Republicans, what part of this do you fail to understand? No, we’re not asking you if you like it or think it’s good (by your standards) — that’s been decided. Whether or not you like, accept, or understand it, Barack Obama is still our President.
“We” includes you, Republicans, so lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way, because we’re still trying to clean up your messes.
This is our daily open thread — Who else is beyond done with the WHINING?
Being up early, as usual, I checked to make sure I hadn’t dreamed the end of the Alabama game last night, then I started channel surfing for something to keep me occupied until UP comes on. I wound up on Book TV on CSpan2 and there was Chrystia Freeland, doing a presentation for her book, “Plutocrats: the Rise of the New Global Super-Rich and the Fall of Everyone Else” done on 10-23-12. The discussion is an hour, but it might make you interested in reading her book. Check it out if you can spare some time.
Early line on ‘Bama-Notre Dame is Bama by 8.5?

Yep Roll Tide!!…..i hate fucking Notre Dame
My idea for making auto racing really competitive:
Combine F1 and Iron Chef.
http://www.wikihow.com/Cook-Food-on-Your-Car's-Engine
I’m still working on the details about what constitutes first place.
Suggestions:
F1 engine – frying only, too hot for anything else
Nascar engine – broiling
Family car/pickup truck – slow roasting and baking
Sous chefs for pit crews!
Gareth Blackstock can be President of the Association, and Gordon Ramsay can be Director of Competition.
I think society is collapsing.
Cracker Jack doesn’t come in a cardboard box anymore
Hostess has gone bankrupt.
Bazooka Joe is being retired.
The President is black.
The first three items have me concerned.
Is the collapse of society item one, or the premise exhibited by the four following items?
A few years ago I tried a box of Cracker Jacks, and they were about the same as forty-plus years before. I’ve never eaten Hostess products, because we have Little Debbie here in the South, and I quit chewing gum decades ago.
Last time I had a piece of Bazooka joe gum was for halloween several decades ago. It was awful
Likewise with the Hostess products.
What kind of person is the result of going through life with the name Veronique de Rugy?
The kind of person who needs to be on offense all of the time? I agree with what Bruce Bartlett said to her!
You can almost always determine the Conservative guest by process of elimination on UP. This morning it’s her.
We spent last evening watching, via Netflix streaming, the first three hours or so of a multi-part (4-5 hour) biography of Franklin Roosevelt. One thing kept striking me like a sledge: the Republicans then were every bit as goddamned stupid, idiotic, mean-spirited, and greedy as they are today, and their anti-FDR tactics were scarcely a whit different from what they’re today using on Obama, and the nation is enduring extremely similar consequences in result!
Will they ever learn? Apparently the answer is a resounding NO.
There was included a film snippet from a campaign speech given on October 31, 1936, a speech in which Roosevelt said (highlight added, sort of):
I would love nothing more than to hear Obama speak those lines today, as if they were his own (and in a sense they basically ARE his own, given that absolutely NOTHING has changed in EIGHTY FUCKING YEARS!)
Why the hell do we as a nation continue to put up with Republicans and their crap? Are we really, collectively, that STUPID?? If anyone ever figures that one out, feel free to let it fly!
It is rather interesting that we have a long history of fictional entertainment in books and movies that are quite popular, depicting the evil schemes of the rich and powerful who want to take over the US, at a minimum, or the world.
That is is more than ample evidence of that sort of activity in real life is relegated to tin foil hat fantasy. The rich and powerful would never actually try and do anything like that.
Are we really, collectively, that STUPID??
YES
Indubitably!
That is the word that my brothers used to ask me to say when I was a wee little girl. I still have difficulty pronouncing ‘indubitably’.
but ‘indubitably’ has more than two syllables!
Oh, and if you say ‘indubitably’ really fast, no one can really tell if you’re pronouncing it correctly or not.
My PA Dutch gets in the way.
My kid brother, an electrical engineer, has a similar problem with rhinoceros.
Huh?
😆
That word always make me think of Lolly’s
Schoolhouse Rock is an utterly ingenious way for learning!
There is a diary on the front page of Kos detailing why raising the Social Security eligibility age is a bad idea. The information that shocked me is…
The average male life expectancy at 65 has risen 1.5 years between 1982 and 2006 for those in the bottom half of earnings distribution. For those in the top half, life expectancy increased 5.4 years.
I’ve always felt that lowering the retirement age would add more of an economic boost as it provides openings for upward mobility of younger employees .
Howard Kurtz is massively sucking up to his new boss Jeffrey Zucker, the incoming President of CNN Worldwide, on his show Reliable Sources. He’s just going to vault CNN to the top of the cable news ratings!
Yeah right. I’ll believe it when Rupert dismantles Fox in a dementia-fueled hissyfit, and MSNBC fires all their primetime hosts, because Comcast decides to go full-corporate propaganda.
Kurtz gleefully brings up Tom Ricks’ stint on Fox, calling Fox as “operating as a wing of the Republican Party”, and how he wouldn’t go on MSNBC the next day, because ‘you’re just like Fox, but not as good at it.’
Kurtz invited Ricks back to his show, but he declined that too.
(Presumably because as bad as MSNBC might be, they’re still better than CNN!)
Obviously, Mr. Ricks doesn’t watch Rachel or Lawrence O’Donnell. Neither of them are in the habit of lying or shouting over their guests.
Interesting how fate takes a pause every now and then, how it sometimes acts to “save” the world (from itself, actually) rather than destroy it. I mean, hey, at least Jeffrey Zucker has become a NEWS media big shot. I mean, WHAT IF he’d become, say, a poultry executive instead? And suppose that his poultry enterprise had come up with a new and interesting breed of chicken to be used by both egg people and by supermarket meat counter people? What then?
I mean, that sort of stuff suggests that there is, indeed, a God out there in charge of things — a God that ‘knows’ implicitly that it’s better to put Jeffrey Zucker in charge of CNN than it would be to send him instead into the chicken industry.
I mean, think of it. What if Jeffrey might have, in that ‘other’ potential employ, come up with a new breed of chicken? Imagine a world where the poultry industry might become ‘defined’ by the two most important chickens in the world: the Hen Zucker, and the Cock Zucker!
Yep. there must be a God. Really. 🙂
I ain’t believing I set you up for that! 😀
Yesterday evening I decided to plow through the petitions to the government at WhiteHouse.gov. I was not the least bit surprised that a great many of them are crazy nor was I surprised that all the petitions for secession appear to have been composed by the same person. But? This one really stood out.
STOP White Genocide through halting MASSIVE non-white immigration into EVERY white country and ONLY white countries.
The funny part is that, based on my experiences in Two Harbors, Minnesota, I would say that there’s about a 95% chance that this racist fool has never even met a person who is a member of a minority unless one counts Catholics as a minority group.

My apologies if this has been mentioned but how did I miss this one? I think what Mr. Farah is saying is that President Obama stole the election in order to set off civil strife so that he can take away our guns. Or something. It’s really hard to figure out what these freaks actually mean or if they know themselves.

Mention the NRA and I only need to see one possible outcome of any story: Will it sell more guns and ammo? If so, then you have the most plausible motive where the NRA is concerned.
Also the most plausible ‘reason’ to relieve gun-toting nutcases of their gun ownership/possession “privileges.”
To CLARIFY THE SECOND AMENDMENT! should be an ongoing and purposeful task of the non-dead everywhere. No one in their right mind could, after all, ever imagine that the Founders had in mind today’s NRA “philosophy” when they wrote the Second Amendment. The Founders were NOT, after all, NUTS.
Who says there’s never a cop around when you need one?
Looks like Momma Duck is thanking the nice lady Police officer!
Let’s hope the trolly stops. Besides, what is a Mallard and her chicks doing in the city?

New post below, this one on MUSHROOMS! rather than on politics. 😉
Only the Pleurotus ostreatus, Sparissus crisspa and Boletus edulis are edible. 🙂
Any identities you or anyone else might be able to supply in re the posted photos would be GREATLY appreciated! I’ve plowed through, several times and over again, the National Audubon Society’s “Field Guide to Mushrooms”, always with only marginal success.
I went out for a brief flying session after the pathetic Vikings game and saw something I’ve never seen before. There was a guy out mulching leaves with his mower. In December. In freakin’ Minnesota!
If global warming wasn’t a hoax i might start to think that there’s something screwy with the climate. I’ve decided to ignore the new grass shoots that have sprung up in the bare dirt left from some landscaping that was done in November. In freakin’ Minnesota!
I almost worked on leaves, but it was warm enough to wash the hackberry sap off my car, which needed to be done because today was probably the last day before colder weather. I can get up leaves in cooler temps than 73. Now I can tell I have a blue car again!
I can’t wait for the BCS selection show, so I can find out which bowl Alabama plays in. 😀
This afternoon, here at 6000 ft elevation and just seven miles from the base of the Rocky Mountain front range — December 2, 2012 — the afternoon temp hit 77 degrees. I took a walk this morning. It was clear and sunny, and neither the Wet Mountains to the west nor Pikes Peak (including its 14,000 ft summit) to the north had more than the most sparse ‘teacups’ full of snow on them. Our local lake, the area’s water supply, is ten feet down from its high point. We’ve had no rain … zero, zip, nada … in months, and no snow this fall; everything in the landscape is brown; the stream in Greenhorn Valley is dry; the nine hole ‘western’ course, adjacent to the regular 18 hole country club course hasn’t been watered at all since mid-summer and is dried and brown. If this keeps up, if there’s no more precip in the high country in the next six months than there’s been in the last six, next summer’s fires will be unreal. Of course, no one need worry, the lake will be dry and everyone will have had to move away, so what’s the problem?
Good thing global warming and climate change is a left wing hoax. Oh, wait … the world is ending in what, 19 days? That will be a relief!
Boehner keeps throwing around the word ‘serious’ and he reminds me of someone…
Geeze, I’ve had it with WordPress. That’sit.
You cannot be serious, man.
My iPhone screws up the WP replies if they get too lengthy or too many to one post. I don’t have any trouble with the desktop.
Hey, at least some of the time, Mac was in the right!
Roger isn’t going to like this. Not one bit. Hmmmm, is there an on-air spot lower than weekend FAUX”Friends”?

I don’t know why replies are truncating words. I’ll take it up with the Critters and see if one of us is smart enough to figure it out.
Whatever it is, I’m not affected by it. I’m running Windows7, and Google Chrome, if that narrows down the options.
I’m not affected and I’m on XP and Google Chrome.
This only happens when using Firefox. I’ve had issues before with Firefox and WordPress and I have had issues with Chrome and other web apps. This is why I use two browsers on my Macbook.
Same here. Windows 7 with Chrome. No problems.
Way too cute.
There’s a ZEBRA in the zoo.
? Hasn’t there always been?
Cancel that ZEBRA.
Northern Illinois is playing Florida State in the Orange Bowl, and the ESPN twits are pissed!
Oregon vs Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl, aka the Woulda Coulda BCS Championship?
Wisconsin vs. Stanford in the Grandaddy. Don’t sell this matchup short, the Badgers destroyed Nebraska last night!
Nebraska did try – at least they got on the board for 31 points.
WI just kept on scoring!
——–
Why were the ESPN dolts pissed about the Orange Bowl participants?
Northern Illinois got in as a conference champion from a non-automatic qualifying conference, ranked 16th or better, and ranked ahead of an automatic qualifying conference champion. This is the first time this happened with a team that wasn’t undefeated, like Boise State or Hawaii.
I payed against Northern Illinois — 40 years ago. Heh.
My brother-in-law is an NIU grad and is pretty excited. But NIU has to go to Florida and play perennial power Florida St., and NIU lost their head coach. It could get ugly.
payed = played.
WordPress sucks also too.
What school is Gary Herstein teaching at now? Isn’t it NIU?
No idea.
The other comment doesn’t have a ‘reply’.
Gary teaches at Southern Illinois University Carbondale
Thanks Ebb! I couldn’t remember. SIU and not NIU.
Very cool digital art.

Watching the ESPN Bowl Selection Show, this flashed across the bottom of my screen, Sanchez benched, McElroy leads Jets past Cardinals
What happened? Why didn’t they play Tebow? 😀
I thought I heard something about Tebow being on Injured reserve, but I’ve never quite understood what that meant. Can they play or not?
Tebow was inactive due to his broken ribs. It does make one wonder if Sanchez would have been yanked if Tebow had suited up. Given the year that Sanchez has had I’m starting to think that Ryan isn’t happy with having God-boy shoved down his throat. But how would I know? The only time I’ve actually seen Tebow play he was carving up the Vikings like the second coming of John Elway.

But. But. But it doesn’t count when there’s a black guy in the White House!
