Yeah, me neither.
Here’s a better shot. 🙂
My fellow travelers swore they could see the Mountain Goats on the rocks with the naked eye. Yeah…right.
They are cute, aren’t they!? This little guy and a friend were in the road, right in front of me, so I stopped to let them get over to the delicious grasses. Thanks for coming close enough for me to see you, Mountain Goats!!
This is our daily open thread — Talk amongst yourselves.
Good morning Critters and Zoosters. Found this on the Twitter this morning.
Just out of curiosity, I wonder if Mitt Romney had any say in his church’s choice of online business. After all, Mitt would just see it as a way to make money. No need to be responsible for anything.

The more I learn about the Mormon church, the more looney I think it is.
Holy flurking schnitt!

Bioluminescent plankton are common in the waters down here.
At night the boat wake leaves a glowing trail.
It’s eerie on a moonless night.
What an amazing story. This is another example of “good” bacteria.
The statue has been put into storage.
Do they plan on pulling it out of storage someday?
They did not say in the article.
Poor pidgeons.
The gutter falcons will have to find a new bathroom.
I like pigeons. 🙂
I don’t know if anyone posted this yesterday, but…
“The suspected shooter’s family, who live in Rancho Penaquitos, released the following statement:
“Our hearts go out to those who were involved in this tragedy and to the families and friends of those involved. We ask that the media respect our privacy during this difficult time Our family is cooperating with authorities in both San Diego, California, and Aurora, Colorado. We are still trying to process this information and we appreciate that people will respect our privacy.”
“those who were involved in this tragedy”?? Ya mean the VICTIMS? The DEAD?
““The suspected shooter’s family, who live in Rancho Penaquitos”
It’s Rancho Penaqsuitos and that’s where my son lives.
Drrr, Penasquitos
Actually, my heart goes out to the shooter’s parents. I know I would be horrified if one of my children commited such a terrible act. They’re going to have to deal with their own issues of guilt, shame and blame for having raised such a “monster.” For all intents and purposes, they’ve lost their son in this tragedy as well.

OMG, I want one!!!
They are cute and they do get bigger.
How much bigger? If they stay close to that size…
They may get as big as a small medium size dog.
OK, even though this is a sponsored site, if you love cute cats and kittens (and I know someone who does), you will absolutely love these pics and gifs.

Make your own Chick-Fil-Gay sandwich!
Looks easy and sounds delicious.
Why are politicians so afraid of the NRA? Any normal members the organization had (moderate gun owners and hunters) left the organization in the 90’s. Their current core constituency is already predisposed to vote against democrats regardless of the politicians’ views on gun control. Sensible gun owners can live without assault rifles or high capacity mags. What does a dem have to lose by advocating for sensible gun regulation? Where does this cowardice come from?
If I recall correctly (subject to verification), many people joined George HW Bush when he resigned his lifetime membership over Wayne LaPierre’s calling ATF agents “jack-booted thugs.”
I can’t verify, but that’s my thought as well. At the same time, NRA sponsored youth hunting safety classes disappeared from my community. At this point NRA is no more than a lobbying arm of the gun and ammunition manufacturing industry. Why not call them out?
I have to go through more BS with the county for a couple of hives than I do to drive to the store and purchase a firearm.
Wow, our county doesn’t care who has a few (or even many) hives. I did notice that during one shopping trip it required id and a signature to buy sudafed, 9mm ammo could be purchased without either.
You’re right about the 9mm and the sudafed.
The media (go figure!) got people conditioned to think that all bees are killers.
Honey is big business because of the orange groves and the Tupelo pollen flow that a lot of commercial guys rely on.
The best way to fight africanization is to put docile bees back into the system and water down the aggressive trait.
We also have a very low incidence of africanization.
Getting a feral hive that isn’t hot is fairly easy down here.
Also, it’s usally too damn hot here to put on all of that clothing.

Where does this cowardice come from?
Remember, Cheney shot a lawyer in the face and the lawyer apologized to him.
For this Sunday morning, nature vs. grace, from Tree of Life:
Sometimes teevee is just teh awesome. This morning on the “History” channel, we have a show that is quite seriously asserting that god is actually aliens. 🙂
They wouldn’t put it on the teevee machine if weren’t true.
Think about the Palin family.
She’s a distant life form. She thinks she’s god and, she got herself her own program.
Nuff said.
QOTD:
“People will talk about unusually lethal weapons, that could be potentially a discussion you could have. But the fact of the matter is there are 30-round magazines that are just common. You simply can’t keep these weapons out of the hands of sick, demented individuals who want to do harm. And when you try to do it, you restrict our freedoms.” — Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin)
My comment on this post on TP:
Sweeet.
Anyone who can’t defend himself with far fewer than 30 rounds has no business possessing a weapon.
Actually, if you need a 30-round clip, you must be expecting either the police or a bunch of other bad guys are coming for you.
Either way, YOU’RE the problem.
Or you’re the world’s worst shot.
But, yeah, you’re still the problem…
Pregnant women are just going to have to start drinking at home.
The tests work best in the morning, so pregnant women will also have to start drinking before breakfast..
I think that would be best. 😉
That might also explain how they got preggers in the first place!
Arapahoe Detention Center inmates would like to have a little chat with James Holmes:
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/aurora-shooting-suspect-james-holmes-jailed-solitary-inmates-talking-killing-article-1.1119173
I’m sure a lot of inmates would like to “chat” with Jerry Sandusky too.

Heh, very clever. 😀
Yep.
Can they ban costumes without running afoul of the 2nd Amendment “right to bare arms?”
Maybe it depends on the costume. Then again, if they banned clothing altogether – so that every one ran around in the altogether, it would be a lot harder to conceal an assault rifle!
I like that idea. Let’s see how well-received it is on the Twitter. 🙂
Westboro baptist doing typical stuff…
What I glean from the picture on that article, is that they don’t pretend not to hate the Jews, unlike the fundygelicals.
Awesome.
I see the goats…upper left of pic, about 3/4″ down from the peak. Two are noshing on something grey in color and nature. Yep, them goats are marvelous!
Yeah right, Hawkeye!
I found this well worth reading.
Jason Alexander on Aurora
That is it, in a nutshell.
Yes it is. Thanks OIMF for finding, and sharing that. Seems so simple to achieve a rational approach to governence of assault weapons, and we used to have some controls, but we’re dealing with maniacs that control the Republican party, and political cowardice on the left. (I need a walk…)
Very well said, Mr Alexander.
How’s this for a lede:
“A man spotted dressed in a goat suit among a herd of wild goats in the mountains of northern Utah…”

Those damn Furries!
Where did Raven say he was? 😉
Well, he took pictures in Northern California for the River Motes post, from Thursday.
Those poor goats…
Oh noes!! A dumpy bar and grill on middle of nowhere Waha Road won’t be serving Pepsi or Miller/Coors products, because those companies support teh gayness.
You morons, you’re on fucking Waha Road. You can’t afford to chase off customers who might stop there by accident on their way to somewhere else. Although you won’t have to worry about your regulars.
I like that they put up a sign, in case people didn’t actually notice the difference. I’m gonna start a rumor that the Waha Bar & Grill is a gay bar.
Michele Bachmann, words have consequences:
Police and federal officials have placed security around ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, after a New Jersey man threatened her, law-enforcement sources said.
An individual, described as a Muslim man, made the unspecified threat after Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) last week claimed Abedin’s family had ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and asked for a probe to see if she is helping the Islamist organization.
Another great victory for the NRA!!
Cop shoots and kills son after reportedly mistaking him for an intruder
Obama will be speaking from Aurora shortly.
Oh Michele, whadda tangled web you weaved. Can we now assume that the Tax Pledge that Norquist had the majority of Republican lawmakers was in reality a Muslim Brotherhood plot?:

Why is she sounding the alarm now? These people have been in this country since 9/11, over ten years ago.
Batshit really dropped the ball here…
“CBS News, quoting industry sources, reported Penn State would receive “unprecedented” punishment for its role in the scandal, including a fine of at least $30 million to perhaps as much as $60 million. CBS reported the fine would go toward an endowment for children’s causes.
For the 2010-11 school year, Penn State’s athletic department had $116 million in revenue, CBS reported.”
“Unprecedented” unfortunately means Penn State will NOT get the “death penalty” and have their football program shit down, for at least one year, because the death penalty has already been used in the past — against SMU.
“football program shit down”
Heh, nice typo, eh? …SHUT down…
Their football program was already shit down. 😉
IMHO, if your primary reason for going to college was to play sports, and not to learn something and to get an education, then you went to college for the wrong reasons.
Many athletes get into sports so they can get sports scholarships, because it’s the only way they can get into college. I can’t hold that against them.
The thing that gripes my ass is that they get 5 years to complete college (in Idaho anyway), and although they are stars on the field, the education is completely wasted on them. And the football stadium at UI got a $10M remodel, while academic programs were being slashed with a fucking machete.
So I kinda see both sides of the issue.
Many athletes get into sports so they can get sports scholarships, because it’s the only way they can get into college. I can’t hold that against them.
Yes, but if the primary reason they went to college was to play sports, then using sports as a way of getting into college was equally wasteful.
If any program needs “shitting” down ( 😉 ), it’s Penn State.
Is the football program death penalty a one-time use sort of thing?
because the death penalty has already been used in the past — against SMU.
Forgive my ignorance about college football, but I don’t understand what this means. They banned SMU for a year and, what, they came back and played football anyway? I’m not understanding why they wouldn’t use the “death penalty” on a program that needs to be rebuilt, in order to remove the stain on its record.
The NCAA has the power to ban a school from competing in a sport for at least one year for various violations. It’s been used 5 or 6 times, usually for recruiting violations. SMU’s football team is the most famous example because of its heritage and the program was shut down for 5 or 6 years.
This was in the late 1980s.
“Maybe I’m a dreamer, but I wish mental health care were as easy to get as, say, a gun.” – Andy Borowitz
Another horrible Palin child coming right up!
Hmmm, I guess my page didn’t refresh and show this.
Great minds!!
Btw, “faggot” is ’embarrassingly’ funny and cute, but “retarded” stirs up a shitstorm.
Did you see that kid’s face after he’d said “faggot,” and auntie and mom are giggling like idiots? He’s clearly looking for guidance that he will never get.
Shame.
The kid got guidance. He obviously learned how to spew epithets from repeated usage in his environment.
Well yeah, but not the sort he needed. I hope these girls laugh just as hard when they visit him in jail.
He’ll be expelled from pre-school and his “parent” will wonder why.
That poor kid got absolute ZEROS for parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.
He doesn’t stand a chance.
Absolute White Trash:

“It’s edgy and funny!! Let’s not edit it out and show it on air!”
I must admit I have a soft spot in my heart for white trash, I’m related to a large number of them. I don’t get the part where we are willing to parade the children’s lack of education across the TV screen for money. It made more sense to me when we aspired to rise above our circumstances, when the first child to graduate from college was something to celebrate, when families longed for education like thirsty folk longed for water. Being ignorant is no sin, seeking to perpetuate that condition is not some thing I can understand.
Just a quick comment before bed.
It seems that the Reichwhiners, especially the subgroup I call Psychochristians, have gone all out blaming the victims of the recent mass shooting and blaming everything but the easy access to military grade weapons designed to fire the maximum amount of lead in the minimum amount of time.
It’s the same every time one of these incidents occurs. If we can blame clothing, music, or the fact that young folks take their children to a midnight movie, we can pretend it would never ever happen to us. False assurance, but it works for those with a lack of imagination.
G’nite Pete.
