President George Bush celebrated his election in 1988 with a bird-killing spree at the Lazy F Ranch near Beeville, Texas. When questioned about it, he protested “These aren’t animals, these are wild quail.”

It’s amazing what the conservative mind can convince itself is true.

Great photos, frugal. Many more thanks to your friend, Denny.

    • Interesting, the use of words ‘George Bush’ and ‘conservative mind’ on the same page! Talk about a massive non-sequitor!

Seriously though, there must be a major portion of the brain in Wingnuts that’s either dead or never existed in the first place. Fascinating how it is that, e.g. quail, are so much more intelligent and useful than the majority of the US House. Wonder what the founders would say if they could come back for a day or two and observe the massive idiocy there?

On the matter of Denny’s photos, what comes through loud and clear to me is his passion, his absolute love of the natural world. He borders on being absolutely unique in that regard. Would there were many many more like him . . . and orders of magnitude LESS who are like George Bush.

‘It is wonderful how much time good people spend fighting the devil. If they would only expend the same amount of energy loving their fellow men, the devil would die in his own tracks of ennui.’

  3. From TPM:

Gov. Perry (R-Mansplainia): I was “praising” Wendy Davis when I said it was unfortunate she didn’t learn any lessons from being a teenage mother.

    Uh huh.

    • Daily Kos has a video clip in which Wendy Davis gives some detail about her autobiography. It may not be the time for her to run for governor but she’s got the best back story a PR firm could ask for. Talk about pulling yourself up by your bootstraps! And, yes, she’s attractive and speaks well, has the whole Texas slightly-weathered blonde thing without the drawl. We have not heard the last of Wendy Davis.

  4. QOTD:

“George Stark, you lying little bitch. I am gonna f%#@ you up … I want all of my followers and beyond to straighten out this fucking little bitch, George Stark. @MailOnline … My wife and I attend a funeral to pay our respects to an old friend, and some toxic Brit writes this fucking trash … If put my foot up your fucking ass, George Stark, but I’m sure you’d dig it too much … I’m gonna find you, George Stark, you toxic little queen, and I’m gonna fuck…you…up.” — Alec Baldwin, in a Twitter meltdown after journalist accuses his wife of tweeting during James Gandolfini’s funeral yesterday.

I can understand the man’s rage at a reporter, but what’s with the anti-gay shit from a pro-gay liberal??

  5. From TP Rick Perry says:

Perry echoed his earlier remarks, saying that it’s “sad that she does not understand that every life is precious, certainly her own.”

Says the guy who executes people. Sigh.

  6. According to his father, Edward Snowden is willing to return to the US if he’s given bail, not subject to gag order, can choose the location of his trial, the jury members, the judge, and is given a pony.

    • Gun kick back was stronger than he expected. He shouldn’t feel bad, I busted a pair of glasses target shooting once. Come to think of it, that was the last time I had a gun in my hand!

  7. Sooner or later this will come up, so here it is:

Kyle Petty on Danica Patrick: ‘She’s not a racecar driver’

Former Sprint Cup driver Kyle Petty doesn’t consider himself a great racecar driver.

But it is probably safe to assume he thinks he was better than Danica Patrick.

Petty, speaking on Speed’s Race Hub program, questioned Patrick’s ability, saying “she’s not a racecar driver.”

Junior Disagrees With Kyle Petty On Danica

“I think she’s a tough competitor,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “She works really hard at what she does. She has run some really good races. On every occasion she’s outrunning several guys out on the circuit. If she was not able to compete and not able to run minimum speed or finishing in last place every week, I think you might be able to say Kyle has an argument. But she’s out there running competitively, running strong on several accounts.”

Kyle had driven stock cars in Nascar for 13 years when he was 31 years old. He started in equipment far superior to 3/4s of the field in his early years. Now, there’s a lot less difference from first place to 43rd. He never had to learn anything else either. Also, he’s never gone through turn one at Indy flat at 230 miles per hour. She has.

And if he knew what the difference was between a good driver and a great driver, it wouldn’t have made him a great driver, but it might have made him a great owner. He was neither.

    • Misogyny thy name is Kyle.
She consistently has better time than many males so obviously she is a racecare driver.

(no body disses Danica and get away with it – not with House being her greatest fan)

      • You don’t just move from open wheel cars to stock cars and immediately be successful. Besides Tony Stewart, nobody has really done well in Nascar coming from Indycar. Dario Franchitti didn’t do it. Sam Hornish hasn’t done it. Juan Pablo Montoya hasn’t done it. So why should Danica be so much better?

Qualifying just ended at Kentucky. She was faster than 14 other non-racecar drivers, and .17 seconds slower than her boss.

            • Dale and Kyle were born into racing.

Kyle, Is that Danica going around in circles along with ‘the boys’? If she isn’t a race car driver, then why is she there? Sounds like sour grapes from Kyle and makes the stereotype persist.

            • The Nationwide race is tonight, Dycker, and the Cup race is tomorrow night, just so you don’t forget.

            • Thanks House. I knew that. Today we have broken 80 F which for us is hot so we will be out in the sun and warmth for a while. On tape though so I will be keeping track (pun intended) of it. Tomorrow is a dinner out so more taping.

  8. SAN FRANCISCO — A federal appeals court on Friday cleared the way for the state of California to immediately resume issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples after a 4 1/2-year freeze.

  9. No dry heat here. We have torrential rains every evening. I’m living in a steam bath. This is not good for the gardens. I have gullies where I used to have pepper plants.

    • I can’t remember when the weather pattern was northwest to southeast like it has been lately. Yesterday morning was the wettest I’ve ever worked.

      • I’m no stranger to sweat either, but at 9:00AM and 75 degrees I am not supposed to be dripping. I don’t even understand how we can have 100% humidity when it wasn’t even raining.

        • That was how it was here. it should either be rain or zero visibility fog to be that humid. It feels better about 10:30 or 11 because the humidity drops faster than the temp goes up.

I hope you can save some of your crops. I guess the corn was ruined the other day, huh?

          • Not entirely. The flowers have suffered a beat down. The very pregnant gilt’s shelter is now a sea of mud and I fear the amount of straw I gave her may not prevent babies from being pressed into it. She can choose to give birth in a drier area, but they normally like the shade and security of their shed.

    • He’s too busy foaming at the mouth about something that has absolutely no bearing on his life at all. (oh, wait – could he be denying/suppressing his inner gayness? – come out, come out of the closest ScrewyLouie)
