The Watering Hole, Monday, August 11th, 2014: Caption Contests!

When I saw the first photo on TP last week, I thought “That just begs for a caption contest.” The photo is of Mississippi State Senator Chris McDaniel, and is credited to McDaniel for Senate. McDaniel allegedly hired a pastor to hold a press conference and state that he (the pastor) had been paid by Thad Cochran’s campaign to get black Democrats to vote in their Republican Senate primary:

Next, from an article by Neil Cavuto on Fox Business, in which Cavuto surprisingly says:

“…cross them once, go off-script with them once, pose one different question or surprise confrontation just once – and they go nuts, and I mean really nuts. It’s actually disturbing.”

Chris Christie and Rand Paul have a lot going for themselves. They’re political originals in almost all respects, save their uncanny lack of self-awareness. It just seems odd for gentlemen who demand respect, they have a devil of a time “showing” respect. Their rage is as consuming as it risks being self-immolating. No slight is too small, no diss too dizzy, no criticism too silly, that each doesn’t get silly, and childish, and boorish in kind. Not kind. Not right. Not big. Not…presidential.”

What is Tucker Carlson dreaming about when he fell asleep on Fox & Fiends Friends?:

Last, here’s a shot of Lindsey Graham (fundraising at a place called River Rat Brewery.) Lindsey, on Fox News yesterday, sounded the alarm about terrorists attacking the U.S. He then swooned, clutching his pearls, saying “Someone fetch me mah smelling salts!”

And just for fun (if you aren’t having any yet), here’s a gif that I ran across while choosing a photo for Lindsey Graham:

  1. Problem is, there’s one caption that suits each and every one of those buggers: Teh Stupid.

Q: I can never keep all the idiots straight, but isn’t McDaniel from the other Miss.? The ‘issippi’ instead of the ‘ouri’?

  2. I’m not going near that one with Putin.

As for Tucker: It’s called Fox Snooze for a reason.

  3. Ted Cruz and Rand Paul.

“I hate it when we have to ride bicycles and go door to door”

  4. Lindsey Graham drinking and fundraising.

“It’s called roofie and it only takes a pinch”

  5. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

“It was one god dammed lane closure on a bridge. Can’t you people get over it?”

  6. There is never any excuse for violence and looting, even when emotions are spiking. And you can’t tell me there weren’t young people near St. Louis last night who didn’t set out to vandalize and rob their neighborhood’s small businesses because it seemed like a good opportunity.

The police aren’t handling this well at all. To me, it seems as though they’re scrambling to find a story that the public will buy, when the fact is, they shot and killed an unarmed kid who was scheduled to start college…today. They shot him as he was running away from them. WTH?

But kids with their pants slung down halfway to their knees, underwear pulled up to their waists and running out of stores with armloads of merchandise aren’t honoring the memory of Michael Brown one bit. They’re going out of their way to perpetuate a stereotype that lumps all black kids together into one big scary entity. They’re convincing some Americans that MIchael Brown was one of them, and from all I’ve read about him, he was nothing like them and was working very hard NOT to be them.

  7. Has anyone else been seeing this symbol?

Apparently, it’s a symbol of “Christian genocide” in Iraq.

It’s interesting to me that those “Christians” who are using this symbol as their avatar on FB, are the same people who don’t give one flying fuck about the non-Christians who’ve been slaughtered in Iraq for years and years and years. *spit*

    • This is the first I’ve seen or read about that symbol.
Some xtian sects only care about themselves and be damned anyone else.
(the missionaries all over the world attempt to ‘convert’ indigenous people to xtianity asking them to forsake their own ‘religions’ or they’ll go to an imaginary ‘hell’)

      • O Captain! My Captain! our fearful trip is done;
        The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:
But O heart! heart! heart! O the bleeding drops of red,Where on the deck my Captain lies, fallen cold and dead.

  9. So. How stupid can the GOP get? How stupid do you want?

Keystone XL’s Climate Impact Could Be Four Times Greater Than State Department Claimed

If the controversial northern leg of the Keystone XL pipeline is approved and built, the resulting amount of carbon emitted into earth’s atmosphere could be up to four times greater than the U.S. State Department estimated, a new scientific paper shows.

Researchers Peter Erickson and Michael Lazarus of the Stockholm Environmental Institute say the State Department’s assessment of the pipeline’s potential carbon emissions failed to consider whether consumer demand for Canadian tar sands oil — the type that would be transported in Keystone XL — would increase worldwide if the pipeline is built. If it is built, it could cause a rush of new Canadian tar sands crude oil to come on to the global market. If that happens, global prices of oil will decrease, and demand for it will increase. If demand increases, more oil will be burned, causing increased carbon emissions.

Depending on how much the pipeline increases oil production, its climate impact could amount to anywhere from zero to 110 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year, the study showed. That’s a margin that’s four times wider than what the State Department forecasted — an emissions range of 1 million and 27 million tons of carbon dioxide per year.

We are SO LUCKY! that man-caused climate change is a hoax, because:

Majority leader previews House Sept. agenda

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has told his members to expect votes on bills to highlight Senate gridlock when they return from the August recess.
    […]
McCarthy said the House will also vote on a consolidated package of bills it has already passed to boost domestic energy. Those measures include expediting approval of the Keystone XL pipeline and opening federal lands for energy production. […]

  10. Depression. Why? Cure? It may be the biggest health issue of our time and it does not get the publicity that other diseases get (think funding). High profile people like Robin and Phillip suffered from it. Others end up murdering because of it. It is time for something. I wish I knew what…..

    • They lost hope, and couldn’t see themselves in the world anymore.

Thankfully, they didn’t take anyone with them.

    • Maybe it would help some if people weren’t so afraid to talk about mental illness, their own or that of others. If you have cancer, no one treats you as though you should just snap out of it.

  11. Another great artist has voluntarily slipped this mortal coil. I guess there pretty much had to be a very dark flip side to Mr. Williams’ manic persona. RIP.
