  1. Just heard Cecile Richards talking about Planned Parenthood, of course, but also that there is a play about her mom, Ann Richards, about to be on Broadway. How is that for cool?

    • That’s a crap piece of reporting – I still don’t know what facts are in dispute or who is actually correct? ‘Fat Bot eats reporter’ seems to be about it …. the neanderthals who will vote for him will lap that up.

    • Are you kidding, Cats? Christie could splatter a reporter’s brains all over the Jersey boardwalk and his polling numbers would shoot up.

  2. “Worst Republican” voting is down to the final three. Take a second to vote, and remember that any vote for Ryan is a vote for wasting DNCC money. I voted for Michelle, naturally.

  3. Remember the NFL refs? The unionized refs who have been locked out and replaced by scabs? Well… Paul R-Ayn and Scotty Walker have called upon the NFL to work out a deal after the Packers were robbed of a win by a brutally bad call by said scabs. I still think the Dems need to use this situation as a way to get the attention of the countless hordes who care about football and not politics. Why? because the GOoPers are virulently anti-union and, should they get their way, any industry in the country could see the same thing happen to them and society as a whole would pay the price for unqualified scabs replacing skilled professionals.

      • On the final play of the game they missed a blatant pass interference and then called an what most experts called an interception a case of simultaneous possession which went to the offensive player who had committed the pass interference. Then they let the teams go to the locker rooms despite the fact that NFL rules state that a team must kick an extra point if they score with no time on the clock and the refs had to go and get the teams back on the field.

It’s hardly the only fucked up call that’s been made but it’s the first that decided the outcome of a game. In the Vikings game on Sunday they gave two extra reviews and an extra timeout to the 49ers and called a non fumble a fumble but, despite their history, Minnesota managed to overcome the bad officiating. In other games they have called offensive penalties on defenses, marched off the wrong yardage on penalties, and lost control of games.

    • C&L covers this in detail (including one of the most egregious calls in the game).

The NFL – it’s clearly a socialist venture – its got it all, redistrubution of wealth, a false sense of competition where eveen if you have a losign seaosn you can still make the playoffs, weaker teams get help by being given ‘handouts’ of the next good players…. it’s teeming with pinko ideology….

And the Wisconsin Teabaggers standard bearers are weighing in? Wah. Oh the irony.

      • I think it’s rather hilarious that the union busters are calling for the end of a lockout. I just wish i knew who to call to get the Dems to use this. Something like; “Walker and R-Ayn wanted big business to treat their workers like the NFL refs until the Packers got jobbed.”

  4. Jill Fitzsimmons sums up a recent study:

“The Union of Concerned Scientists analyzed six months of Fox News coverage and found that 93% of representations of climate science were “misleading.” These segments either broadly dismissed the scientific consensus that manmade climate change is occurring, or drowned out accurate information on climate science with misleading claims.”

So, here’s a couple of head-shaking pie charts on wingnuts and climate change:

    • Fascinating.

Levitation or “containerless processing” can form pristine samples that can be probed in situ with the high-energy X-ray beam at Argonne’s Advanced Photon Source. “This allows amorphization of the drug to be studied while it is being processed,” said Rick Weber, who works on the project team at the synchrotron.

        • Certainly no expert am I.
          The article explains:

At the molecular level, pharmaceutical structures fall into one of two categories: amorphous or crystalline. Amorphous drugs typically are more efficiently taken up by the body than their crystalline cousins; this is because amorphous drugs are both more highly soluble and have a higher bioavailability, suggesting that a lower dose can produce the desired effect.

The amorphous drugs can be studied in a purer state (suspended) – not having touched the side of a beaker or dish to change it, even ever so slightly, to a crystalline state.

          That was my interpretation.
          Fascinating.

  5. QOTD:

“Now that [the ending of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is] done, we should not reverse it. I think that would be a step in the wrong direction because people have already disclosed themselves. I think this issue is past us. It’s done. And I think we need to move on,” – Paul Ryan.

  6. There’s a story floating around out there that Elizabeth Warren practiced law in MA without a license, and that she admitted it. Well, she didn’t. She said she doesn’t have a license to practice law in MA, which the wingnuts are jumping all over, but merely being an attorney present in MA doesn’t mean she’s a practicing attorney in MA.

Here’s the info on the latest nonsense: http://abovethelaw.com/2012/09/an-update-on-the-elizabeth-warren-law-license-controversy/

If a man around 50 loses a glove this time of year, good luck finding a store that is selling men’s gloves this time of year. Of course, Macy’s was, and offered a nice Cashmere-lined number to the tune of $70. No thanks. Not for something I lose so easily.

    Sigh.

    /rant off

I’d do the internet, but gloves are one of those things that are difficult to size (for me anyway). Sometimes it’s a large fits (like a glove)… sometimes it’s the extra-large. (You know what they say about big hands. Big gloves.)

Anyway… I’m hopeful the missing glove will turn up as I actually liked this pair.

  8. Allen West attempts to garner more votes in the worst republican contest with this response to President Obama’s address to the UN:
“My statement to the United Nations would have been, “The future does not belong to those who attack our Embassies and Consulates and kill our Ambassadors. The Angel of Death in the form of an American Bald Eagle will visit you and wreak havoc and destruction upon your existence””

    • West continued – “The future belongs to all Americans that are non muslim, literal bible translators, rich and of course, white – or at least kinda white – well at least support the rich white people.”

  9. Brit friend of mine sent this to me:

John Cleese – British writer, actor and tall person

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Syria and have therefore raised their security level from “Miffed” to “Peeved.” Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to “Irritated” or even “A Bit Cross.” The English have not been “A Bit Cross” since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from “Tiresome” to “A Bloody Nuisance.” The last time the British issued a “Bloody Nuisance” warning level was in 1588 when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

The Scots have raised their threat level from “Pissed Off” to “Let’s get the Bastards.” They don’t have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.

The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from “Run” to “Hide.” The only two higher levels in France are “Collaborate” and “Surrender.” The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France’s white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country’s military capability.

Italy has increased the alert level from “Shout Loudly and Excitedly” to “Elaborate Military Posturing.” Two more levels remain: “Ineffective Combat Operations” and “Change Sides”.

The Germans have increased their alert state from “Disdainful Arrogance” to “Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs.” They also have two higher levels: “Invade a Neighbour” and “Lose.”

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels .

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

Australia, meanwhile, has raised its security level from “No worries” to “She’ll be alright, Mate.” Two more escalation levels remain: “Crikey! I think we’ll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!” and “The barbie is cancelled.” So far no situation has ever warranted use of the last final escalation level.

A final thought – ” Greece is collapsing, the Iranians are getting aggressive, and Rome is in disarray. Welcome back to 430 BC”.

      • I saw Cleese in a one man show a year or two ago… he was earning money for alimony for his last wife. In the Q and A, someone asked him about silly walking. He said he still gets asked all the time to do it, but as age, arthritis and bad knees have gotten to him, he said that he just can’t do it anymore. It was a funny show, at one point, he rolled up one of his pant legs and left it that way for the remainder of the show. He’s a funny man.

  10. On Monday afternoon, November 5th, I’m planning a graveside service for the Rmoney campaign.
Several of my close friends and I will dig a small, very small, rectangular pit. About 8 inches deep and the typical coffin width & length in a common area near our place.
We’ll say kind things about his daffy style, inability to articulate anything meaningful to desperate low information voters hanging on his every word for some crumb that would indicate any plan to do anything.
We’ll each shovel dirt onto his candidacy, inwardly smiling but outwardly stoic.
For he is trapped in the soulless place where, in order to entice people to vote for him, he must give details about how the tax cuts will reduce federal coffers.
How those dwindling coffers will requre draconian cuts to every type of program that serves people, but not cut programs that benefit the MIC.
How the deficit will spiral up even faster.
How the impact on state and local government layoffs will send us into the depths of depression.

Alas Romneyville shacks, we’ll never know ye.

    • Hmm..
“Reed’s master plan calls for more than 5,000 volunteers to make contact with millions of voters in person, with 25 million voter guides being distributed at 117,000 churches around the country before Election Day.”

Hmmm. Can we notify the IRS and demand that these churches should be losing their tax exempt status!

      • Living in the land of Batscat I am continually amazed at how much campaigning is done from the pulpit without so much as a peep of concern from the local press/media. I suspect that the majority of local editors go to the same churches.

      • What I don’t understand is why do people send their hard earned money to people like Ralph Reed? They do the same thing with the 300 Club and all those other televangelists. If honesty wasn’t one of my better qualities, I might consider starting a preaching business. The famous preachers are all scam artists that prey on stupid and insecure people. “You too, can be saved if you send me your money.” And people do it.

  11. Dueling conspiracy theories on parade. I realize that it’s pointless to ascribe logic to these freaks but I have to wonder if they are convinced of the contradictory “facts” that are competing here. Are they asserting that someone with a communist for a father is ineligible to be president? If Frank Marshall Davis was President Obama’s real father wouldn’t that destroy any argument that he is not eligible?

    http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/alabama-gop-chairman-promotes-fringe-birther-movie-calls-it-factual-and-frightening

  12. OK, first time for me: just signed off on an invoice for $164,000. And the weirder part is that my total budget is around $450,000. What idiot trusts me with all this money?

  13. So. Obama’s real father wasn’t a Kenyan after all, he was a nigger commie; also, Romney sucks. Oh, and Jesus was married which means he probably got laid a time or two. Add to that “…the aggressive nature of the secularists who have dedicated themselves to redefining America and eradicating every vestige of our godly heritage” and then what? Oh yeah, our washing machine went on the blink today. Predictable I guess, given all the above. But Holy Shit, what a week! We’re all doomed, looks like.

  15. Damned “librul” 8th graders! Poor Mr. Grimm. He seemed quite pleased to paint himself and “democracy” as victims of a politically motivated attack. And I don’t know how the fact that his own words were reported counts as some sort of proof that the “librul media” is out to get him. Heck! He all but claimed that his opponent was behind the vandalism of his campaign HQ.

    http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/09/teen_admits_vandalizing_grimm_office.php?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+tpm-news+%28TPMNews%29

Here’s what he said, and what was reported, yesterday.

“This is a disgraceful act of cowardice that is beneath the people I represent,” Grimm said. “Here in Staten Island, we are a family community, which is why, despite our differences in opinions and political views, we have never seen an attack on a campaign escalate to this level. In 2010, campaigns across the nation were fueled with high levels of passion, yet even then we never saw anything as dirty or disgraceful as this. Even though this is not an official office, this heinous act represents an assault on democracy and the political process, more so than it does on me as person or a candidate. I do believe this is a politically motivated crime, and will continue to work closely with the NYPD in identifying and prosecuting those responsible.”

    • I don’t know if it is an issue that Beth had to put an ad up there, but if Wall St Boy has nothing else but that to go after well he is in trouble.

She’s got a good message: do you vote for Brown and give the Senate to the Teabaggers? Do you want the Teabaggers controlling the next SCOTUS appointee agenda? He’s got nowt. I did see that Beth’s CPA won a big case against Citigroup I think and is giving $200m back to people who were diddled out of money by false advertising. What has Wall St Poser Boy done that comes up to that?

  16. President Obama is slowly increasing his lead in the polls. Several House and Senate races have moved towards democrats. Several news anchors have taken to calling out right-wing liars. Best of all, FAUX”News” is suffering from reduced ratings and many of those viewers appear to be moving to MSNBC. Is it too soon to hope that the monstrously bad Mittens campaign is finally getting the message to the low information voters?

I realize that Bushco and that awful woman from Alaska should have been sufficient proof that the GOP can’t be trusted but Mittens appears to be hammering the nails in the coffin at a prodigious rate. I’m feeling cautiously optimistic since the teabaggers invaded the House in 2010.

  17. How are the falcons doing, Ebb? I shared a thermal with a Red-Tailed Hawk for about 20 minutes this morning. It’s always a good day when I can entertain the local wildlife. I’m just glad that the local raptors are more curious than hostile. Some of the birds in Australia and S.E. Asia have been known to take down models. Apparently, there’s a crow near Perth that is an ace with 7 “kills”!

    • Apparently, there’s a crow near Perth that is an ace with 7 “kills”!

That’s hilarious, well not for the pilot of course, crows are in charge…and will let you know it!

That has to be a thrill to share the thermal with raptors!
Nice the RT felt a kindred spirit (of flight) in you, the land locked primate!

        • Reading the writing on the wall, Ryan is setting the stage for 2016.

Give Sarah a call Paul, maybe she can hook you up with a pulp fiction publisher.

            • I don’t mean to sound like a school marm, but this is SO disrespectful to Mitt Romney.

I don’t have an ounce of respect for Mitt Romney, but Paul Ryan is the VP pick — for some stupid reason — and it’s his job to at least pretend that he respects Mitt.

              It’s disgusting.

            • I was merely thinking of the implications it has for the election, I wasn’t imagining respect being a plank of the Republican platform.
Romney obviously doesn’t have any respect for anyone, so why should his VP?
Granted, if one works as a subordinate, they need to respect the supervisors position. Respect for the person is optional. If you’re going to survive, any distinction between the two needs to be carefully maintained.
I’m not particularly concerned with Ryan’s survival, that’s his business.

          • I don’t have an ounce of respect for Mitt Romney, but Paul Ryan is the VP pick — for some stupid reason — and it’s his job to at least pretend that he respects Mitt.

Watching the Repugnant Party’s implosion is mind boggling.
As you pointed out – Ryan’s thoughts should be just that and not vocalized.
The arrogance from the ‘upper class men’, of that party, knows no bounds not even for their own.

            • I love this bit:

A word about PowerPoint. PowerPoint was released by Microsoft in 1990 as a way to euthanize cattle using a method less cruel than hitting them over the head with iron mallets. After PETA successfully argued in court that PowerPoint actually was more cruel than iron mallets, the program was adopted by corporations for slide show presentations.

Conducting a PowerPoint presentation is a lot like smoking a cigar. Only the person doing it likes it. The people around him want to hit him with a chair.

              I totally agree, Roger Simon.
