Sunday Roast – Eurovision 2013

I watch that every year. The Swiss get regularly booted out before the finals, but every once in a while there is controversy or even something worthwhile listening to. This year the controversy was around Turkey refusing to participate, because one song act had two girls kissing at the end. After all those little islamist willies will crumble and fall off, if they have to watch that. They didn’t miss much, though.

We had the predicted outcome. Europeans liked this song:

Sad really, when we once, in 2007, had liked this:

Ah well.

This is our Open Thread. Please proceed….

  1. I like the top one. It has Celtic accents that appeal to me.

I think the guy in the bottom one gargles acid to get his voice to sound like that.

  2. The Turks who refused to participate because of what an act from another country did at an international competition should just stay home and never leave Turkey. If you seriously have a problem with stuff like that, then the proper response is to show you’re better by winning without doing something like that. And if you can’t do that, then maybe your way of life really isn’t “better” than anyone else’s.

  3. Virginia is about to test the theory that “Romney/Ryan lost because they just weren’t conservative enough”. In order to ensure the nomination of our current Kooky AG over the more moderate current LG for governor, the R’s chose to select their candidates by convention rather than their usual primary. Our primaries are open, so anyone can vote. I often vote in Republican primaries, the R’s win frequently enough that I want to make sure they choose a sane candidate. Only hard core R folks attend a convention in Richmond, and it’s easier for a small group of extremists to have a greater influence. As expected, the Republican nominee for Governor is Ken Cuccinelli. who has spent his term as AG fighting Obamacare, harassing climate scientists, and working hard to keep sodomy illegal. To what I suspect is Kooky’s great horror, the nominee for Lt. Governor is this guy.

  4. This is an ad from E.W. Jackson’s failed Senate campaign. I’m sorry, you have to watch a few seconds of ads at the beginning of it, but it’s worth it for the extra Tea Party crazy.

    • Good thing no one ‘axed’ him about Women’s health care, or about voting rights. Or about Social Security, for that matter. Education? Head Start?

Chop chop chop chop chop . . . what an idiot.

    • You’re tweeting at the Rube? I used one of her tweets once to denigrate her with the senior editor at the Washington Post. He said and that’s a quote, “I have nothing to do with Mrs Rubin”. In the context this sounded exasperated enough. She’s so pathetic. Lately I weaned myself from her blog, I can’t deal with her pet commenter Jill. I highly suspect Jill is either Rubin herself or a paid shill and after a while it gets boring to cuss her out.

    • It shows these mammals are not really just ruthless killing machines but they also have complex, caring social-structures in which they and care for their own disabled members.

That’s why it is so very sad to see a lone Orca being ‘trained’ and put on display in circuses called ‘Sea World’.

  5. Because “everyone” (white) knows that’s what black people do. They intimidate everyone (the whites).

McConnell: ‘There is a culture of intimidation throughout the administration’ | The Ticket – Yahoo! News

Republican Senators Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell and Rob Portman continued Sunday to press the Obama administration on the Internal Revenue Service scandal that’s engulfed the White House.
On CNN’s “State of the Union,” Paul told Candy Crowley he heard about a “written policy” that encouraged IRS officials to target “those who are critical of the president.”

  6. “Paul told Candy Crowley he heard about a “written policy”

Fuck you and your strawman, candyass. If there’s a written policy and then track it down. Otherwise, STFU.

“No one expects you to take a vow of poverty. But I will say it betrays a poverty of ambition if all you think about is what goods you can buy instead of what good you can do,” – Barack Obama, one of the most consistently Christian presidents in modern times.

  8. Greetings from Le Roy, Illinois! *snore*

We should be in Louisville tomorrow, and I am SO ready to be on the return trip. Traveling with an 80 year old with dementia is getting rather exhausting.

      • I’m helping my friend Sandy drive her elderly sister to their other sister’s home in Kentucky, so that sister can take over caring for the older sister.

Now that we’re almost there, the KY sister is acting all pissy and angry, like it wasn’t her idea to take the older sister. Whatever. We’re not taking the older sister back with us.
