  1. “I am the Zookeeper. Any questions?”

Yes. Are you on meds? Are you in manageable pain or are you in a constant state of Edvard Munch’s The Scream?

I’m concerned about you in a somewhat detached, I’ve-never-met-you, internet sort of way.

    :-/

  2. Oh I miss Izzy and his music. I have that particular song on a CD of my favorites. In The Descendants, this song is played at the scattering of ashes at the end of the movie.. more tears. beautiful man; beautiful music. Brings back memories of my time on Maui.

  3. QOTD:

“I think it was absolutely a mistake for President Obama and Harry Reid to force a government shutdown,” Sen. Ted Cruz said during an interview with ABC’s “This Week.”

    What cajones on this turd.

    • Rats. I was hoping he’d get the shaft down here, then renounce his Amurkkkan citizenship and head for Canada, try his luck there. Or maybe Cuba. Anywhere else would be a blessing for all but where he winds up. What a bozo.

    • That revelation by The News startled Cruz and his parents.

He is so much crazier than ever imagined. Teddy can’t think for himself. His constituents get what they voted for…

    • I saw something about that earlier, but hadn’t seen an update with details until now. Thanks Wayne!
I hope he comes out of this OK.

    • This man had ties to the Bay Area:

Michael Kazanjy, 29, was snowboarding at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort with a group of friends around 12:55 p.m. on Thursday when the group went beyond resort limits to a backcountry area known as “Pucker Face Bowl,” Undersheriff Robert Gilliam said.
The sheriff’s office was notified about a skier-caused avalanche and responded to the area, where resort ski patrol and ski guides were searching for a victim, Gilliam said.
It appears Kazanjy was the first in the group of five skiers and snowboarders to head down the slope and triggered the avalanche.

(he was killed in that ‘accident’)

    • It is our desire to provided a safe, enjoyable and entertaining experience for our patrons and staff.”

Even they are contending guns aren’t the ‘safest’ objects in the universe! (how ironic)

    • Toby Keith? Never heard of him. Followed the link, agree with him on the gun stuff, but still have no idea who or what he might be. Also trying to remember the last time I was in either a restaurant or bar. I think it was in 2008 when I ran the kitchen at a mountain lodge . . . but even that place had no formal bar, though we did serve beer and wine in the dining room. Guns? Never saw one. Glad of that.

  4. Sorry I didn’t think to mention it sooner, but “Columbo” is on MeTV (Memorable Entertainment Television) right now (until 10 PM ET). The episode is “Negative Reaction”, the one with Dick van Dyke. Plenty of time until the great ending. 🙂

  5. Auto racing legend Andy Granatelli dies at 90

Andy Granatelli’s cars nearly won the Indianapolis 500 in 1967 and `68 with turbine engines. He broke through in 1969 with Mario Andretti driving his winning car with a conventional engine. Granatelli kissing Andretti on the cheek in Victory Lane is one of the most famous images in Indy history.

He also sponsored a Nascar racer named Richard Petty. Just sayin’.

  6. BTW…

DALLAS (AP) — Dallas billionaire and heavyweight GOP political donor Harold Simmons, who has given millions of dollars to Republican candidates, including Texas Gov. Rick Perry, has died. He was 82.

  7. This has been on my mind lately.

Her family believes Jahi is still alive and has sought another medical center to take the girl.

Sad on two levels – that the child is brain dead and even sadder – her family is determined that god will perform a miracle and heal the brain to function again.
(the hospital is prohibited from discussing the case, by order of the family’s attorney)

Three physicians have declared the child brain dead. This is difficult, one look at test results will let you know no quality of life can be had (as said the hospital is precluded from discussing).

(I saw me Mum’s MRI: bleed in both hemispheres of the brain. And one of my siblings: massive bleed, no possibility of recovery). Both were removed from life-support and died surrounded by our loving family. We knew that each never wanted to be kept, artificially, alive.
Science and medicine showed us their time had ended on this earth – it was not easy)

Do hope the McMath’s god can give them the strength and peace to make the decision to disconnect Jahi.

      • I did wonder about that, in the beginning.
Did I mention – Jahi is Black! (that may be the reason for non intervention from the ‘Terri Schiavo’ brigade)

[no legitimate hospital a/o rehab place is going to take a brain dead body as it would be a legal nightmare. An ethical physician will not place a tracheal tube or abdominal feeding tube on a declared brain dead body]

We’ll see at 5p (pst) tomorrow.

  8. Chicago ‘By No Means’ the Murder Capital of the U.S., Yale Study Concludes

The mayor and his top cop used a new Ivy League crime study Monday to tout gains in law enforcement and renew calls for more after-school programs and gun control.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Supt. Garry McCarthy cheered a new Yale University study saying Chicago is “on track” this year to have its lowest homicide rate since 1967 and the lowest rate of violent crime since 1972.

So much for the theory by the RWNJs that everything wrong with Chicago is so much worse than anywhere else because Obama came from there.
