The Watering Hole, Saturday, October 4, 2014: This Week in Paranoia: The Humbling Gay Ebola Gun Grab Anarchy

Courtesy of the good people at Right Wing Watch, we learn what’s got the right wing’s knickers in a twist. From soldiers being sent to West Africa to deliberately contract Ebola (a US Congressman actually said this) to gays trying to recruit your sons (I don’t hear them expressing any concern about your daughters, just your sons) to Obama coming for your guns (again, and for discredited reasons, again) to anarchy over teaching actual American History (because we don’t want to whitesplain it) to America being humbled because of the devastation Ebola will cause (undoubtedly after all those US Soldiers come back with it), the right wing in this country is becoming more and more unhinged from reality. I’d like to know what they’d say about Ebola if they actually understood how it’s transmitted from person to person. I’d also like to know what they’d say if they understood any of the other things they went haywire over lately. BTW, here’s a simple way to tell if you have Ebola: Have you been in contact with any kind of bodily fluid from a person infected with Ebola and showing symptoms? If the answer is “No,” then you do not have Ebola. It’s just that simple.

Professional Misanthrope Michael “Savage” Weiner (“Savage” is his phony name; his real last name is Weiner) actually believes that President Obama is sending 3,000 troops to West Africa in the hopes that at least one of them will contract Ebola, bring it back to the US, and infect the entire country. I am not making that up. And he must have convinced Rep Louie Gohmert (Orc, Middle Earth) who thinks this is part of the president’s problem with political correctness. I am not making that up, either. And then Ebola will turn everyone gay. Okay, I made that last one up. But I’m not the only one making things up about teh gay.

Paul Cameron, known for making shit up about gay people, was a guest of “Pray In Jesus Name” host Gordon Klingenschmitt (no friend to the either the LGBT or Reality communities), and he made the extraordinary (i.e., totally bullshit false) claim that “Homosexuals, from the get-go, as long as we have recorded history, have used the molestation of boys as a way to recruit to homosexuality.” He then goes on to spew, what I have no doubt are, made-up statistics (his leitmotif, which means, literally, “light more teeth”) to support his pre-conceived bigoted notions about gay people. “So this is a tremendous recruitment tool,” he said. “If a gay can get to your son first, the chances are about 50-50, as near as we can tell, that your son is going to be a practicing homosexual to some degree.” He feels it’s very important that your sons avoid having a “homosexual experience.” Ironically, Cameron was forced to perform oral sex on a man when he was four years old (he says.) Does that mean there’s a 50% chance that Paul Cameron is gay? Some people would say Yes.

Apparently out of any new reasons why Obama wants us all dead, Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy and former (thankfully) Judge Andrew Napolitano resurrected the discredited claim that the United Nations is coming for your guns. Napolitano also tried to vomit out the lie that more guns makes us more safe. Actual studies have proven this wrong. It’s thinking like this that really puts our nation in danger. Obama’s choice to be Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy, believes that gun violence is a serious health issue. The NRA disagrees, of course, so his nomination is being held up. So thanks to the same party that thinks our nation is in great peril from Ebola, we have no Surgeon General to guide the nation through this health crisis (which isn’t a crisis yet at all, and likely won’t be.) Oh, and because Obama is taking away our guns, more of us are going to be beheaded. In this country. Because it happened once.

And one can’t help but think beheadings would be on the rise if we were in a state of anarchy, which right-wing darling and presidential I-think-I-wannabe Ben Carson believes is the direction this country is headed. And because of it, he won’t get to run for president because Obama will cancel the 2016 elections. He’s also joining the chorus of ill-minded people denouncing the new Advanced Placement US History curriculum, because it isn’t patriotic enough. Growing up, I wasn’t taught the truth about American history. The times when our nation did not live up to its ideals, when it didn’t seem to know right from wrong, they were glossed over. It wasn’t until I got older that I learned about things like the Tuskegee Airman experiments, the genocidal treatment of the Native Peoples living here before white Europeans showed up and claimed the land for themselves, and the numerous times our government deliberately overthrew democratically elected ones elsewhere in order to prop up a ruthless dictator who would grant US corporations special favors. I already knew Slavery was bad. But the right wing would prefer that our students be taught only the good things about America, not the bad things that eventually made it possible to do some of the good things we did.

Yet Glenn Beck thinks that because of all the bad things we’ve been doing, and continue to do, our country is headed for a “massive humbling.” That we are going to be brought down. And the beginning of that “massive humbling” may already have happened. With one case of Ebola.

This is our daily open thread. Finally. Feel free to discuss Ebola, gay recruitment, anarchy, guns, late posts, or anything else you wish to discuss.

  1. From your link on this Cameron creep:
“Marital sex tends toward the boring end. Generally, it doesn’t deliver the kind of sheer sexual pleasure that homosexual sex does. If you isolate sexuality as something solely for one’s own personal amusement, if all you want is the most satisfying orgasm you can get, then homosexuality seems too powerful to resist.”
    — Interview with Rolling Stone, 1999
    I say there’s a > 50% chance he’s gay.

  2. When I see/read/hear the MASSIVE evidences that the current American right wing (by any name, be it Tea Party, GOP, Theocrat, Fox News . . . ) is philosophically based upon and motivated by nothing other than the irrational fear and hatred of all who do not see the world their way (including especially everyone of other-than-white skin), I’m reminded of the following “lecture”, in effect, concerning the consequences of such irrationality.

“. . . When you teach a man to hate and fear his brother, when you teach that he is a lesser man because of his color or his beliefs or the policies that he pursues, when you teach that those who differ from you threaten your freedom or your job or your home, or your family, then you also learn to confront others not as fellow citizens but as enemies, to be met not with cooperation but with conquest; to be subjugated and to be mastered.

“We learn, at the last, to look at our brothers as aliens, alien men with whom we share a city, but not a community; men bound to us in common dwelling, but not in a common effort. We learn to share only a common fear, only a common desire to retreat from each other, only a common impulse to meet disagreement with force. For all this, there are no final answers.

“Yet we know what we must do. It is to achieve true justice among our fellow citizens. The question is not what programs we should seek to enact. The question is whether we can find in our own midst and in our own hearts that leadership of humane purpose that will recognize the terrible truths of our existence.

“We must admit the vanity of our false distinctions among men and learn to find our own advancement in the search for the advancement of others. We must admit in ourselves that our own children’s future cannot be built on the misfortunes of others. We must recognize that this short life can neither be ennobled or enriched by hatred or revenge. . . .”

No matter their implicit appropriateness, those words are NOT of current construction. They are, in reality, excerpted from a speech given on April 4, 1968 (in memory of the just-assassinated Martin Luther King, Jr.) by Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy — whose own assassination just two months later essentially defined the termination of America’s potential for political sanity and signaled instead the beginnings of her descent into the maelstrom of radical right wing tyranny . . . which today, sadly, defines a major portion of that which we have become.

    See above post.

    • I actually got hated this morning at farmers’ market by a woman who took exception to one of my bumper stickers supporting a democratic candidate. Her husband looked embarassed, and somewhat sad that she wouldn’t let him buy meat.

      • Again, I made the mistake of mentioning to a cattle rancher that I used to be a firefighter for the Forest Service… feel the hate…

        • The intense hate and fear that’s so widespread these days is the height of irrationality, and I have to wonder where the hell it comes from. I’m almost ready to suggest it’s the result of a major cerebral defect, or something close to that. Maybe it’s the front end of retardation (necessary in those who vote Republican).

          • Either the front end of retardation, or to many generations at the back end of dumb animals…
This (5th generation) rancher’s big beef was having “all his ranch taken away” by the gub’mint… in reality his family still had all their original property, what was “taken away” was the grazing rights, mainly because it had been grossly overgrazed over the generations, first by sheep which totally ruined the landscape. Also they conveniently forget about all the First Peoples who were driven out and or slaughtered before it was “their land”. I reminded him of this… that’s when I decided I had better leave before it got dark…

          • All too many humans kill what they hate, hate what they fear, and fear what they don’t understand. Whether the root cause is nature, nurture, or a combination of both; there are far too many people in this world who don’t seem to understand anything about anything.

        • Bet he’d like you just fine if his house was in the path of a wildfire.

  3. The simple fact of having a two term president who is not entirely Caucasian and that he’s done nothing that will allow them to truthfully say “see what happens if you elect a black guy” has driven the rightwhiners clean past their last shreds of reason. If the GOP regains the Senate they WILL try to Impeach President Obama and, even if they don’t regain the Senate, I see little sign that they will ever step back from the abyss of insanity. If Hillary is our next president they will simply substitute misogyny for racism and if a white male Democrat is elected they will just use some other excuse with “senility” being a strong contender if it’s Biden and, if they can’t find anything better, the “godless commie” attack for anyone else. In no case will the GOP ever allow the government to actually function if there’s a Democrat in the White House.

    • “In no case will the GOP ever allow the government to actually function if there’s a Democrat in the White House.”

On the other hand, if a Republican is in the White House, Democrats will go along with enacting whatever the president wants. Thus the rich get more tax cuts, which later cannot be undone. Oligarchy in action.

      • That is the emerging pattern. Democrats work with Republican presidents for the good of the country and Republicans work to thwart Democratic Presidents for the good of their party.

        • Problem is, very few if any Republican ‘projects’ are good for the country. They’re only good for a very small percentage of people, people who also don’t give a damn about anyone other than themselves. The country as a whole suffers in result.

  4. Ah, yes, the Ebola Gay. That was the name of the bomber in WWII that dropped the Atom Bomb on Hitler in Hiroshima but the radioactive cloud drifted and killed 5 million jews so we took Palistine away from the Arabs and gave it to Israel so we can have a friend in the land of milk and honey to protect the bees. And that’s why only Gays get Ebola.

  5. The trash has been taken out: The evil Baby Doc has died. Unfortunately not in prison.

Former Haitian dictator Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier dies of heart attack at age 63

…The younger Duvalier came to power when he was just 19 years old, and for a decade-and-a-half ruled as Haiti’s self-proclaimed “president for life.”

Like his father, Baby Doc allowed little room for dissent, barring opposition, clamping down on dissidents, rubber-stamping his own laws and pocketing government revenue.

And like his father, he made liberal use of the dreaded Tonton Macoutes, a secret police force loyal to the Duvalier family.

The notorious sunglass-wearing Macoutes terrorized Haitians, arresting and torturing untold numbers of political opponents, thousands of whom vanished without ever being accounted for.

  6. Man of the day: Jojo Kemp of the Kentucky Wildcats. Patting himself on the helmet, requesting he be substituted for, the Kentucky coaches said “one more time”. Kemp takes the snap in the ‘wildcat’ formation, and runs from the 49 to the 5 yard line, then can’t get his breath to get up. They drag him off, Kentucky runs one play, then Kemp is back in the ‘wildcat’, and scores. Fuckin’ A!

    • On 2nd down after the kickoff, the South Carolina quarterback’s pass is deflected and intercepted for a Kentucky TD! Ky 45- SC 38. 2:29 to play!

      • The PA is playing ‘Don’t Stop Believing’, at Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington. 😀

        • (hmm wasn’t that the fascist, commie, stalinist, muslim President theme song?)

The SF Giants vs Nationals game is now in the 17th inning!
          (¡Viva, Los Gigantes!)

          • Clinton celebrated to Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow, by Fleetwood Mac. I remember, because I couldn’t sleep that night.

      • Hamilton wins rain-affected race in Japan

It had been Rosberg who led in the early stages, although the first attempt to start the race behind the safety car had to be aborted because of the conditions after only two laps. It was restarted after a 25-minute delay, and the safety car stayed out until lap nine. Once under normal conditions, the race quickly developed into the anticipated duel between Rosberg and Hamilton.

They do delay for heavy rain, because the cars create so much spray behind them, but the teams are furnished both full-wet tires and intermediate tread tires, as well as the slick tires. They have to be able to race in any weather condition. Starting the race behind the safety car allows the cars to reduce the standing water on the racing line before going green.
