January 21, 1013: Happy Inauguration Day & Martin Luther King Holiday

This is our open thread.  We might as well discuss all the ways the RWNJs lose their minds today.  The insanity should start bright an early.Image

  1. Four years ago today, I had a foot surgery. I can remember that because the day before I watched Obama sworn in for his first term.

    • Twelve years ago today, I was in the hospital recovering from brain surgery. I know because the one thing I can remember enjoying that day was sleeping through Dubsy’s first inaugural, all of it, wondering why the hell the god’s kept me alive through all that sawing and snipping. Just so I could watch the inaugural? No thanks, guys, I said. Go pick on somebody your own size for once. 😯

  2. Anyone else watching Current’s pre-inaugural coverage? Jennifer Granholm and John Fugelsang are anchoring, with David Shuster and Bill Press out on the Mall.

Jennifer looks good in red. Did I tell you folks that?

  3. What a beautiful looking family. Just look at all the gray hair on Barack’s head. The job of POTUS tends to age people. Other than dismantling bombs, I can’t think of another job that is more stressful than President.

  4. I managed to get the live feed going just before Biden swore his oath, so I did get to see Obama and, as everyone noted, his beautiful family. Listened to James Taylor, then had to turn it off. I wish I had gotten to hear the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. 😦

  5. Full text of the President’s inaugural speech here.

Together, we determined that a modern economy requires railroads and highways to speed travel and commerce; schools and colleges to train our workers.

Together, we discovered that a free market only thrives when there are rules to ensure competition and fair play.

Together, we resolved that a great nation must care for the vulnerable, and protect its people from life’s worst hazards and misfortune.

(Emphasis mine.) I put the emphasis on “together,” because that’s what being American means: We’re all in this together, and let’s work together to make a good life and a great country for all of us.

Of course, this is socialistic fascism, and the Kenyan Usurper still wants to destroy our country. 🙄

    • White Man makes big mess.

White Man makes Black Man clean up White Man’s mess.

White Man does everything he can to make it impossible for Black Man to clean up White Man’s mess.

White Man blames Black Man for mess.

    • Thanks for mentioning that. I had to go back and look.
I don’t think Cantor is as tall as Pelosi, and Obama is six inches taller than Boner. No wonder they can’t negotiate with him.

      • Once I noticed how short they were, I looked at the other side of the table, and noticed that Biden and Reid look like giants next to them! Then the President stood up.

I think you’re right about why those little men can’t negotiate with Obama! 😆

  6. Whatever MSNBC is doing with their picture transmission, I wish they would keep doing it. I can see the top on-screen graphics as well as the Tweets at the bottom, on the most in-proportion viewing option on my TV. Usually the Tweets are cut off the bottom.

  7. Last night, I went to a fun dinner with a bunch of Democrats. Sitting across the table from me was the PA senator that represents my district. She is a state senator and not a federal senator. I asked her about the bills in the PA state legislator that will change how the Electoral College votes will be distributed. She told me that a lawsuit is in the works. That’s good news. A lawsuit stopped the PA Voter ID law and hopefully this lawsuit will put an end to the GOP’s attempt at stealing the Presidential election.

  8. At least there is consistency in the universe. Bill0 is predicting the same “disaster” he predicted 4 years ago and the “librul media” just can’t figure out why President Obama won’t compromise with the GOoPers.

  9. The President wasn’t too busy to send me an e-mail:

    (Ebb)
I just renewed my oath of office to serve as your president for four more years.

Thank you for making this possible. It’s an honor to be your president.

Now it’s time to finish what we started — let’s get going.

    Barack

P.S. — Organizing for Action is the next step in our grassroots movement and will be crucial to finishing what we started. If you haven’t already, say you’ll be part of it.

  10. The President really seems to be savoring this day, which shows how much he respects the importance of his presidency.

He doesn’t take it for granted, and act like it’s his due. Unlike the pseudo-royal Romneys and their “It’s our turn” attitude.

    • Just heard, on the local news, the crowd was estimated at 800,000, less than the million plus of four years ago –

Still much more than GWB’s 300,000 second term inaugural crowd.

  11. Aparently Belichick isn’t the only sore loser on the Pats:

On her Facebook page Sunday night, Anna Burns Welker, Wes’s wife, said: “Proud of my husband and the Pats. By the way, if anyone is bored, please go to Ray Lewis’ Wikipedia page. 6 kids 4 wives. Acquitted for murder. Paid a family off. Yay. What a hall of fame player! A true role model!”

      • I was ok with no hockey. And the wife was glad to not see it. Now though, I can’t help but watch. Damn Sharks beat my Flames. For the Flames, it’s same-old, same-old: Score once, get out shot, and have enough defensive lapses to loose the game!

  12. At least I don’t have to chew on nicorettes, I will go and smoke a ciggie. I am still down to two a day, so I think that’s ok.

  13. They really are that stupid. A local radio show caller thinks that President Obama set his inauguration to coincide with MLK’s birthday. I had to turn it off before I got mad but I bet he also whines about the constitution though he obviously has never read nor understood it.

  14. Looks like I have some video to watch. We have a classy President. In other news, I done been NASCARed. Spent the day wiring up what I learned was a pit cart made by CTech. Its a giant portable toolbox with a viewing stand on top.

    • Hey, when will we get Danica for the F1? I want someone new to be a fan of, there’s only so many seasons Webber can still drive, and there’s not a male in my sights that I would want to support. Or should I ask HoR?

  15. Well well. At least Mrs. Welker knows how to phrase an apology.

“I’m deeply sorry for my recent post on Facebook. I let the competitiveness of the game and the comments people were making about a team I dearly love get the best of me. My actions were emotional and irrational and I sincerely apologize to Ray Lewis and anyone affected by my comment after yesterday’s game.

“It is such an accomplishment for any team to make it to the NFL playoffs, and the momentary frustration I felt should not overshadow the accomplishments of both of these amazing teams.”

  16. It’s still wonderful.
