were proud to have Spitzer as NY’s AG. Well, except the sex scandal part.
One of the crew (15) today blurted out (quote) “The bible gives us the right to shoot and kill anything we want to!”
I (driving the van) responded with “Where did you see that? I’ve read it, and I never saw that anywhere!”
He stammered something about Adam and Eve and dominion over the earth, to which I did not respond.
At all. Nothing. Nada. Zip.
π
To be fair, another crew member (also in his teens) and I are engaged in a contest to see who can research and come up with a number for just how many gods there are.
And, finally, after giving a panhandler 2 dollars, and having him say “God bless you sir”, I asked him “Which one?” and leaned in as if I was going to take the 2 dollars back… He as well flinched pitifully, and stammered something unintelligible as I found my tongue and proceeded to verbally make him earn the money.
The only god that I talk to is the Yahtzee God – yes, he exists simply because I believe in him. π
Sweet Jane. I too talk to the Yahtzee God, and on many occasions have proved to my atheist brethen, that she is a winner, and my librulatheisttennisshoewearinfvolvodriving believers fold like a cheap suit before her and her powers.
How sad that someone would interpret dominion over the earth as the right to waste, rather than the responsibility to practice careful stewardship.
If god really wanted man to have dominion over the earth and all its creatures, as interpreted by Raven’s crewmember, why didn’t god just give man guns right then and there?
You’re up late Jane. I reckon God knew guns would not be terribly effective against the larger dinosaurs that Adam was supposed to dominate. π
OIMF it’s the American way. OMG why do you hate America’s rightful dominion over the parasites that suck from that right. Okay I’ve got a headache from writing that. I’ll never be a good rightwinger. *Sniff*
(They) don’t think very far ahead regarding sustainability.

I don’t talk religion, politics or gender issues with these young people. Workplace policy states I don’t have to! They talk about it somewhat, and most know that I know they know I know some things…
And, regarding the panhandler, it was my token weekly contribution in the Safeway parking lot. Many of the beggars are professionals, and if they want money they’re going to have to work for it.
