So it was a good trip, with beautiful sunny days and cold nights, visits with friends and family, and lower gas prices than Oregon.  It’s the little things that count.  🙂

This is our daily open thread — Did you turn your clock back or forward?

  1. I haven’t been up that way since the mid-70’s, so it’s nice to see there’s still a ‘little bit’ of open space left. Reminds me of what Barry Goldwater once said about rural Arizona — it went something like “it’s a land where you can see for three days” since that’s how long it would take your horse to get you there.

Thanks too for not showing even a single wingnut! That can be a real chore in some places! 🙂

    • Still beautiful country, but the fuckwittery and dooshbaggery has increased.

I had to cut a truck out of the canoe sculpture photo, cuz I couldn’t be sure a wingnut wasn’t driving. 😉

  2. “Some sort of duck in a pond”

Yeah, I chased one of those out my pool about 30 minutes ago.

    • On this morning’s MTP we learned:

“Lindsey Graham Says He Has Never Sent An Email”

While I certainly could believe that, I’m guessing ol’ Butters is parsing his words there.

  3. Florida Officials Ban The Term ‘Climate Change’ In Official Communications

Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection is tasked with protecting the state’s “air, water and land.” But there’s one environmental threat you won’t hear DEP officials talking about.

Officials at Florida’s DEP have banned the words “climate change” and “global warming” from all official communications, including reports and emails, according to an investigation published Sunday by the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting (FCIR).

I guess that when Miami is under water due to melted polar ice, Florida will have something else to blame. Wonder who or what they’ll pick? Obama? Iran?

    • All they hear is “blah blah blah”. All we will hear is “blub blub blub”.

    • Next on the list: Agricultural runoff causing algae blooms and turtle grass deserts to be renamed “nutrient redistribution through marine plant life elimination”.
ATV’s will be renamed “Wilderness access devices or “wads”

  4. Remember this pic of Hillary? Trey Gowdy claims we don’t have any e-mails of hers from the day this pic was taken. It never occurs to him she was on Twitter?

  5. Sprint may sponsor Nascar, but I will never, ever, never use their cell phone system. Because…narwhals. Some things are just permanent deal breakers.

        • During the middle-ages, vile humans would capture and saw off the tooth/sword, present it to royalty as proof of unicorns existence.
          Damn those humans!

        • When I play Text Twist, I have to suffer through the ads preceding the game (’cause I’m not going to pay to play), and usually the same ad comes up after one has finished several puzzles. The Sprint ad came up the other night, and after seeing it the first time, I made sure to remember to look away when it came back on. It looks creepy – is there music to it, and, if so, does it make it better? I refuse to turn the sound on! 🙂

          • At the 9 second mark all hell breaks loose. Do not turn on the sound.

  6. Breaking Gnus: This morning Bill O’Reilly inadvertently told the truth about his past. He quickly recanted and promised it would never happen again.

  7. Oh great. The lead subject for the Sunday “news” shows was Hillary’s emails. Funny. There seemed to be no mention of the fact that she has stated her intent to hand them all over to anyone with the clearance to read them. There was no mention of the millions of emails that were scrubbed by various members of the Bush Administration. And there certainly wasn’t any mention of the fact that said Administration flat-out defied innumerable subpenas related to said emails.

    • It’s a really good way to ignore Obama’s speech in Selma. In fact, it’s a good way to ignore all that equality shit, all those mentions of today’s voter suppression laws, all that talk about killin’ ni99er kids when it don’t make no nevermind. I mean, if we gonna BE impotent we gotta ACT impotent. Something like that.

I really do weep for this country, what it’s become — and worse, where it’s headed.

    • I’ve never seen the movie or the teevee show. I was a very sensitive child, and now that I’m totally over that weirdness, I still don’t want to watch them. 😀

      • Sounds like me where Harry Potter is concerned.

According to the wiki entry, the one I saw was the fifth of the series. It’s set in Scotland, so there are kilts and accents.
